Soaking wet, advice with gear?

So I ran the 3rd run of week 3 juju’s magic plan this morn. Soaked! 44 mins run complete though 😍

My jacket is great for windproof but def not waterproof enough for today’s rain, any suggestions? Links to jackets? I like fitted, very light with tight hood and pref thumbholes..and not dear. Not asking for much eh 😂

Also waterproof socks, where from? Any links?

I’ve put newspaper in my trainers so thanks for that tip!

Great you've now completed wk3 of getting to 10k.

I just get wet so I haven't bought a waterproof jacket but thought this might be useful .

Congratulations on week 3 complete. Sorry I cant help with rain proof, I've been lucky to have only 3 damp days since I started in August- who knew the Scottish highlands were so dry - I'm east coast, west another story entirely. Happy running

Yea I’m Belfast, very west coast of Scotland!

Hope you find a suitable jacket - treat it as an essential rather than a would like. 😀

Belfast. Go to decathlon or the large Go Outdoors shop up there, sports direct too. Don't go for the most expensive stuff either, Decathlons own brand is just as good, also Karimor is good, its avaliable in sports direct and isn't to pricey.

Good luck and take care.

Don't buy a bike! I can confirm it's much colder and more uncomfortable to be wet when wearing a bike 😢🤣. At least when I run and get wet I'm generally still warm. Even my supposedly breathable and waterproof lightweigh Nike jacket - which I do quite like, and do wear when it rains - gets wet inside by the end of a long run. Whether it's rain or sweat or both I can never quite tell.

I will not buy a bike 😂

Waterproof gear will raise your body temperature to not very comfy level, you'll sweat more than in July. Soo. Option a) get wet, option b) don't run in the rain.

😂 I like running in the rain so it’s a) for me. Didn’t realise that about waterproof gear, interesting!

This is a bit long winded but I basically spent the past few weeks going to all the outdoor & running shops to try on waterproof jackets. I can now report back my findings: 1) Any jackets suitable for running with good breathability and waterproof rating (at least 5000mm for the british drizzle) costs from £150; 2) Many jackets will advertise as 'water resistant', the best ones will be both water resistant and waterproof, with taped seams and use special waterproof zips; 3) Very few waterproof fabrics will not let water sink in if you wear a backpack or anything with weight over the jacket.

Based on this, my choices came down to Inov8 Raceshell jacket £150, Ronhill Momentum Afterlight jacket £75, Gore R5/R7 Shakedry jacket £260 and Gore R3 jacket £180. The Ronhill one looks great but it's only 'water resistant, so I went for the Gore R3 at Blacks clearance sale for £108

Running shoes, waterproof jacket, MP3 player... This whole running business has turned out a lot more expensive than I was expecting! 😂

I just get wet, previous experiences walking in waterproof jacket just resulted in the run off getting legs wetter, so why bother🤣.

At least when you are running you are warm.
