First run with Garmin

โ€ข45 Replies

I enjoyed this one. A 10k to try out my 45s and I enjoyed it. I didn't have to take my phone around my waist which is sometimes uncomfortable so just looking at a watch rather than randomly at my phone was a huge help! Felt strong today and had more in the tank but wanted to keep my knees comfortable. I've managed 78.8 miles this month. I'm buzzing ๐Ÿ˜Š

Well done GTFC! The Garmin helps doesn't it? I agree - so much easier to have all the info on your wrist although I do still carry my phone for the podcasts. You're enthusiasm is infectious ๐Ÿ‘

in reply to 59er

Thank you ๐Ÿ˜Š I will still take my phone for safety I think in future. I loved looking at the watch from time to time.

Great run and time for you GTFC, you deserve to be buzzing, I am sure the Garmin watch helped a lot with the run and not having a phone around your waist.

Tomorrow is July and I hope to run 11K in the morning in a quest to run just over 16K/10 miles by the end of the month by running 1 K more each Wednesday.

in reply to AlMorr

Ooooh. Good luck. I always think of you on Wednesday! Love this idea and let us know how it goes. You'll be great!!

I am not going to take my metromone app with me, instead I will have music, probably one of Jancanrun's Spotify music lists.

Good morning 59er and GTFC, I have just come back from my longest run ever, an 11K, the last 1K was hard as I had never run that distance, strangely enough, my 10K split time was 73.32 compared to the time of my tenth 10K last week which was 73.38, however, the last 1K was a slower 8.16Km pace giving my at a total time of 81.41 for my first 11K, next week I may take a short pause at 10K before running a further two kilometres to 12K.

in reply to AlMorr

Love this Al!!

Congratulations. A true milestone run. The furthest you've ever been so I offer my heartfelt congratulations ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿฅ‡๐ŸŽฝ

I think doing what you do inspires many and it certainly does me. I'll give you a big virtual hug from the Humber. How will you mark the occasion??

Nothing special GTFC, I have just had lunch which was chicken soup, 3 chicken portions, one small roll, a small chocolate biscuit and a drink of coffee.

I have been advised by our friend Grannyhugs to buy jelly babies before I run 12K next Wednesday.

in reply to AlMorr

Ooooooh. Sometimes they can give you a bit of zing if you feel like a boost!

I've only taken 5 antibiotics and there is a massive difference since yesterday so they seem to be working thanks ๐Ÿ‘

Ooh a new toy - brilliant. I love my Garmin, great for comparing runs and all those numbers ๐Ÿ˜€ that was a great 10k. Happy running ๐Ÿค—

in reply to Grannyhugs

Thank you! The numbers after are ace to look at after over a cuppa ๐Ÿ˜Š

Good choice GTFC! I also have the Forerunner 45S, having recently upgraded from a very old Forerunner 10 ( had to plug in to laptop to upload as it didn't have Bluetooth!). I do still take my phone in my back pocket though - for music and emergencies!

Well done on your inaugural Garmin run - amazing mileage this month and I am spotting another super-speedy time!๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ˜ƒGlad the knees were good too!

I took my knees out for some hill repeats after work today. Never done repeats before but I quite enjoyed my session in a slightly 'why am I doing this?' kind of way! Only time will tell if they help my pace...๐Ÿคž๐Ÿ™‚

in reply to Sandraj39

Oooooh. I've been thinking about this too so well done you! I really hope it helps you. I think sessions like these can break runs up and be something a little different. You are ace!

..too kind!๐Ÿ™‚ It did feel good to try something different and I will definately try to do them regularly to see if they help.

Nice GTFC! Once a Garmin wearer, always a Garmin wearer. I wouldnโ€™t be without mine, in fact Iโ€™ve been wearing it constantly throughout lockdown!

in reply to cheekychipmunks

Thank you! It was quite liberating putting it on and going out there. I have started to wear it during the day too!

Ooo new toy, very exciting ๐Ÿ˜€ enjoy! June has been a good month for you ๐Ÿ˜Š

It really has, thank you. I feel fit and strong again.

Exciting to see what July has in store!

in reply to Mum22boys

I think as long as I keep getting out three times a week I'll be chuffed. How about you? Do you have set days or is it when you are able to?

Mum22boys profile image
Mum22boysGraduate10 in reply to

So at the moment I run Tuesday and Thursday evenings and then long run Sunday morning while hubby deals with the ocado delivery ๐Ÿ˜‰ he prefers me out of the house so I can't stress about the chaos ๐Ÿ˜‚ however we've managed to get our delivery back to Saturday from this week so I'll move long run to then and then probably do Monday and Wednesday evenings. I'm just having a think about what I'd like to achieve in July, definitely getting to 10k and then I've been trying to focus on keeping heart rate down so might do a bit more of that

in reply to Mum22boys

You can do it! That's the first thing. I like your days. I did my whole C25k Monday, Wednesday and Friday but since then like to do a long run on a Sunday. It's ace you can get out with the busy family you have. The heart rate idea is ace. I may now look at that too. Good luck and just think, in July you'll be making a milestone ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š

I have the forerunner 45 so have just checked out the 45S on the website. A completely different shape To mine but it looks like the controls are all the same. Much easier to see while running, than the touch screen ones. I still take my phone for safety and to play music, but once itโ€™s synced with Bluetooth at home you can put the phone in a back pocket or running belt and forget about it. Happy running.

in reply to Dexy5

Thank you so much! I'm learning about it all the time so will keep trying to work it all out. The ability to look at a watch after 7 months of running rather than whipping my phone out of my belt to see how I'm doing is ace!

Yes Iโ€™ve loved it. I also have some aftershokz earphones which are great. Thereโ€™s always something nice to have with running!

Great fun! Love Garmin, although I don't always agree with it's stats - particularly when it tells me my VO2max is dropping ๐Ÿคฌ . Do you want it displayed in miles? You can change it to metric if you prefer.

in reply to linda9389

I personally prefer miles, but thank you for letting me know. I mainly run 5 miles + so like to keep it that way as I understand it easier. Hope you are getting on ok.

That's great going, well done ๐Ÿ‘

Sounds like a great new toy you got there.

I'd definitely be tempted to go for a Garmin when my Fitbit packs up.

I hear so many positive things about Garmins on here.

Well done again, great running.

in reply to MartinKH

Thank you mate. Appreciate it. I thought I'd give one a go and as it's only a little more than a 35 I went for it. Hopefully it all works out. How are you getting on building back up my friend?

MartinKH profile image
MartinKHGraduate10 in reply to

Iโ€™m sure itโ€™ll work out great with you shiny new 45s ๐Ÿ‘

Iโ€™m doing alright thank you, just gradually building up ... just had my first 5k run since return from the IC.

Thanks and asking, and happy running ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ ๐Ÿ‘

in reply to MartinKH

Mate! This is a milestone!! All those moments waiting to get back from the IC and you've done it. Absolutely brilliant. Onwards and upwards steadily my friend.
