Hello you lovely runners with loads of quests going on!!!

I have been SOOOOOOO impressed at you all keeping going with your quests...and striving to get in what you can, I must say you have all definitely been 'on it' this month...and you've kept me 'on it' too...

This is, like I've said before, one of my favourite months for running...this mornings run was absolutely beautiful...is strangely warm today too so there was no doubt in my mind that I would be taking advantage of Mr Sun while his hat's on!!! Can you guess from the picture what happened this morning?? Yes, there I was running along, enjoying the scenery, watching the swans, listening to Clannad (which I have to say went with the scenery very well and kept me at a very doable pace) thinking I was watching my step...but in places the leaves have floated down from their branches like paper aeroplanes, gathered together and made dens for dog poo...there they are, waiting....waiting for the next piece of footwear to slide through them and cake the bottom of said shoe...in this case, my shoe...I was not a happy bunny...Why oh why don't people clean up after their dog???? Anyway, after a swish in a puddle and a sit on the 'victory steps' with a handful of leaves (and the odd gip) I was off again...but when I saw this pic I couldn't resist attaching it to this weeks post...Just be careful out there...its lurking dog poo season...

Again I am sorry for the late post for this week but as some of you know I had a driving test yesterday as part of my driving instructor training and even though I had Miss Iron knickers at the side of me I PASSED!!!!!!!! I was so nervous I had white knuckles!!! Turns out Miss Iron Knickers fails people for fun so I must've done something right!!! It must've been the conversation we had about being in brass bands, she likes them and when I told her I play the trombone, saxophone and various other instruments, I think she was impressed!! So thank you to you all for wishing me good luck...your wishes were in my pocket the whole time! Onto part 3 now and then, final test...then I can teach...fingers crossed it happens before we end up going into what seems like an inevitable total lockdown.

So, enough about me...I want to hear about you...and your quest...how's it going? Still on track?? I've managed my 3 runs a week goal so far...and might even squeeze 4 in this week as I feel like I've been sat on my backside practising in the car for far too long....

Share you week of adventures with us...and here's to another week of being 'On it'

Happy running my lovely Questers

MC xx

So you want to be a driving instructor now, Bev?

Clannad eh? I saw them live a few years back....ok, ok, it was back in the ancient mists of time now.

Glad to report that after a long few weeks of not running, I am back to doing one 10k a week and at least one other shorter run. Amazing how quickly the fitness level drops when not running. My first attempt at a 5k a few weeks back required a walk break at 4k!

Hi MikeJones68 ...yes, you were conspicuous by your absence on Strava...that’s why I messaged you, just checking in you know 😉

Yes, I sold my ‘bus’ (Renault espace) in Feb and the boom, lockdown...so I was dying to get started...I’ve been at home for 18 years...well you know with the occasional trip to the supermarket, school run and run...tied to the vacuum and duster so it’s time I contributed to society!!! I’m passionate about driving and thought I’d give it a go...so far so good 😊

I’m glad you’re back Mike, I missed you 😉

Miss Iron Knickers; I love it!!😂😂😂. She never stood a chance!

After months of getting back to fitness and dropping down to my fighting weight, I have no ambition this month beyond staying in one piece, completing the Vitality 10000 on Sunday and steadily building upon last weeks 10 miler. Sounds a bit boring I know.

There is a demon on my shoulder tempting me to go for a 10k Pb on Sunday....but I probably shouldn’t. Mustn’t get carried away!!

Well October started out ok managed to keep running 3x per week and did manage a few 4 k and 5 k runs but then on Sunday I fell and now have a chipped bone in my wrist so no more runs this October for me ☹️☹️☹️

Oh nooooo..that’s bad news, I’m not liking to hear?!! Did you fall while running?? I hope it heals quickly for you, I bet that’s painful?

Not much of October left though so I’m sure you’ll be joining the November quest xx healing hugs for you Scruff55 ☹️

This last week has gone to plan.

I'm slowly building back up, but being extra careful with the ankles. The trail part of yesterday's run was probably a bit too much for them, so I won't be doing too much of that in the coming weeks.

