This morning was due to be my final 10K Magic Plan run. It was much cooler than it's been, with rain threatening, so I swapped my usual running tee and shorts for a long-sleeved pink top, and black and pink leggings, finished off with magenta pink socks and a candy pink running belt.
My neighbour's adorable but car-chasing border collie cross puppy decided to accompany me for my warm-up walk and the first km, which was lovely until we got towards the road. Fortunately she then got distracted and left me to continue alone.
Off I went up, and up, and up the road for about 3k before turning onto the forest track, where things flattened out a bit. It rained last night, so the air was cool and deliciously scented with pine.
So I got to thinking about Tinytears60 's and others' "Run for life" posts, and about my friend Ann, who loved trees and whose life was cut short by breast cancer when she was just 51.
Strava announced 5k just as I came to the best viewpoint on the track, so I took a photo.
And then I ran, and ran, and ran. For Ann. And for my Mum, who also died from breast cancer, though after a long and happy life, aged 87. She told me, "Never, ever give up." So I didn't.
I ran 16.34k at 7.56/km, in 2:09:46, with 297m cumulative elevation gain.
I had no idea I could do that. In fact I still can't believe it, except that I have Strava and photos (and slightly achey legs!) to prove it.
Thanks, Mum. And yes, I am a daft beggar!

Oh my goodness, I missed this post! I love the sound of the forest path and how you just ran and ran. Such freedom! To run for your loved ones who are no longer here, but with positive thoughts. It seems to have been a week where the unexpected happens. Following you!
Such a beautiful post. Love is a powerful thing. Look at what you achieved, driven by your love for your Mum and your friend.♥️❤️❣️
I feel a bit emotional now. My close friend lost her mum a couple of months back. She had terminal bowel cancer, but it was Covid that was her undoing on the end.
Wow, what a wonderful run for you Cmoi, and a great incentive to run for.
You may be pleased to know there's a 10 mile badge (16.1k) which you've earned so you need to pop over to Marathon Running and Race Support to stake your claim, well done 🏃♀️🎉
