Oh no!!!! 👟😫

Well my lovely new expensive trainers that I bought after having a gait analysis only hurt my legs ☹️ I ran a 5k this morning and for the first time ever had sore shins and could really feel my hamstrings! Feel like crying... when I started c25k I bought neutral UA trainers for £25 and they have been ok this whole journey.

I plan to run on the treadmill on Monday to see how I get on but if I feel sore I don’t know what to do 😱 I can’t afford to waste money on shoes I can’t use. A friend said I could take them back but the shop is over 100 miles away 😭 Tonight my legs feel heavy and uncomfortable.

I'm not sure about this . Could it possibly be the transition to new trainers.

Hopefully someone on here will be able to give you an answer 😊

Even phone the store you bought them from and ask their opinion

That’s what I hope! I’ve run in neutral shoes but been told I need stability so hoping it’s just cos my legs r not used to this new foot placement 🤷🏻‍♀️ although I’ve now had 2 runner friends say ‘oh yeah I don’t like that brand as they gave me shin splints’ 😱

Just remembered you had bought Brooks running shoes . Although you say you are 100 miles away from where you bought them , brooks let you run in them for 90 days and if you're not happy you can return them.

Possibly they may let you return them by post if you explain the circumstance.

Ah right, good to know! None of that was explained in the store I bought them from. It wasn’t a Brooks store (not sure if they even have stores haha) would it matter?

Yes the shops never seem to know about this. But Brooks have excellent customer service.

If you’ve changed from neutral to support shoe it will take a little while for your legs to adjust . So try a few short runs until you adapt. If that doesn’t work , I’d ring up the shop and explain what the problem is. If they have have recommended shoes to you then they need to correct the situation. Good luck.

I’d give it a bit more time, the shoes may be forcing you to run correctly and using your muscles in a slightly different way to you are used to. I have really flat feet and my right foot points outwards a little bit. On a Saturday I run on a light Gravel trail and the shoes I had used during the week were just not up to it. I went and bought a really good pair of ASICS trail runners and although the first run felt strange they are now really great and I’m glad I bought them.

I love Brooks and personally never had problems in my neutrals. I over probate but have insoles for them from the podiatrist But if you’re now in a stability shoe it may be too supportive?

Yeah, looking at the recorded footage, my right foot is landing pretty straight. It was the left foot where I had an issue. Will try a run on Monday and see. One other thing I did notice was last night I wore the trainers just watching tv 😂 but kept getting slight cramps in my arches so thought I’d tied them too tight. When I ran today I made sure I loosened the laces. Now wonder if they just don’t suit my feet 🙈

When I first ran with my insoles the arches of my feet hurt. But that’s because they were pushing up my arches. I have flat feet so needed this to happen! A few runs later all felt fine. But if only one of your feet needs support that could be the problem.

When I finally did get the correct trainers I re ran the whole programme. Some of that was because I was coming back from injury, but mainly because the sports physio said my legs had to adjust to the gait correction I also only over pronate with my left leg , but significantly so apparently😬

You have 90 days, so rest and recover, then maybe try some short runs.

This happened to me not that long ago, I persisted with the trainers, tried running a few softer routes on grass and now these are my fave running shoes (which are unfortunately too small!)

I think sometimes a new pair of shoes can do this when you’re used to a certain pair and then suddenly run in something else. Hope this resolves for you.

The first time I bought shoes from a specialist shop, they recommended I ran no more than 2k in them on the first outing. With each successive pair of shoes, I have done that, then stepped up in 1 k intervals until I am sure they are ok. As others say, Brooks allow return up to 90 days, so you have time to try to adjust if you wish. You would have to return via the retailer as it’s their problem.

Hi CJMumma! I wear Brooks and exchanged one of my pairs as they had started to wear away quickly on the lace part where you tie them. Anyway I couldn’t get to the store either as they were a long journey away for me. So I emailed them a couple of pictures of the faulty ones and they happily exchanged them by post.

This was from the store that was not a specific brooks shop. Excellent service I was even allowed a different colour ( which I chose on line) which they had to order in for me.

Good luck 🤗🤗

Definitely call them for advice.

You can always post them back if needed.

Good luck

I loved my Brooks and never had a problem with them. Changed to a different brand and struggled for the first few runs but now my muscles have adjusted and they are fine. Give the Brooks a bit longer and see how you get on then. Good luck.