My watch likes the regime I'm doing and now has me at a fitness age that is lower than the one I finished C25K with. I'm re-doing C25K now, but adding a short period of faster running to each running interval, with the rest of the running at what I hope is a much slower pace (but usually isn't).

Some good days, and some which felt yuk at the time but were still good.

Hoping to re-graduate, stronger, around the middle of November.

PS. My driving test examiner was known to be a stickler, and also to be a non-driver. (I passed second attempt.)

Hi Mummycav

Well done on passing your test. Good luck with the rest of your training.

I've not managed to run since last Wednesday. I had planned a 5k on Saturday but I woke up with sciatica, I think I slept in a funny position as I didn't have it the day before. It is much better now but I'm being careful this week as I really don't need sciatica at the minute. Past experience means back pain after sciatica and I don't want to go back there. I have an old nursing injury which plays up occasionally. I have an appointment to be straightened up by my chiropractor in a couple of weeks.

I'm due to run the Vitality 10k on Saturday so am taking a few days rest in preparation. At least I have a week to complete this if needs must.

LEJOG is progressing nicely. I have been managing my walks and have now got to 320 miles.

Yoga is continuing once a week, but again I am taking it steady.

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to EThomas

Aw thank you EThomas ...I’m so sorry to hear about your sciatica, I’ve always thought the the word sounds so painful...and your back it literally the middle of your body so it must be so hindering? Take care..& yes, be sensible, listen to your body ❤️

Awesome! Well done you. I did two HM's last week and am still enjoying regular running 😃

Hahaha...thanks Hidden ...I heard that from here!!!

2 HM’s??!! That’s fantastic!!!! I was going a HM Garmin plan but I’ve abandoned it, I don’t think I’ve got it in me ☹️

in reply to Mummycav

You only need a Mummycav plan! That'll do you right! Your way and running how you feel. But make no mistake, you've got it in you. I just think there's a satisfaction unparalleled by running in that moment and enjoying it.

Congratulations on passing your test Mummycav, you’ll be brilliant.

I’m pleased to report that I ran 10k on Sunday , after redoing juju’s magic plan. So it’s a week of tapering for me, in preparation of our Southsea Landmarks 10k on Sunday, in lieu of the Vitality 10000.

I’ve already exceeded the target of 25 miles in October, and ticked off 11 tasks on my running bingo card - 5 to go before 31 October.

Yay, well done on passing your test Mummycav!

My quest has been not so much "On it in October" as "Off my trolley in October!"

I've maintained my weight so far, maybe lost a weeny bit. This is good.

I reverted to my old shopping habits and got two sports bras from Lidl's discount bin. This is both good and TMI. However I've still not splashed out on a real running treat. Thinking of waiting for Black Friday sales...

I've only run twice since I last posted. First was another cold, damp and muddy one, 6.1km. Run number two? I set out planning to do a slow, hilly run on the forest roads, maybe 10k or a bit more. I needed to clear my mind of all sorts of rubbish related to Covid restrictions, so decided to run to choral music from Voces8 rather than my usual podcasts. Beautiful day, lovely views, felt so happy to be alive and really privileged to be living where I do.

Result? An unexpected, unplanned half marathon! 21,5km, 2:44:27, 7.39/km, 446m elevation gain. While I'm super-proud, it's also frankly daft, and if I have a November quest I think it really will need to be "act my age and not my shoe size!"

Happy running, all!

Congratulations MummyCav, good luck for the final phase of qualifying.

All going well here, consistently hitting 3 runs a week. Up to 165miles on Lejog5, hoping to hit get my 200 mile postcard by the end of the month. I have taken to doing some of my work meetings while walking - I find I can concentrate so much better when I'm away from my screen at least some of the day, and of course it does wonders for my daily mileage and fitness too.

