Well, it’s Tuesday so it must be time to start another week of the quest 🤣

Hope everyone is enjoying their running, exercising, physio, route planning etc. We are now heading towards the end of another month of moving towards long term goals by attempting to achieve some short term ones. How are we all going?

This week for me starts with something a little embarrassing that I’d like to keep to myself, so don’t tell anyone! This morning I had my first “progression run” of my HM plan. 5 minute warmup, 20 minutes at 10:09-11:09 per mile, 10 minutes at 8:00 to 8:30 per mile and then the obligatory 5 minute cool down. All was going well, I was running to effort rather than pace and as with my last run it was feeling pretty good out there... I was running at 9:33 to the mile as the 20 minutes came to an end... my first sub 30 5k of the year was well and truly on its way as I prepared to accelerate... up comes the 10 minutes of quicker running, and I decided to switch to a screen showing time, distance and pace to close it out. Now my lovely VRBs, a note of caution... on a forerunner 35 the down button is bottom right (I’ve used it hundreds of tunes) and on the 245 it’s bottom left. It’s important to get these things in one’s head after an upgrade. I hit bottom right... watch now says “cooldown 5:00” and yes... the real issue with the moving of the down button is that to achieve its relocation, they swapped it with the lap button. Some squirrels learned some interesting words... and I walked my cooldown. If you find any foul mouthed squirrels, you know where I was running!

Have another wonderful week everyone.

When I got my watch its first proper outing was to park run. Ran my fastest time ever, but instead of pressing "stop" I managed to delete it. Still makes me mad to think about it now!

I bet... they really need an undo button! Did you keep the PB on the watch?

FatterPenguin profile image
FatterPenguinGraduate10 in reply to UnfitNoMore

No, the PB disappeared 🤬🤣

Ouch!

Sounds like a really great idea for a progression run. Golly. 8.00 to 8.30 pace is awesome. Wow!! Good luck and keep on keeping on 🎽

Was having a lot of fun out there... and I know the legs have the strength to demolish it next time... there’s some good behind the frustrations!

Well done on your running. I’m on the IC after my 10k two weeks ago. Think my trainers irritated my foot and cause some tendinitis on the longer run. I’ve got some new ones after a gait analysis which sadly are still in the box two weeks later. I am plotting a new plan to get back to 10k with a more conservative build of weekly milage as well as strengthening those problem area’s. Happy running or dreaming of running to all 🏃‍♀️

Just realised we’re in the same boat - tendinitis. good luck with recovery.

Sorry to hear that Dexy5. Running certainly is teaching us patience. Hope you return to running soon 🏃‍♀️

Thanks. Yes I will be back to exercises again now . I can’t see the physio until 5 August but there’s plenty on the web.

New shoes gonna feel great... hope to hear that you’re in them soon... only two weeks so far, so no fitness lost thus far.

Thanks UnfitNoMore. I was hoping I would be back after two weeks but still some patience needed. It’s getting better so hopefully the new shoes will get a run soon 👍🏻

Not running sucks... but that very thought has me cautious about returning as not running for longer sucks more. Fingers crossed your healing continues well.

How are you getting on, any chance of a run soon??

Thanks for checking in 😊This latest injury has been stubborn. I’m going to take the new shoes out for a short slow run in a couple of days and go from there.

Thanks Mum22boys. I did a slow 3km earlier as I was feeling so cooped up with all my boys. It even got uploaded to Strava 🏃‍♀️👍🏻

That sounds positive 😊 and hopefully some you time recharged the mind as well

Whoops, a slight delay to my starting the magic plan. I have tweaked my Achilles’ tendon so back to the IC. It’s probably due to a combination of Reasons including my running shoes wearing out, running faster because of (not) parkrun and wearing flat sandals. I will return, but in the meantime, back on my bike. 🚴‍♀️

That’s a damn shame... saw you weren’t in the run today... here’s hoping it’s a tiny thing and you’re back out there for one soon.

Me too. I did enjoy the breakfast though, even if I didn’t run, and rested it on the

Oh no, interface fail! I'm so sorry, how annoying.

