It has been two weeks since I last ran! Lots of reasons - visiting family, extra hours at work, illness and just worn out! Today I was determined to get out for a run so despite feeling weary when I woke this morning I got out of bed and straight into my running gear (I find this a good strategy!). Off we went, lovely and quiet on the road and calm, dry weather - just perfect. Always best to start off nice and slow, especially after a couple of weeks of no running - so that's what we did, although Squiggy always wants to go faster of course As soon as we get to the beginning of the trail Squiggy is off the lead and busy looking for squirrels and birds. I was feeling good, just jogging along and enjoying the beautiful Autumn colours. Not really an adventure - well not yet! On the way back I spotted a cyclist coming towards us wearing very bright yellow jacket and helmet. It was my other half! It wasn't a run day for him but he decided, after I had gone out, to join us rather than sit at home! So that was a nice surprise He continued on past us and caught us up a bit later. Squiggy was busy charging up and down the track rushing into the bushes and trees then suddenly he appeared out of a bush with.....a pigeon!! He was so pleased with himself and trotted along, tail up showing off his 'catch'! I decided to continue along the track for a while and when hubby caught us up he assisted in extricating the said pigeon from a rather grumpy and growly spaniel!! After that excitement Squiggy had to stay on the lead for a while longer then he was off again and trotting alongside the bike. I am such a good boy!
In the photo I am wearing my birthday present. An Aonijie running backpack. Running with the dog and extending my distances means extra kit as well as water. This one was suggested by someone on the forum, ages ago. It is fantastic, I love it. Lots of little zipped pockets for small items like keys, gels etc. Two larger pockets for bottles. I bought a soft bottle with a drinking tube/straw and it works very well, just taking little sips. There is also room in the back section for a water pouch/bladder as well as an extra layer, food etc. Very light and comfortable to wear and very reasonably priced
Anyway, I am rambling on! Just so pleased to be able to enjoy a lovely 10k today. Happy running everyone

That’s the exact same hydration vest that I have SS. Great aren’t they? I used my loads whilst working up from 10 miles to HM this summer. 👍
I love the look of your beautiful trail. I have lots near me, but they’re all really hilly. That’s fine for a short run, but too much for my little pins to make a longer route.
Squiggy sounds like such a character! Isn’t it fantastic running with our 🐕🐕? ❤️ Nice that you had your hubby along too. Great run all round! 🏃♀️🏃♀️
Perhaps it was you that did a post about it a while back! I am making good use of it already, it is amazing what you need to carry when running with a dog! Yes, he is a character! We are so lucky to have the old railway track to run along, very pretty and mostly flat. I do have to make myself find some hills on some runs!
Possibly me, I don’t know. I was recommended it by a lady on the park and ride bus on the way back from the Bristol 10k and I did recommend it to a couple of people. Anyway, whoever it was, they’re great aren’t they - and very comfy. 😀
What a lovely route, being mostly flat too. My flat long route is also very muddy and puddly, as I’ll be discovering in the morning! 🙄😅
Wow well done skysue16 ...sounds like you had a great time...errrr, apart from the pigeon part!!! I would've died!! At least hubby was there to assist, it's a good job he got motivated and followed you!!! I love your backpack...there are never enough pockets and zips for us are there but that looks just the ticket!! I don't take water with me, ever but sometimes, when I'm aiming for 10k I wonder if I should because it might stop me from flagging??? I just can't bear carrying a bottle so I might just invest in something like this myself and see how far I can run when I take water with me...thanks for your post, you've got my fire up for more distance now!
I am used to Squiggy catching wildlife! He is so fast and stealthy that he even caught a squirrel once, slower moving things don't stand a chance! Yes, the backpack is great. I never used to take water even over 10k and when we lived in Scotland it was never hot enough to really need any! But this summer I found it very warm even early morning. The soft bottle is really good I didn't notice I was carrying it.
Aaah that really is a lovely photo Sue, so nice of hubby to turn up and capture you on your trail path. This must have been before the pigeon incident. The backpack looks briliant and I like your pink jacket too.👌👌

Looks just like one of my trails in France...but round the corner the Hills begin! Love your spaniel....I have 3 of them! The pigeon incident is so familiar....and rabbits and bambi....thankfully my doggies usually get outrun...probably helps me screaming at them like a fishwife!
What a great run for you and Squiggy. You run in such a pretty spot. I can just imagine how proud Squiggy was of his find. He must have been quite miffed to give it up 😆
Yes, he loves running with us. Yes, the vest is very useful especially when carrying all sorts of things like doggie bags, treats, lead, phone etc etc!
A lovely run with squiggy. I was recommended that hydration vest by cheekychipmunks too. It was great in the summer when increasing to 10 miles. It’s better than trying to fit everything into a flipbelt on long runs.