I did a run at the weekend for a challenge by my local running club, managed to do 8.5k in 50 minutes which I was very chuffed by - another 10 minutes of that would get me a sub-60 10k which is the new goal I'm chasing. I'd love to go sub-60 for the Vitality 10k this half term but will have to see how I get on. Part of me wants to have an easy week this week in preparation for doing the Vitality this weekend (there's a whole week to do it in but if I do it this weekend it's also my magic plan graduation run) and part of me just wants to keep running!

Oh, and I have finally managed to fit in a few yoga sessions again, plus have started a new James Dunne programme which will hopefully help me with technique and injury-prevention.

Hi MC, well done you 👍

I had an assault on my treadmill target on Monday, and managed 4 out of 5k at my target speed of 13kph (=23 mins for 5k). Which resulted in a (not) parkrun time of 23’37”, a new PB, albeit with mechanical assistance. So very happy to follow that with a couple of gentle tapering jogs before the Virtual Vitality 10k (Southsea landmarks version) on Sunday.

Onwards and upwards!!

Wowzers UpTheStanley ..I can only dream of a time like that!!! At 23 mins I have just about covered 3.5k!!! You are amazing!!!

Good luck with your lovely sounding 10k on Sunday 😉

And thank you, I’m glad it’s over!! 😅

Fantastic Mummycav!! 😁 You did it!! Not that I had any doubts! 😉 How could Miss Iron Knickers not be impressed, such an amazing instructor in the waiting? And one that plays the trombone too!! 🤩🤩

She sounds just like my Sgt Major Garmin 💂‍♀️....🤨, he doesn’t let on, but he’s smiling on the inside🤫! 🤣🤣 Well done you!! 2020 will have some fond memories!

Me...the October Quest continues. Work is full on, so I’m running at different times now, but I’m determined to stay on track! It’s working out ok so far!! ❤️

Thank you so much Fabulous450 ...she did tell me at one point that she was going to go quiet as the test was going to get intense...but she never stopped talking!!! Infact, we missed a couple of right turns because of it and I had to turn round!! I guess she must’ve liked me a bit?!!

Your October quest is going brilliantly, as ever you have found the times, moved them around to suit your day so you can keep getting out there!! Good for you Fab..have a lovely weekend xx

That’s brilliant news Mummycav

All well here with my Oct quest

50 miles for the month done all maf so run / walk still 😬

I’m having a cut back week next week so might just run for a couple of miles at a super slow pace ignoring the heart rate 🤭

I’ve been trying for nearly 3 months now so obviously had zero aerobic fitness if I still can’t run without walking. Least I know what jeffing is like 😂

Happy running everyone 🏃‍♀️

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to RunWillie

Hey RunWillie , thank you, I’m really happy that I passed and glad that’s out of the way...but I think part 3 is the hardest bit so I will take it in my stride...

50 miles of fantastic...walking or running it’s a brilliant achievement and something you should be really happy with!! And there’s nothing wrong with Jeffing!! I do it now and again...we have to do what’s best for us at that time 😉

RunWillie profile image
RunWillieGraduate10 in reply to Mummycav

Hope your part 3 training is going well!

I’ve just spent the week jeffing 30/30. It was so good to have a break from checking my watch for heart rate.

Most runs were still mostly aerobic and my heart rate was much lower than pre MAF training. My recovery times have increased slightly from when I was 100% running MAF miles.

Tempted to park the MAF training as we enter our Summer and keep jeffing 30/30 🏃‍♀️

Have moved to my new home which has some lovely running at this time of year - quite a bit colder though! Will take a photo to share if I remember.

Slowly but surely making my way through the magic plan which was my quest for the month. Progress has slowed down a bit in terms of pace, but that's not the main focus for me anyway - as long as I keep going that's the main thing!

Not sure if it's the longer runs or new environment or just the move being tiring, but my last few runs have been physically tougher - felt a bit of quad pain during yesterday's 8K W4 run, so will take an extra rest day before finishing off this week with a 5K on Saturday!

On the plus side the weight continues to drop off which is good motivaiton to keep plodding through with running and will make the running easier.

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to FurtherFaster

Happy new home FurtherFaster and how lovely to have some new routes waiting for you to discover them?!!

