Longest run for 2 months.

A beautiful sunny morning where I am in Central Scotland so as I have not run more than a 5K for now 2 months since my 10 miler on 22 July I set out to run 8 kilometers this morning.

I started at 7.15, good steady pace round the loch which was 'steaming' mist rising from the water due to the low temperature of 4C/39F, only met 3 other runners who said good morning to me, so 8K completed at a pace of 07:18/KM in a time of 58.21, I was thinking during the run if I can't do this run in less than one hour I will no longer run more than 5K but as this run was under a hour, perhaps next Wednesday I'll try a 12K.

Nice run this morning for me round Broadwood Loch, part of the route is still flooded, I'll see how bad or good the flooded part is on Sunday morning when I cycle round the more muddy part, I don't mind the mud now that I have trail shoes but a long deep puddle I do not like.

Beautiful sunny day!!!! It’s raining here and grey ☹️ But we do need it.

Well done Al, that sounds a fab run and I’m sure that loch was magical 🥰

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to Irishprincess

Thank Irishprincess, we have had enough rain to do us for a while, part of my running route is still flooded, I will take a bike ride round the flooded bit this coming Sunday, if the floodwater is down I then will be able to run that 12K I intend to run next Wednesday on it in my new trail shoes.

You’ll do it Al....🏃🙂

👍 🏃🏾

Yes Al!! Woo-hoooooo

I like your pacing here. To be honest 5m in under an hour is ace. That's what I usually do, if not longer. Great stuff my man. Bung it on Relive too!!

👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

In Al we trust

Just seen it. Great running!

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to

I hope you liked it on Relive, you will have noticed that I started my run after I crossed that bridge over the M80 motorway, that is the main road between Glasgow and Stirling, my route then goes slightly downhill, under a underpass then past a short housing estate where everyone have two cars, I run around that exactly 1 Kilometre area twice, that gets me to 3 Kilometres, next round the loch which is about 3 km, would be 4KM if I had ran on the extended flooded area which I missed this morning, it was a good run, all off road except on that very quite exclusive housing estate where incidently I know that many runners live . 😊 🏃🏾

Great stuff, Al as always. Good to mix up the run distances.

Yes HeavyFoot I like to mix my runs and distances. 😊 🏃🏾

Great early morning run. It must have been lovely to run round the loch. Well done going out on such a chilly day. I’m using baby minding duties this morning as an excuse to run after lunch😂 happy running 🤗

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to Grannyhugs

Thanks Grannyhugs, it was a bit chilly at first, I was wearing my new trail shoes, light joggers, not shorts, my new running belt, a very light jumper and running baseball cap, once I was running I no longer felt cold, I hope you enjoy a happy run after lunch, the temperature for your run should be around 11C, a little warmer than it was at 7.15 am. 🏃🏾 👍

GrannyhugsGraduate10 in reply to AlMorr

Just back from short slow run in 13deg sun. Already walked 10000 steps with baby hugs this morning so I’m counting this as just a run because it was run day.

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to Grannyhugs

That was a great 🚶 walk you had with baby hugs this morning, 10,000 steps, well done, also, congratulations on your short slow run this afternoon in the 13C temperature, I am sure you you enjoyed it. 😊 🏃🏾

8k takes me just over an hour at my long run pace! I'm still so slow!! Going out to do 4k along a very windy wet seafront later as I'm on holiday! Well done for your run!

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to Ang33333

I hope you enjoy your 4K this afternoon, much harder conditions than my run this morning when there was no wind whatsoever. 😊 🏃🏾

Well done Al 👏👏

A fab run by the sound of it....

the distance doesn’t really matter ..

the important thing is you got out there and did!

Sounds so lovely where you run- would love to see a photo of it- you describe it so nicely 👌

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to Tinytears60

It indeed was a fab run for me today Tinytears60, a bit cold at first but I soon warmed up, regarding distance and time, I sort of set a time target that I hope won't be longer, this morning I hoped to do that 8K in around 60 minutes, as it was I ran it in just over 58 minutes, 21 seconds to be exact, I'll try and get a photo of the place I run soon, the part I start and end my running are about 1 km from the most scenic part of my route so it would mean stopping to take a photo which I tend not to do during a run, tomorrow I will be walking around that loch with my Thursday 🚶 walking group (still allowed) and I will take a photograph of the loch which I ran around today. 😊

