This was going to be a quicker 10 miles over my hilly route. Sadly some idiot stopped the watch at 16.04k instead of 16.1π. I must have been delirious! Operation rationalisation! I am pleased that I have managed to up my (nearly) 10 mile pace despite the hill start and it came at the end of an awful couple of days. I just had to get out and run and I now have that post shower glow which usually ends in my dropping asleep post run. I knew towards the end that I was in range of sub 2 hours and even did a "sprint" finish, and all on just one late morning bowl of porridge and a cup of tea! The final spurt was partly a reflection of the impending closing time at the cafe. I just made it for my usual coffee and brownie apres run! I look forward to reading about all my wonderful VRBs adventures at the GSR on Sunday and Tasha99 in York; note for GSR ; just don't forget the number of Ks in 10 miles! π€‘ π
Spot the deliberate mistake!!π¬: This was... - Bridge to 10K
Spot the deliberate mistake!!π¬
Oh noooo BC! Thatβs the sort of thing Iβd do! π π Amazing time though. Bet youβre pleased with that, and I donβt blame you sprinting for your coffee and brownie. Imagine if youβd have been a couple of minutes late and the cafΓ© had been closed - the horror! π©π
Thanks for the good wishes for Sunday. Iβm so looking forward to seeing my VRBs there. Just a mini gentle trot for me tomorrow to stay limber. πββοΈπ
Thanks CC. Of course if I hadnβt stopped the clock I would have reached the cafe a few seconds earlier π. I am sure GSR will be just wonderful. Portsmouth (?) wonβt know what has hit it π₯πΎπππ₯
Well done Beachcomber66, how wonderful that you did a 10 mile to give us the confidence for Sunday. I havenβt gone that far for a month now so Iβm hoping that I didnβt peak too soon and that the crowd will carry me along on Sunday .
It will be great to see my running buddies again too.
The point is I didn't π. I have been building steadily towards another HM so this was just the next step on the way after last week's 12.5k. I don't care about the distance mistake bit really; all about building up stamina before I get too old (seriously) and learning how to manage hills. Good way to lose a kilo and a half though! I couldn't run at the same time as GSR because I am trying a new park run on Saturday. Whatever....looking forward to reports of he big day πππππ
But you did. Your warm up would have covered that shortfall. That time is great.
Have a great parkrun on Saturday. Itβs nice to try a different one every now and then, and it will be your best time. π
All just about gradual improvement. I think Redcar is pretty flat but with a few tight turns. May have to get the elbows out! Think I should move house; all the fun happens further south π. Leggings weather up here today! π¨
Haha, oops, I thought you meant then squiggle on your map but yeah, a little short. But faster... well done you!
Yes no-one would want to stop 0.06km short of the finish on Sunday!π
Great almost 10 mile time Beachcomber! And with hills.
Enjoy your parkrun on Saturday and thanks for the good wishes for Sunday. As Cheeky and I are staying with Dexy and Stanley on Saturday night, you can imagine what weβre going to be like π€¦πΌββοΈ I think Iβll go by the finish line to make sure I do the full 10 miles πππ
Good plan Sandie π€ maybe I should try it. Must be a high risk of starting Sunday with a hangover!! It will be a blast π
We are going to be sensible π
Yeah right!
π and me
Hmm.....wonder who will win the Miss Legless award! Won't speculate for fear of giving offence π₯π₯π₯
Ye of little faith π
Borne of vast experience ...just jealous because I am β no booze allowedβ ! Drinking Rioja with my daughter was one of lifeβs great pleasures...we sat through a lakeside tornado warning determined that none would go to waste!!
Oh no, thatβs a bummer! One of the things I am so looking forward to is a G&T or a glass of wine to break my self imposed booze ban while Iβve been on my 28 day challenge! I could have had one on Monday, but I am waiting until tomorrow and then in strict moderation π·
Thanks so much! If I get through it, Iβll be sure to post!
Well done on your run too btw!
All I can say is β Thatβs impressive β. I would LOVE to be pinning that post ππ»
Looking at your 10k time you could beat my effort easily. Just a question of building up gradually. I think that the improvements get easier as you increase distance. 10k to 10 miles was much easier than 5k to 10k. Just go for it π
Iβll give it my best effort π
Sure that you will. Only change I made was upping the daily strength exercises. Nice dog by the way π
Sadly Pippa died last year but we have a new mini schnauzer puppy called Sadie. Iβll post her pic at a park run. What leg strengthening exercises do you? I saw you mention this in a reply.
My exercises came from a physio after I did a bit of damage to my calves through letting strength lag behind increasing distance. You can google them all; mine include star balance, eccentric heel dips, one legged calf raises, tip toe squats, hops, jumping from leg to leg, two leg jump with single leg landing, ankle stretches with a band, crab walk with band and lunges! Seems to work,Takes about 20
minutes. I guess everybody has different needs though.