As for your runs feeling tough...I know exactly what you mean, some times runs are like that...and sometimes it can last for ages, there’s no rhyme or reason to it..it could be anything from the move, the weather, your diet...hydration...it’s hard to put your finger on but you’re doing the right thing...keeping going, pace does not matter, the fact that you’re getting out there is more important...

Well done with your weight loss, that must make you feel good...

An extra rest day, just to be sure, sounds like a good idea...enjoy your 5k tomorrow 😉

Well done on your driving instructor exam.

I had a nice encouraging 9k run last weekend with NRC followed by a 5k that felt tough but wasn't according to the stats.

Some shiny new trail shoes arrived and were duly christened today with a tough 4k through the woods. The stats agreed with perceived effort this time. No hidden doggy gifts amongst the leaves thankfully 😁

I've stopped swimming between runs for the time being. We're in Tier 2 here and with rising infection rates I really don't want to risk being told to self isolate at this point in time.

I desperately need to graduate on the Magic Plan and run the Virtual Vitality London 10,000

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to Birdlady64

Thank you so much Birdlady64 , I’m pretty pleased with myself 😉

Happy new shoes to you, there’s nothing like a package arriving when it contains new shoes is there?!!

We’re in tier 2 as well...and tier 3 is looming...

Well done on your 9k, tough or not that’s some distance you covered so you should be pleased with yourself 😊

I’m sure you’ll manage your graduation and the vitality...keep on believing in yourself x

Well an excellent theme from Mummycav as far as I am concerned as the metaphorical dog turd I suspected was out there has turned out to be much much fouler than I thought...

... sometimes a run is brilliant for running off difficult emotions but couldn't risk it this time so I am well down on my runs (plus not getting those early up and out starts... in short, my son has been dumped off his college course... not entirely surprisingly or unreasonably but he has been treated very badly and unfairly indeed in the process (over and above the slack we have to cut stressed staff at a difficult time)... so I have been busy looking after his abused mental health and getting something else set up.

... those tidying/decluttering sessions have also hit the buffers... but hey, they are always there waiting.

... this dismal showing prompted me to take care of my other goal for the month which was to try out some home cardio and I have dipped my toe (and other parts) into Joe Wicks' PE lessons. I think it is safe to say that HIIT and I do not really get on... I was nearly done at the end of the warm up and I lasted 10 minutes tops. But it was quite fun to try and I might well do that sort of length session again. Occasionally...

Hi!!

I'm continuing to up my distance weekly and last week managed a 13k (8 mile) run! Which is definitely making 10 miles seem more achievable :) After my fall though my knee has been a bit irritated, so this week I'm making a recovery week, and keeping my long run at 10k. I was going to cut my distance next week, but i think helping my body recover (and not injure myself!) is important.

But I am planning for next week either a 15k or a 10 mile run, depending on how I feel!!

Other goals-wise: I finally bought a base layer for running too!! The sizing was so big that I ended up going for a children's size, but no matter because I saved some money :)

Also I must say with the clocks changing I am hoping to stay on track also when it gets dark so early (I don't like running in the dark), so I think some daytime runs will be necessary.

Hi Mummycav and fellow Questers,

So pleased that you passed the driving test part of your instructor training course... huge well done🚗😊 and good luck with the third part 🤞xx

I'm feeling very pleased with how my recovery is going now. This week I completed the last 2 runs of Week 4 of C25k full of confidence and with no issues. How excited am I to be moving up to Wk5, knowing that 20 min run is coming up soon.🤗

This months yoga has been quite tough. I'm doing COURAGE with Lexi6, there has been so much core, abs and arm work we are really feeling it! It's got to be making us stronger though... and I think toning my tummy a bit. I have been keeping up the Strength and Conditioning exercises in between, making myself do them.😏

The only time my foot really ached was during and after a long country walk where Mr Bbr and I went on an extra loop and overdid it a bit. No harm done though.

Don't forget to put the clocks back tonight!

Happy Questing everyone!