We have just had a very nice run along the Wirral Way which goes alongside the campsite into Wirral country park. A disused railway line so flat but plenty of puddles. Raining when we started but has eased off now, so a walk along the Wirral Way to West Kirby after lunch

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to RunaroundSue

I hope you enjoyed your 🏃🏾 run along the Wirral Way as I enjoyed mine this morning, the rain you had we had on Tuesday evening, enjoy your 🚶 walk after lunch. 😊

Yes it was very sunny this morning when I was running, however, it has clouded over a little now but still nice a bright, your milage for LEJOG must be around 250 miles now

Buddy34 profile image

Just over 240 😊👍

Lovely run AlMorr . It must have been so beautiful with the Loch “steaming”. 😍

A great time for your 8k too, and great to hear that you’re planning a 12k next week. You can do it. 👊🏃‍♂️

Wednesdays are my long run days as a rule too, although today’s was a bimbling 10k after my 10 miles last week. I love the longer runs. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to cheekychipmunks

Usually around sunrise lakes and lochs if you are in Scotland have a mist on them due to the ground nearby cooling to saturation point resulting in mist forming over the water, it usually goes quickly and is a sign of a nice sunny day which it is now.

I was quite happy with my run this morning, only met 3 other runners who said good morning. 😊 🏃🏾 Today was my longest run since I ran 10 miles in July.

Well done Alan, I’m glad your sub 1 hr time means that you can continue with your longer runs! Enjoy!

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to Oldgirlruns

Yes indeed Oldgirlruns, I was seriously thinking if this 8K run at 168 cadence/steps/beats a minute with my metromone app ticking away can't be run sub 60 minutes I will no long run any more than 5Ks, as it was I ran a sub 60 minutes at 58.21, so I will continue with longer runs.

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to SueAppleRun

Thanks WillowandSolo, the sun was shining, but despite that I still can't run on the extended more muddy part of the route because of flooding, I will take a bike ride around that bit on Sunday to see if I can run 12K next Wednesday.

Sounds like a lovely run Al. To run round the loch early in the morning must be wonderful.

I'm in North Wales at the moment and have done one 3.5k from the cottage where we are staying and need to do a 5k before the weekend as part of the Magic Plan. It is nice to run somewhere new.

The furthest I have run so far is 7k and next week it will be 8k but I will be home by then.

Good luck with your 10k next week I'm sure you will do it in a good time too👍😁

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10

Thanks Birdlady64, Wales have also got lovely places to run, I hope you enjoyed your 3.5K run as I enjoyed my 8K earlier today, good luck for your 8K next week. 😊 🏃🏾

Great run & great views! 😄 (You transported my imagination straight to a selection of Scottish loch memories!🤗)

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to Elfe5

This loch is not in the middle of Highland Scotland, it is a lovely place to walk, run and cycle, it is a man made loch which previously was just boggy land, part of the paths are over the loch with a boardwalk.

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to MccHa

Thanks MccHa, the run was enjoyable, especially seeing that mist over the water, when you are at sea you must have seen many various weather situations from calm conditions to Storm Force 10 winds, I would imagine a container ship caught up in a Storm 10 gale is very uncomfortable to say the least.

MccHa profile image
MccHaGraduate10 in reply to AlMorr

It’s scary force 10 Al, especially in North Atlantic where there is no where to shelter ☹️☹️☹️

Love running where there is water 👍👍👍

PS, a few years ago I saw a bulk carrier sailing up the River Clyde to Dock at a Dock near Glasgow, I noted its name and followed it for about a year on the Vessel Finder App.

After it left Glasgow it went to Hamburg by way of west of the Outer Hebrides despite a force 8 gale blowing, I thought it might have gone to the east up the Minch for a little shelter but the captain must have known better, after Hamburg it went to a port near Bristol then onto somewhere in Turkey, after that it went to a port in The Gulf and stayed there for about 3 months, last heard of somewhere in the Far East and I lost it because it changed its name, it was registered in Panama I think, the fact that it stayed in the Gulf suggests that most of its crew were Arabs, I hope you are looking forward to getting back to sea.

Great run for you today Al, good luck for the 12k next week. Look forward to reading your write up 😊

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to Mum22boys

Thanks, hopefully I'll be able to run the extended part which is still flooded, with not so much rain recently I will have a cycle ride round it on Sunday and decide then if I can run on that part on Wednesday.