Interesting week for me. I set out to get a 5k+ run in the bag using a route I've walked before, a good few years ago, except I was going to run it in the opposite direction. That part of the plan was a good call. Started well, down into a Dale which was a lot more beautiful than it has been previously, full of flowers and butterflies and brain well engaged by the rocks in the path. Some weird patches of disagreeable mud but I was expecting those.

The trouble came on the middle leg with no proper signing and my OS app doesn't go down quite fine enough to pick up the distinction between one side of a wall and another. By this point I was walking, it was uphill and it was hot. Got the wobbles again and would have laid down except the thistles were a bit too thick on the ground so just sat. Then found I was in the wrong field and had to go back down. Contemplated phoning husband to pump his tyres and come and get me, but I am proud to say I didn't do that.

Then trouble getting over a wall stile and through nettles only to remember the awful problems we had before finding the correct route through a farmyard in the other direction. This time it involved walking through slurry.

I've done a bit of Googling and this route is a problem, with some people choosing the narrow lane instead, so I have submitted a report to the county council.

After that, things were better although a bit busier with people but eventually back to the top of the hill and was delighted to run the final section which goes straight through a succession of meadows and different crops, but very clear route. So in the end I was happy with that!

Otherwise, new routes and old, and my challenging run compensated for my day without a Fitbit so that last week I did increase my average step count a bit. Yoga is focussed and on track, another 5k+ to do

What an adventure! Sounds crazy with the path, but you got up that hill victorious. Here’s to a less eventful, just as successful week ahead.

This week I have been trying out a new route. It is more road running than my usual route through a country park. It has been a nice change and I have enjoyed the runs. I have also managed to run 3 times last week. There have been a couple of days where I have really wanted to run after work. I am usually a morning runner so struggled with the warmth of the early evening and the fact that there are too many people around. Apart from the toddler who decided to stop in the middle of the path as I was about to go around I have had a good week with 3 x 5k runs under my belt.

I am continuing with the yoga and exercise classes on the fitness app.

Happy running everyone.

Nice work this week. In finding more people an issue too... they like to block me by walking 6 abreast across paths... a little cough tends to part them 🤣. Well done keeping it all up... have a wonderful week.

Managed my weekly sub-25 (not) parkrun yesterday, and booked a first gym session (for next Tuesday) this morning. My arm muscles are aching already, having been unexercised for 4 months .......

New quest - keeping a non-running Dexy5 happy ......

Hmmm... keeping a runner who’s currently not running happy? Good luck with that 🤣

Great job again on the (not) parkrun. Enjoy beating those arms up in the gym! I’m sure you’ll soon be back in the swing of it.

Have another awesome week!

Well, my schedule was to finish the magic plan with a 10k run on Friday, but I was feeling up for a long run this evening so I just went for it and did 10k today in just under an hour 💪 I felt shattered but elated - I started C25k on 25 March and just 4 months later, I’ve run 10k 😃 I’ll finish off the two short runs in the programme this week and then spend some time consolidating before looking ahead to the next challenge - whatever that may be!

UnfitNoMore profile image
UnfitNoMoreGraduate10 in reply to spark303

Way to go... smashing 10k and sub 60 all at once! Many congratulations. Enjoy the two shorter runs now, consider them you carrying the flag round the stadium after a big win! As for the next challenge... there’s a couple of distances there if you wanna go further... 15k, 10 miles and HM... the first two are occasionally run as events and so there’s training plans for them out there... HM is very popular of course and hard not to find a good plan for! For now it’s time to celebrate well and reflect on a another awesome achievement.

My quest for July has gone a little haywire 🥴 the injury picked up just over a week ago has settled and managed a nice gentle 5k yesterday morning. Got an online physio session Tuesday evening and already incorporating some more strengthening exercises in to wherever I can during the day. My 3yr old was doing clams with me the other day 🤣 definitely not going to hit my km target for July but I'm ok with that.

UnfitNoMore profile image
UnfitNoMoreGraduate10 in reply to Mum22boys

Good to see that you’re running at all... goals can wait for another month, a good recovery and strengthening are the right thing to be focused on. Love the 3yo joining in the exercises... a great habit to be forming early on in life!

Hope the physio helps you onwards on Tuesday. Have a great week heading along a different path to the planned one, but awesome just the same.
