Had to stop running for a while

I managed to get up to one full hour running... then fell and broke a rib.

I’m so worried that I’ll have gone right back when I’m able to run again . How far back do you think I should restart? And when to restart? It’s been 10 days and not a bit less painful than in the beginning?

Ouch, broken ribs are so painful. You really need to take care when you restart running as it's such high impact. If I was you I'd start with short slow runs to monitor the pain. This will also show you how your fitness has been. Are you able to continue with low impact sports at the moment - walking or cycling for example. Take care 🤗

But have stopped running and horse riding altogether

Yikes really can't imagine horse riding with broken ribs. You'll get your form back. When you are ready dont rush to get back to where you were, take your time to avoid a running injury, each run will still be counting towards a wonderful journey. 🤗

I broke a couple of ribs a few years ago and was in pain for months... which probably isn’t what you want to hear right now. Unlike legs and arms ribs can’t be held in one place and so the healing process is a little slow. I’d definitely be looking at weeks rather than days for a short run... I didn’t run at the time, but any time I got comfortable and then moved that arm the pain struck... I’d wait until walking is pain free... maybe do some speed walking then too, before adding the extra impact of running.
