A Whole Run....Food For Thought ๐Ÿค”

Woke up just before my alarm this morning, customary banana and drink consumed then out at 6am, surprised to find it was quite mild out there but it was still dark outside. I invested in a chest torch recently and it was a God send today, so easy to clip on and use too.

I decided to try the Nike Run Club โ€˜A Whole Runโ€™ a 45 minute run with Coach Bennett in conversation with Andy Puddicombe co founder of something called Headspace. So with my playlist started, chest torch on off I set, looking like Iron Man....well from a distance anyway ๐Ÿ˜‚

I found it a bit hard going today to be honest I had the dreaded lead legs syndrome but stuck with it and with my breathing into a steady rhythm plodded on. Andy had some interesting ways of putting things into perspective a poor run being like a cloudy sky all seems gloomy now but the sky will soon be blue again and so on. He also believes every run shouldnโ€™t be an attempt to achieve a personal best, which I must be honest is a trap I began to fall into. Anyway tough though it was I enjoyed it and was pleased with myself for sticking with it and not stopping.

45 minutes up I pressed Resume Workout and managed to complete a hard earned 9k, arrived home and our puppy let me know he was ready for his walk, so straight back out again with him which got me to 10k, which made me feel good and set me up for the rest of the day. ๐Ÿ˜

Sounds like a good run Brought to up to 10k with the dog walk ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜

I have the NRC app but not yet used it , I must check it out as I am familiar with Andy ! I have used his headspace meditations many times ๐Ÿ˜

I think youโ€™ll enjoy it Instructor57, especially as youโ€™ve used his headspace meditations before, there are some good runs on that app Iโ€™ve done quite a few now and enjoyed them๐Ÿ‘

I'll check it out ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘

Sounds great Couchp, thanks for sharing, I think I might try that too as I could do with some company on my runs ๐Ÿค—

Itโ€™s good jorgeRuns, thereโ€™s loads to choose from and you can listen to your own playlist too, just like C25k ๐Ÿ‘

Well done on a great run, even if you were not feeling it. 9 K is not to me sniffed at, very inspirational, thanks for posting ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿป

Thank you Catho78, ๐Ÿ˜Š Iโ€™m at a stage where I know not all runs are going to be easy, but they still make me feel good when I complete them ๐Ÿ‘

Thatโ€™s a great outlook. I think running is very much like life, theyโ€™ll be good days and bad, you learn from them and move on. Sorry if too deep lol. One of my consolidation runs last week I thought letโ€™s up the pace and I quickly felt near to burn out and had to slow to recovery run pace. My average pace was the same as usual and I did not enjoy the run. When I went out next I thought go with flow, see how you feel, enjoy the run and I got my first 5K. Take each run as it comes, we show up, listen to our bodies, and enjoy what our bodies can do (still amazed lol). Happy running

CouchphoenixGraduate10 in reply to Catho78

Happy Running to you too Catho78, ๐Ÿ˜ŠI think weโ€™re all still learning with each and every run, but what a life changing journey it is....people look at me like Iโ€™m nuts when I say Iโ€™m going out at 6am for a run, but I love it and the feeling I get afterwards canโ€™t be beaten. Well done on getting your first 5k thatโ€™s a great achievement ๐Ÿ‘

Thanks and I agree you canโ€™t beat the post run feeling

Absolutely this ๐Ÿ‘Œ ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Running mirrors so much about life.

Sounds like a fab run.... country cabbage did a run with him the other day... I wonder was it this one?... it sounded very relaxing ...

9k ... ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ you do it without even thinking now Mister! Even when it feels tough you have coping strategies! Legend! ๐Ÿ‘Œ

CouchphoenixGraduate10 in reply to Tinytears60

Thanks Jane, I think we all learn our own coping strategies on this running journey and weโ€™re continually learning all the time. Itโ€™s great fun though, and this forum is an amazing place to share all our experiences and meet great people like you ๐Ÿ˜

Oh hey Jane, how lovely to see you!! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ (my first foray into Bridge 2 10K!)

Itโ€™s the same coaches but a different session as mine was a 30min one. Same idea though, lots of inspiring content, questions and relaxing techniques pinged at you ๐Ÿฅฐ

I recognised the name Andy Puddicombe and the NRC app has already been recommended as a great app to try! He sounds tempting so Iโ€™m gonna have to give him a go ๐Ÿ‘Œ

Ps welcome to B210k... ๐Ÿค— ๐Ÿ’•

I donโ€™t post too often on here but I did get my 10k snd 1 hour badge from here ๐Ÿ‘Œ

Iโ€™ve done that one, itโ€™s good but he has a very strong accent so you have to listen carefully to what heโ€™s saying....I did put a post on here about that one....have a look ๐Ÿ‘€

Super. Uplifting running story Couchy!! Well done lad, as they say round 'ere ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

Seriously, I'm a bit scared of going out in the dark but it's great starting the day off well.

