Helloooo everyone! Hope you had a good summer. I haven’t caught up on a months worth of posts here, but have seen a few stories of ever increasing distances and decreasing times.

Despite the best of intentions, ie. taking running shoes and Garmin on holiday... a month passed in a blink of an eye with no running. To be fair, I was camping, travelling, climbing, walking, scrambling up and down cliffs, swimming, surfing and so on... (also a bit of drinking and the odd fag πŸ™Š) but it isn’t running. My tan and smile are blinding, but legs, lungs and Vo2 max have all taken a dive.

I knew the comeback run would be painful and it wasn’t pretty. I seem to forget how to pace myself after two days of no running and sure enough, after a month off it was a shambles. Further distracting me was my 9 year old son who I levered off the couch to come with me as β€˜training coach’. He chatted merrily the whole way on his bicycle: β€œmummy, daddy said if a Nuke hit Canterbury it would reach us here, is that right?”; β€œmummy, I don’t think I have seen a frog in a clear pond. Have I?”; β€œmummy, look, squirrels. Look mummy!”; β€œmummy, why do people drop litter out of their cars”; β€œmummy, does a fast heart rate mean you are healthier because mine felt slow this morning” etc etc etc. It was relentless. I definitely wasn’t conversational and had to pause a couple of times to give a proper reply! Bless him. I feel very lucky, just wish I was a bit fitter so could enjoy the chatter more!

3k felt really hard so I feel like a complete fraud posting in Bridge. But I’ll stick around because you are all an inspiration. πŸ™‚

Reading your post made me laugh.

I know what I felt like when I took a week off. It took a few runs to feel like I had never been away. Hopefully your breathing and legs will catch up with you soon , I'm sure they will. Well done you 😊😊

Well done for getting back out there. I’m sure you will be back to your usual self in no time.

It is challenging running with little ones but they do make you smile which helps to distract us from gremlins etc. My granddaughter was so far ahead of me last week, chattering away I missed most of her gems! I had to keep asking her to wait for nanny. She said I ran as fast as mummy walks! Cheeky!! 😊🀣

Cheeky indeed, coming from their speedy bicycle seats! Bless them 😊

Love your post ktsok. You still got out there after a month, anyway holidays and family take precedence. Welcome back! πŸ‘

Thanks lexi. No regrets, it was a fabulous break. Time to get back to the routines though... dare I say it, I’m quite looking forward to some autumnal running 😳

Haha πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ that's so funny! We've just had little people stay (5 year-old and 3year-old) and they were exactly the same, all those questions πŸ™„

But you're back and still running, that's all that matters.

They are curious, the little folk, that’s for sure. And reveal the depths of ones ignorance in all manner of subjects. What does split the atom mean? Errrrr. Well... 😳

A funny run is better than no run! Won't be long before you're heading back to 10k, I'm sureπŸ‘

But what a fantastic summer you’ve had ktsok! Too hot to run anyway - you spent quality time with your family. That’s priceless. ❀️ Plus it doesn’t sound like you’ve spent much time sitting around doing nothing! πŸ˜…

Now gorgeous autumn running is almost upon us. 🍁 You’ll be back to 10k in no time. Enjoy it. πŸ‘πŸ‘Š

Camping, cliff-scaling, climbing, swimming = cross training!

Or happy training 😊

I find giving really, really, really... long explanations stops the 20 questions interjections. And when they walk away you say 'hold on! I haven't finished yet!'

Works a treat! 😁😁😁

Brilliant. Not sure I can enact that tactic whilst running though!

Ps. My child never comes to me with the β€œI’m bored.” He knows he’ll get a β€œGreat! The hoovering/lawn/washing up needs doing!” πŸ˜‰

Sounds like a wonderful holiday and how nice to have all that family time. Your little fella sounds like a live wire, they never seem to get too puffed out to ask questions πŸ˜†

Well done on getting back out there, you'll soon get your fitness back and 3K is a pretty good start πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ‘