We should arrange a VRB meet up in the north east. Elfe5 chrisallen76 are up here. Know any more?
No. I know other runners but they are not on the site. They are all lifelong runners and very accomplished, but supportive. I met a lady in the cafe the other day and she was wearing a Hardmoors Top.
The hills they climb! Nothing to say but βrespect!β
Iβve just missed a 10k hardmoors did to my knee. Got roseberry half in December but not sure Iβll be able to do it! And Wainstones half next May! Youβll have to do one ππ½ Everyone needs a hardmoors tshirt!
This hill work is part of the build up to trying to do some of these harder runs, however slowly. I will have to do one on my own to convince myself it is possible.
You can stop on these type of runs ππ½ ideal π€£
Come to this. Thereβs a 5 and a 10 miler, Iβm doing 5 to test the knee.
runnation.co.uk/r/run-durha...
Part of the problem. I am obsessed with running the lot! I think that I will have to compromise on that to get the best out of the moors though.
I think itβs what lots of people feel to start. Get yourself up Roseberry. Youβll get over it then π€£π€£π€£
If I could I would! My diary is pretty easy at weekends, unless one of our UK brood is home..coming in two weeks time. Is Hamsterley tough Tasha?
Iβll come π Have campervan, will travel!
Seriously impressive, even with an infuriating senior moment. What a nuisance! I found my recent 6km harder than I think I should, so you make my running seem to be in positively beginner territory. Oh well! It is lovely to see the progress of the others in the same cohort. Well done to you! And the pace! And the hills! Is your Garmin giving you an encouraging VO2 max for all this great running?
VO2 max likes long very slow runs (so low average heart rate) or quick (for me) 5ks. It hates the local hill runs ( maybe it measures heart rate v pace ...so it thinks I am less fit ) or quicker long runs. So Park Runs have raised VO2 max, but incorporating hills in longer runs has cancelled it out. Best VO2 max was on holiday in the Isles of Scilly. Slow hilly Runs (but not as steep as the local ones) worked well, but we walked miles everyday too. A two week workout!
Fascinating! You know that you are getting fitter but Mr VO2 max obviously hasn't caught up! I hadn't spotted all the patterns that you've noticed. Mine is being ridiculously kind to me and telling me that I am in the top 5% for my age group! Have to take any positives on offer, particularly as I shall become another year older tomorrow!
Happy birthday for tomorrow!! Seeing patterns is part of my dna! Very useful!π
Forget my senior moment comment, I have stopped running various times forgetting what I was aiming for, but the reasoning of various repliers here put you at the 10 miles no problem! I realise you are trying to slowly build up, improve, progress and I reckon you are more than hitting the mark. Well done again! ππ½π
Happy birthday over61. At least you donβt have to change your name again this year.
πΎπ₯π°πππ₯³πΉπΈπππ
Lol! No, my name choice had to last a while as apparently, we are only allowed two name changes in total.
Thank you for your birthday greeting and have a really fantastic day on Sunday. Your running ability is miles on from mine, I am so seriously impressed with you and Beachcomber66 among many others, I have rejoined the primary school department, but happy to be having a go and hopefully building my fitness.
I wonder how your excitement/ butterfly levels are doing!?
Thatβs kind , but I probably wouldnβt be running this distance without the help of the forum. Iβm excited about seeing everyone, but not feeling totally confident about the 10 miles at the moment. But Iβm sure Iβll be fine once I start running.
I will certainly be reducing my miles after Sunday. I like my 10ks.
You have run the ten miles before, you've done all the preparation and you'll have the excitement of the event to carry you through. Enjoy it as much as you can! Won't it feel amazing crossing the finish line and meeting with forum crowd!? All the very best to you for a great day! πββοΈπππ»ββοΈππ»π
Been there done that. Usually mixing up time in units of 60 seconds with the kilometres in decimals. Have stopped at 6.3k before now thinking Iβve done 6 and a half. The cursing has been extravagant!
But bar the slip up fine work on your part!
Well as long as we're rationalising:
1.
If you're going to four significant figures it's actually 16.09 km. 16.04 km is 99.69% of that. 99.7% accuracy is good enough for most people most of the time
2.
GPS is only accurate to within 10m for any given location so a total discrepancy of 50m over a run of that length isn't much.
3.
The missing 50 metres would take 23 seconds at that pace so you'd still be within the 2 hours for the exact distance. In fact as long as you didn't fall over while stopping your watch you probably walked more than 50 metres after that before the 2 hours were up.
Basically you ran ten miles in two hours. Don't let anybody say you didn't I ran 16km and claimed my 10 mile badge, nobody's taking it off me!
Lol, what's 0.06K between friends!π
A hilly 10 miles, wowee...you really earned that brownie ππ , hope you enjoyed your nap too π΄
Donβt worry about GSR Beachcomber - Iβll be watching closely to make sure thereβre are no slackers!
Iβve just had an email with a special dispensation from the pope: he says it counts as 10 miles. Enough said!
