Disaster Dahling!

The weather has played havoc with my running plans, as I'm sure is the case for lots of us, so I felt I had to adapt. This meant An Afternoon Run!

The omens weren't good. Due to the way my husband had parked I had to go back into the house to get him to shift it (relevant)

I thought I would kill 2 birds with one stone, and run near to my mums, then call and visit.

I found a safe place to park and started my warm up walk. Then I convinced myself that I hadn't locked the car, so walked back to it, noticed then, that I couldn't find my house key. Scrambled around the car and decided that I must have left it at home, following the "can't get car off path " moment.

Eventually I started running and within minutes decided that I needed to pee!!!.

Okay! I carried on and managed to get to my mothers, total run time 13 minutes.

Returned home and, sodding hell, my husband was out. Now I have to break into our back garden to get the cunningly hidden spare.

But how?

The only way is over a 5 foot fence panel.

Thank goodness my neighbours don't have a back gate, as I spotted a calor gas bottle at the side of their house.

Using that as a starting point I managed to haul myself over and then drop inelegantly over the top.

ktsok ,I know a 5 foot panel is hardly El Capitan, and you probably would have hopped over, but this was a HUGE obstacle to me.

Scrambled back over which was not easy as I couldn't find anything to stand on on our side. Got into the house, and no sign of my house key, I have looked everywhere, retraced the warm up walk route, nothing.

New lock purchased, all for 13 minutes.

On the "was it worth it ?" scale I'm going to say no, it bloody well wasn't 🤯🤯🤯

Aw nooo that’s pants!

Don’t dwell on it Jell6, you actually ran 13 mins more than you would’ve done staying home. Draw the line and look forward.

Shit happens right? Dust it off and give it 2 fingers.

Take care xx

Ahh thanks littlemac24 , I have drawn a line, and at least I didn't damage my leggings!

I'm having Krypton factor assault course flash backs 🤭 next it'll be the zip wire 👍

Oh my, that was an expensive eventful run, yikes. Poor poor you. Hope the next run makes up for it.

It was an expense, but at least my husband was capable of fitting the new lock!

I know Cheeky, It does have a comic feel.🤣

Nice to be able to reply to you, I can't do that when you post on the big forum.

Hope all is okay with you and your family. X

Oh no I keep forgetting not all my VRBs are over there. 😩 I’d post on both, but my waffle is enough on just one I think! 🤦‍♀️

Yes, all good my end. Yours too I hope? I must say I can’t wait for this shocking spell of weather to be history. Roll on spring! 😀

Happy running to you Jell! Xx

You can't be everywhere, and I certainly would be an impostor on that site, but I do read your posts.

I am always impressed with your energy and enthusiasm.

If I am desperate to make a response I will PM you 😘

Is that an accurate re-enactment? My metal imagery had you a lot more crimsoned.

That’s like a council house biathlon. But they do it the other way around I.e climbing over fences first and then running. Often from Police.

If that was me, I would’ve left a Paul-shaped hole in the back door as I rammed through it. Or threw the calor bottle through the window out of spite.

Go easy on the hubby, won’t you!

Jell6 profile image
Jell6Graduate10 in reply to PaulS83

It's pretty accurate!.

I didn't dwell on how truly awful a leggings encased rear end would have appeared to the new neighbours 😬😬, I'm sure it wasn't a good look.

Not helped husband wise, when he pointed out that if I had followed the back garden all the way down to the back of their garden shed there is a gap in the fence, that on a good day, I could have squeezed my arse through.

Yep, that helped.

Oddly enough that's showing at the Everyman Theatre in Liverpool now.

Oh ‘eck. Sometimes it’s just NOT worth it. 😱 Trouble is, how do you know until it’s done? 🤣🤣 But it’s made a great story for the rest of us, and the story will surely last for years, whereas the yuck feeling will be overlaid by the next good run. So maybe consider it an investment? 🤔😄

Jell6 profile image
Jell6Graduate10 in reply to Granspeed

Well that's just it, you don't!!

I have started to use the zipped pocket in my leggings, more faffage, but safer I hope.🤩

Quite the adventure! Shame you don't write for TV - I think you have the plot for a sitcom episode right there!

I’d love to write this from the viewpoint of the new, curtain-twitching neighbours, unaware of the backstory.

So glad the leggings survived unscathed! I blame hubby's poor parking all the way, all his fault 👍🏻🤣😉

Oh dear, better luck next time! 🤞🏻😊

I can trace the root cause back to that, but I exercised restraint and kept that thought to myself 🤐🤐🙂

Jell honey, how on earth did you get that shot? Were you smiling for the CCTV?! Lovely to see a pic of you, if that’s you - aren’t you gorgeous?! I was a bit distracted by the rock face though... spent a few moments imagining being on that...

Funnily enough, on the Nike Recovery Run podcast I was listening to today, the guy was saying how he never regretted going for a run. I guess he never got hit with a locksmith’s bill...

Perhaps comfort yourself with the fact it makes for a very good story?!

Not me, but the photo was the most like the position that I imagined I was in.

El Capitan, yes, magnificent. I have spent a lot of time on the valley floor in Yosemite in awe of this.

I am privileged to have seen the moon rise behind Half Dome.

Last time I went you could not see anything due to wild fires, and I not been back since. I do plan to though, before too long.

ktsok profile image
ktsok in reply to Jell6

Well that makes sense. It was either reenactment (and it sounded like scaling the fence again wasn’t really on the cards), cctv or you get followed around by the paparazzi.

The moon rising behind Half Dome... sigh... a group of friends went to the valley last year and were trying to persuade me to go. None of them have school age children though! Have you seen Valley Uprising? It’s a slightly bonkers film about the original dirtbag climbing nuts who scaled those walls. And there is a good autobiography by Lynn Hill, Vertical Limits, who also cut her teeth with that gang. She was called the Pocket Hercules as she was less than 5’2” but could cling on to anything. She was the first person, male or female, to ‘free’ the nose of El Capitan - that is, to climb it without the aid of gear, using ropes only to protect against a fall. Sigh...

Oh no! Jell glad you and the leggings are still intact. You must have a strong core and arms to get over that fence panel. What a gift running is. 💪🏻 🙂

Jell6 profile image
Jell6Graduate10 in reply to lexi6

You would not think that if you'd seen it!!

I wouldn't have managed without the step up from that gas bottle 🤣🤣🤣.

But yes lexi, thank goodness the leggings survived. 🤩
