Wk 5 8km run

The weather last night seemed to improve so I took the opportunity to do my 8km run of the week in order to have today as a rest day and then tomorrow my 5km run before volunteering at parkrun. All went great until around the 6km point when the heavens opened and the wind picked up, the good news being that the last 2km were done in just over 12mins, the bad news being that pushed my heart rate into zone 3/4 and I was trying for a zone 2 8km run at a pace of 7/km.

I was so wet and cold when i got in that i struggled to do my stretches and even after taking off the wet clothes and pulling on a fleece I got uncontrollable shakes. The other half ran me a bath and I was still shaking after submerging in hot water however a nice mug of hot chocolate delivered to the bathroom seemed to warm me through :)

Hoping for a better day tomorrow to finish my week 5.

Hello Grannytobe, I've gave up with heart rate zones. The running is good and I feel great . 😊

I am not sure running in the cold is for me to be honest :)

Me neither, may have to resort to gym membership as winter is very long cold and damp up here in the north

Thank you, I am really shocked at myself to be honest. Really hope you start to feel better soon and can get back out and working towards your 10km.

Thank you. I am not shocked. If you beat nicotine then running is easy 👍🏼🙏🤪

Hey tiggs1 , hope you've thawed out by now? Ooo a hot chocolate in the bath sounds like a right treat!! I've given up with HR zones too, I'm always in zones 4 and 5 and my VO2 max says im 3 years older than j actually am!!! Pants to that, I'm fitter now than I've ever been!!! Well done Tiggs for sticking it out x

I am all warm again now but I do have to admit that the thought of running through the rest of the winter scares me a little. I just don't seem to be able to figure out what to wear so think I am going to have to take a jacket (just in case).

Totally agree about just being fitter, i love the fact that as i can now run for 8km and not crawl at the end of it.

Nice one 😊, I know what you mean with the heat - I sometimes head straight for the shower and do the stretches there!

Well done on not giving up and getting to 8k but sorry to hear you had the shakes. Hope you’re feeling better now.

Oh dear...you're the second one of us this week to be effected by the cold! Glad your other half took good care of you 😊

It doesn't feel quite so bad when we're out there as we're all hot from running.

Glad you got your run in regardless, well done on the 8K...I'm off out now and think I'll check the weather to make sure I dress sensibly.👍