I imagine I that as I get ready in my running gear that I become some kind of super hero... so I get the Iron Man feeling you speak of!!

Stay safe though buddy ๐Ÿ˜Š

CouchphoenixGraduate10 in reply to Plattszo

Zo I think my reply to you, went into GTFCโ€™s message to me.

Well done on that run because with heavy legs you still got to where you wanted to go ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

I like Headspace and I really like an app called 'Smiling Mind' which is one of the best I've found. If you like podcasts while running, there is a superb range of them called 'Don't Tell Me The Score' from BBC iplayer. There are a multitude of brilliant interviews in there all focused around positivity and resilience and tips to help us with our outlook.

Couchphoenix profile image
CouchphoenixGraduate10 in reply to

Thanks GTFC, it was a tough one, but still felt pleased Iโ€™d done it.

Smiling Mind sounds interesting....Iโ€™ll definitely check that one out, Iโ€™ve never listened to a podcast when out running, sounds a nice change and sometimes hearing another personโ€™s perspective on things changes yours too. Thanks for that ๐Ÿ‘

Couchphoenix profile image
CouchphoenixGraduate10

Cheers Plattszo, I know what you mean, itโ€™s funny how different you feel when youโ€™ve put your running gear on, the right gear makes all the difference. The chest light is a great piece of kit though, useful in poorly lit parts. Put one on your Christmas list ๐Ÿ‘

Talking of superheroes Iโ€™ve heard there are two new superheroes where you are, they both dress in red......true identities unknown ๐Ÿค” ๐Ÿ˜‚

Thank you ever so much for them, so kind of you and Jane to think of me. I am absolutely cock-a-hoop!! (Where do these sayings come from?!) xx

๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ cock a hoop - you kill me Plattszo

But I agree with you!

When this virus rubbish hands disappeared maybe we could get a weekend away and have a trio run ( tho Couchphoenix would have to considerably slow down for me!)

Iโ€™m thinking of a name for us all - the red running gear... all I could think of was 3 musketeers! ( predictable and a bit boring!)

Geoff you gotta out your photo up in your jacket... and Zo is changing hers to same!

Nice running. Andy is correct, mentally pushing for PB every run isnโ€™t going to end well as we plateau our fitness, and of course eventually we have set our all time PB and itโ€™s all downhill from there! Physically itโ€™s not good either as pushing hard doesnโ€™t help our fitness and stops (or even reduces) muscle conditioning.

Couchphoenix profile image
CouchphoenixGraduate10 in reply to UnfitNoMore

Thank You ๐Ÿ˜Š I totally agree with you UnfitNoMore, itโ€™s all part of the learning process and pushing yourself too hard every time you go out, canโ€™t be good for you.

There have been several occasions, CP that I have tapped to like your post but it wouldnโ€™t register as I wasnโ€™t part of the Bridge 2 10K forum. Doh ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ

I had been resisting joining as I didnโ€™t want all the chat to distract me from C25K graduation but today I take great delight in hitting LIKE ๐Ÿ˜„

I absolutely love Headspace so was made up to discover Andy on NRC. Heโ€™s spurring me on during consolidation. I canโ€™t get over such quality content being free ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

Congrats on a 10K day. Pups make everything better โ˜บ๏ธ

Couchphoenix profile image
CouchphoenixGraduate10 in reply to acountrycabbage

Thank You acountrycabbage I really appreciate that ๐Ÿ˜Š itโ€™s a good run that one, very thought provoking, there are a lot of good runs on that app and as you say itโ€™s great theyโ€™re free. I tried running a little with our pup when we were out walking, but heโ€™s a bit young yet, Iโ€™m sure he will in the future though as heโ€™s got boundless energy.

That sounds like a great run. Itโ€™s helpful to hear how you got through those difficult minutes at the beginning, so Thankyou! Iโ€™ve done the โ€œa whole runโ€ and enjoyed it too. Andy Puddicombeโ€™s words of wisdom and relaxed way of speaking help. ๐Ÿ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ

I think you would, itโ€™s something different to listen too. Iโ€™ve seen the 5k head starts but Iโ€™ve yet to try those. The 6k and 10k runs on there are good ๐Ÿ‘
