Post injury, does anyone run with insoles?

Managed a second run today. This one 20 minutes with nothing but a bit of tightness across the front of the ankle. Saw the physio later and she was pleased with my progress. I walk with insoles in my walking boots. The physio suggested that I should get some for my trainers. I have made an appointment at the Podiatrist for Monday. Does anyone run with insoles? Does it take a while to get used to them?

I use Footbalance insoles which were moulded to my feet.

They make a big difference, I don't remember having to get used to them.

NB. By "moulded to my feet" I don't mean that they are stuck on! They stay in my shoes :)

Thanks Sue, did you get them custom fitted in a shop or did you buy them over the internet?

In a shop (which has now closed down)

Hard to say as I had my orthotics for several months before I started running (and I'm convinced that getting them was crucial for me to be able to run).

Thanks, did you get yours from a podiatrist or shop?

Hit reply too soon. Meant to add: mine correct quite strongly and did take a few weeks getting used to for walking, so I'm sure the same would have been more than true for running. But yours may be less of change.

First set from a podiatrist, though I got the same ones to put in my running shoes when I got fed up of switching them from one to another all the time!

Thanks, my orthotics I got for walking took a bit of getting used to. They are quite hard which was what was worrying me for running. Thanks again for replying. Hoping the podiatrist will be able to sort me out on Monday.

Mine are pretty hard too (vasyli medical blue) but seem OK to run on. At some point I want to go back to the podiatrist and get a proper gait analysis!

I didn’t realise podiatrists could do gait analysis. My walking boot orthotics are very hard which is why I was worried about running in them.

Not all of them do but my local one does. Running insoles would probably be ideal because they're bouncier, but you will get a bit of bounce from your running shoe sole, and I think the most important thing is to have everything in the right alignment.

I was worried about my insoles being so hard. I didn’t realise you can get running insoles. A lot to discuss with the podiatrist on Monday. Thanks x

I use insoles. I can't compare them, as I haven't tried running without them - they were originally recommended for my walking boots, and a had another pair for some walking shoes, which I transferred into my trainers when I started running. I consulted a podiatrist about my developing bunion some months ago, and he said continue with the insoles for walking.

I am consulting him again in a few weeks time, and I will ask specifically about running, but so far I have had no pain from my bunion or from my knees, which used to be a problem, so I think the insoles are the right thing.

Thanks Whydothis. I haven’t had a problem with my knee. I have had a problem with my personal tendon and have been out of action for 5 weeks. I have walked with insoles everyday for years. Didn’t think about running in them. Hoping the insoles will help. Wish I had asked this question at the beginning. X

Sorry you have had to stop for those weeks. I hope the insoles help you to get going again without any more injury.
