First bling

I signed up for my first race and did a 7K around some Paris monuments in a time of 1:01:32.

The cobblestones were hard to run on and it was a bit hot but I am reasonably pleased with the time.

I'm not overly fond of the medal shaped like cowboy boots but the theme this year was the Far West, which is why some people in the picture walking to the start have indian headbands lol.

Haha, fun thing to do though and no idea how you’d run on cobbles... with difficulty I’d imagine ;-)

they were a bit irregular and not all the same height, had to make sure I picked my feet up so as not to trip lol

Well done on running what sounds like the most dangerous run that you have have ever ran, cobbles are horrible to cycle on, let alone run on, so glad that you didn't sprain your ankle.

Thanks Al - it wasn't too bad as long as you picked your feet up

You should be so proud of yourself on your 7k run and a nice medal to show for it. Well done you 😊😊👏👏

Thanks, I would have liked to come in under an hour but I am reasonably happy for a first experience

Very well done! If you can run on cobblestones you can run on anything.

Have to say that’s the most bizarre medal ever!

It is a bit strange, it looks like a children's plastic thing, but it's definitely metal

Stephen_UK profile image

You have to wear it for the rest of the day. Those are the rules.

backintime profile image
backintimeGraduate10 in reply to Stephen_UK

I haven't even put it on once - there was no way I was wearing it on the train, I was embarrassed enough wearing my sports stuff on the train

Well done. 👏🏼 Very adventurous, I’d say for a first go. 🎉 You’ll be able to say casually, “Well, when I ran on the cobblestones in Paris...!” 👍😄 Fantastique!

haha

thanks, I'll just drop it into the conversation from time to time :)

Well done on your first race! A 7k in Paris on cobblestones with a cowboy boots medalist a pretty unique race. 😊

Wow BIT that must have been a unique experience! Imagine how you’ll fly along on pavements now! 😀

Bizarre shape for a medal, but hey it’s great bling and you earned it! Well done you. 👍👏🏅

thanks, it was a good first experience - slightly badly organised - nearly 2 hours in the "departure" area not being able to run and warm up - around 40000 participants. The winner won in 23 minutes - that is flying lol

Well done! Cobblestones certainly sound like a challenge to the ankles, but you ran a great time. Hey, bling is bling 🏅Hopefully the first of many.

Thanks Sandie

It was definitely a new road surface for me. It made it harder but it was good experience

You’ve got a (short) cobblestone challenge coming your way in October, you know 😀

Oh no! I haven’t looked at the course yet. Maybe I should

That's brilliant! I haven't dared enter something like that yet but I did 7k this morning in a very similar time. Who knows, maybe I might have a go... And yes, with you on the bling. How odd is that?!

backintime profile image
backintimeGraduate10 in reply to Gwenllian1

You should do it. It is definitely an experience worth having. No cut off, no pressure. The walkers left after us so there were thousands bringing up the rear. Find a "friendly" event and just experience a big race.

Well done! Hope you were wearing a cowboy hat?! I remember you umming and ahing about whether to go for this race - hope you're feeling pleased that you gave it a go.

backintime profile image

It was worth the experience. As I said, a bit badly organised...we waited nearly 2 hours in our departure station and it was too busy to do much other than jump a bit and a small jog on the spot for a warm up

Yay! Well done you!! That must have been really hard to run on the cobblestones 😬 I have visions of you gamboling along like a spring lamb over them! Hope your ankles are ok!

What an amazing run to have done. And, I bet you won't meet many - if ANY - others with that same medal!

backintime profile image

I bet you find lots of them on ebay 😂

I never gamble like a spring lamb...I am a definite tortoise lol
