Finally got up to running 10k few times and then gynae op 1.5 weeks ago stops me in my tracks! Consultant says 6 weeks at least till can start running again. Missing my runs and worried going to go backwards and turn into a slob again and pile on the pounds! Anyone been in same situation and how did they get back to running again?

Hope you have a speedy recovery. You've got this far, take gynae advice and rest, but stay on this forum supporting others to remind yourself how much running does for you. When you restart go gently on your body so as not to have a further setback. Take care. X

Most runners have periods when they can’t run for several weeks either because of injury or, in your case, post-op recovery. If your consultant says six weeks then it’s six weeks. Don’t even think about going back earlier or you’ll risk a relapse and a longer recovery time.

I’ve been off for months at a time but you know what? I’ve always got back to it and your body remembers and the roads/trails will be still be there.

Keep popping on here and plan lovely new routes ready for your return. When you are ready, just ease back into it. Come here nearer the time and ask for advice on specifics.

Life gets in the way at times- you are not alone!😄 I have had big chunks of time out with a back injury ( not running related).

The important thing is to honestly listen to your body as you phase in gently. I have used parts of (or all of) C25K as a gradual way back & adapted it according to what my body tells me! 😄 - Which might be anything from ...

“Wheee! This is great!” 😄 to...

“What ARE we doing?!” 🙄

6 weeks isn’t so bad, you won’t lose much fitness and it’ll soon return. When I was last injured I worried about losing it to... then when I came back I just figured it had to be a lot easier than after my previous 30 year break from running, and it was almost like I’d never been away as soon as I started to run, and actually took a lot of my resolve to stop short and allow my ankle to strengthen up... wasn’t so long before I wanted to stop as soon as possible!

Follow the doctors advice and count down the days to that wonderful comeback run.
