I completed 10K! - there were happy tears... ๐Ÿ˜…

I went out early yesterday so that it would be nice and quiet. I was nervous as it was my final run of Juju's Magic 10 (which I found worked perfectly - thanks Juju ๐Ÿ‘) I had signed up for a 10K a few months ago which should have been today but I could complete it virtually which I did yesterday. It was hard but I did it! I tried to push myself a bit as it was a race after all and managed to just pip 70mins which was my goal as my best 5K is 34mins.

When I got home after a little walk to ease the stiff legs I burst into tears! I read afterwards you can get over emotional when fatigued!! ๐Ÿคฃ I was knackered but I felt I'd been on such a journey - I completed C25K about a year ago, overdid it afterwards, spent a couple of months not being able to run (Achilles strain) Then repeated C25K, this time consolidated 5K, then did Juju's plan. I've been running to help my mental health and it's worked, I love being outside in the early morning fresh air, plodding along, what a sense of freedom! Plus I was always the girl at school who was rubbish at sport and would finish last at sports day so I can't believe I've found a physical activity that I enjoy and feel now will be always part of my life.

I have changed my profile pic in celebration! Thank you everyone who contributes to the site, I've spent hours reading posts and learning more about running ๐Ÿ‘ Is it possible to get a badge please ๐Ÿ™ ๐Ÿ˜Š Happy running everyone and sorry for the long post, got carried away!!

Whoop whoop ๐ŸŽˆ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿคธโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿฅณ congratulations and very well done to you! Your perseverance has paid off.

Youโ€™ve worked hard for that by the sound of it and so itโ€™s no wonder you felt emotional at the end.

Celeriac congratulations on your 10k ๐Ÿฅ‡๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐ŸŽ‰ when I did my first 10k on the Ju-ju plan I was crying while I put on my running shoes and didn't stop for the first 10mins of the run!! I never ran in my life till 2yrs ago when I started C25K like you I couldn't believe what I had achieved.

You do learn so much about your character when you take on these running challenges. You are an athlete's!

Happy running and I love your profile picture ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Please donโ€™t make the same mistake I did and fail to consolidate!

I rested on my laurels and totally failed to keep it up - I did my first 10k last June, and my second only this morning!

So I would recommend consolidating for a few weeks at that distance whilst you consider where you want to go next, just like you did after C25K.

Thanks for the advice. I will make sure I consolidate ๐Ÿ‘

But am determined to carry on now Iโ€™ve got back there, although I donโ€™t think I will ever be a marathon runner!

Thanks grannyhugs! I don't feel like a fit runner but having said that I'm certainly fitter than when I started. I often think about how out of breath I was after the 60 second runs in C25K...

Well done!! ๐ŸŽ‰ I was like you at school, the girl crap at PE, and I too am amazed that I can run, well sort of! Iโ€™ve done C25K and havenโ€™t started training for 10k yet cos it seems just a bit out of my reach to be honest, but youโ€™ve inspired me to give it a go!

Celeriac profile image
CeleriacGraduate10 in reply to Harvs9

Thanks Harvs9!

I definitely thought that I'd never be able to run more than 5K especially after I got injured from overdoing it and having to go backwards. I'm still amazed that I've done it. I'm sure you'll be able to do it too if you want to. I would definitely recommend sticking to 5K first for a few weeks and then slowly follow Juju's plan. If you feel at any stage you may be overdoing it, take some days off and/or repeat a week or two. There's no rush and you'll enjoy it more if you take it easy. Also if it feels too hard all the time, the enjoyment goes down and surely it's all about making us feel good. I'm loving the journey like you and will slowly see what's next, after consolidating that is! Good luck and keep enjoying it, it's extra amazing for us rubbish PE girls!!! ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ

Well done! I've been consolidating my 5k runs for a couple of months and have just started jujus plan, so its great to hear about others smashing the 10k barrier. That's a massive achievement and a great time too. Woohoo ๐Ÿ‘

You've done the right thing in consolidating first, that's where I fell down the first time and it's very frustrating getting injured. You'll smash it, enjoy the journey ๐Ÿ˜

Excellent! well done ๐Ÿ‘

Iโ€™m still consolidating after C25k with only a mild flirtation with 10k plan. I too get Achilles strain which is a frustration as I didnโ€™t get it earlier and it currently prevents progress. Still, Iโ€™m much fitter than I was in 2019. Keep it up ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ

Celeriac profile image
CeleriacGraduate10 in reply to JoggingBear

Thanks Joggingbear

Yes the Achilles problem is very frustrating! Consolidation and then taking it slowly was key for me. If I felt a twinge, I would take extra days off and maybe only run twice that week or once if ness. My legs have slowly got stronger and it has eased now. I'm hoping I can continue to slowly progress. Keep flirting with the 10K plan gingerly and take your time. Keep enjoying it, that's the main thing. ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ

I was rubbish at PE too. Only came middle of the class at cross country because the others didn't try. Brilliant time: neither of my 10ks were under 70 mins!

Thanks Rowers! Only 2 seconds under mind. I remember going flying during our school cross country as I tripped over someone who was tying their shoelaces. At the time I was pretty fed up thinking oh typically I'm crap again on PE day. Looking back now it's quite comical really! ๐Ÿคฃ
