Second 10 Mile Run In The Dark For Some Bling

Medal hungry fool that I am these days, I came upon a 2 week old post by SlowLoris letting everyone know that there were still spaces left for the Virtually Salisbury 10....a 10 mile race gone virtual this year. Entry fee just £7.50, with a medal a tee shirt up for grabs.

Followed the link and signed up, only medium tee shirts left but hey ho. Having done this I had a 10 mile run hanging over me, which had to be completed before 31.12.20. Woke up early this morning as I’d intended on going out for a run.....but then had a crazy idea.....why not do the 10 mile one, get it done 🤔.

So 5am I headed out in the pitch dark, weather fine and feeling quite mild, chose the same route as my previous 10 miler, but hadn’t realised how badly lit it was, with three quarters of it having no street lamps 😬. Fortunately I had my chest torch on, which I’ve yet to charge since buying it, so was praying it didn’t let me down. Well, luckily for me it didn’t and the run itself although tougher than before went quite well. The last mile was a slog, but I eventually reached the magic 10 miles 😁

Headed home, shower, porridge and banana then off to work.....thankfully I’m paid from the neck up, although they didn’t get their monies worth today 😴😂.

Feeling pleased I got out there and got it done, but maybe stick to doing the next one on a weekend.

Happy Running Everyone! And a Merry Christmas !

Another good run there CP! 😀🙌🏻Must be a great feeling achieving all that before work too!!!

I love early mornings, though wouldn’t feel confident running that early as I run alone.

Well done! 👏🏻

Thanks Indielass00, 😁 I can understand that, it was pretty dark that time of the morning, I didn’t realise it would be so poorly lit, having normally run there later in the day.....I must admit I looked over my shoulder from time to time. 👀

Good to know I’m not the only one to look over my shoulder! 😀That was when I was running in the dark pre tea time. Though I have sometimes done it in the morning in daylight too when it’s just me and I see someone.

That is the one downside of my running experience is I feel restricted to where and when I run. Simply because I feel nervous of going somewhere too quiet (in the daylight) as it makes me feel vulnerable.

Sorry that reply was way longer than I expected! 😂

You are obsessed! Obviously you have been speaking to Tinytears60 too much!

Getting up and going out in the pitch black like that you must want that bling bad!

But seriously what a cracking run.

I'm off work for 2 weeks now. Had a lie in, late breakfast and a relaxed no pressure 6.28km trot out at lunchtime

CouchphoenixGraduate10 in reply to Birdlady64

Thanks Birdlady64, your right Tinytears60 is a bad influence 😂 Your day sounds good, that’ll be me next time, certainly won’t be doing another 10 miler on a work day, that was definitely a one off.

Fab run!

But OMG...your 10 mile pace is around my “quick” 20 minute run pace which leaves me knackered!

😂😂😂

Couchphoenix profile image
CouchphoenixGraduate10 in reply to LottieMW

Thanks LMW, there’s lot quicker than me on this forum, it was a lot harder than the last one, but pleased I did it. Pace wasn’t bad for that distance, slower than last one though.

...but you did it!

My 20 minute run yesterday was horrible, back on my Lockdown route and it ended up tipping down with rain 🤬💦...but I done it, and now feel pretty chuffed.

Now set up for my 60 minutes on Xmas day 🥰

Couchphoenix profile image
CouchphoenixGraduate10 in reply to LottieMW

Sorry to hear that, but at least you did it, and no matter how hard it is at the time you always feel better for having made the effort. I’m sure your 60 minutes on Xmas day will be much better 👍🏃‍♀️

There’s a better weather forecast to start with 😂

...just got to find the 2nd part of a route...about 2km or 20 minutes worth 🙄...

I know what you mean, sometimes you run out of road or encounter a huge hill 😂

LottieMW profile image
LottieMWAmbassador in reply to Couchphoenix

I’ve been googling...elevations of 300ft anyone?

😬😫😱

😮😳......I’ll get back to you on that one !

Thank You Catho78 😊 a well earned rest is on the cards. I’m still doing Race at Your Pace, which I’ve set myself a 50 mile target for December, I’m currently on 42.44, so I’ll finish that off after Christmas 👍🏃‍♂️Merry Christmas to you too 🥂

Great run CP 😁👍 and bling reward! Bargain!

CouchphoenixGraduate10 in reply to Littleoyellow

Can’t beat a bit of bargain bling on the festive season Littleoyellow, although it was a hard earned one, a 10k instead of a 10 mile would have been kinder on the old legs 👍 Merry Christmas 🎄

I'm with you there- did my first 10 miler last week and it's a long way - be kind to your legs for a few days and have a good Christmas yourself 🎅🎄

Since it wasn’t too cold or wet this morning I ran the 10 miles first thing. I completed it in 1 hour 29 mins but that included falling into a large puddle. My first fall whilst running! Thankfully nothing hurt except my pride.

Wow 😯 Brilliant time, well done 👏🏻👏🏻pity about the tumble, I had my first one a few months back, before I bought a chest torch. Don’t forget to submit your evidence for your medal and tee shirt, both very well deserved .....Merry Christmas 🎄

That's proper running craziness doing a 10 miler before work...brilliant, well done 👏🎉

Make sure to let Linda know so she can add your distance onto the group's 2020k (or miles if we're keen) aim by the end of the year 👍

I totally agree, I must have been mad, I was shattered in work, but pleased I did it though. 👍🏃‍♂️

Thank you Sandraj39 😊 I must have been mad, but it was an achievement and a nice little medal too 👍 Tee shirt will be a bit tight though as they only had mediums left 😂
