Recovery update - back to 7k

Well, my recovery plan is going well - I've got back up to 7k with no problems and, actually, considerably less achilles pain than I've had before. I wonder if I just needed to rest from running for a short time and focus on strength work...?

The other reason I think that I needed a rest is that I'm running faster than ever! My Garmin told me that during today's run I ran my fastest ever 5k - and I wasn't trying to go fast at all... just bimbling along really. Interesting... so I'm hopeful of getting 5k under 30 minutes by the end of the year.

All looks well for the Southport 10k in September... fingers crossed I won't be having any further probems… it's becoming easier to run the more weight comes off and it's so much less stress on my joints and ligaments! I tried an interesting experiment at the gym and picked up a 27kg dumbbell.... I could hardly lift it! Imagine having that strapped to you and then trying to run! Madness.

Hope all you guys are doing fabulously. I'm sorry I've not been keeping in touch... still struggling in my personal life but recovering. Certainly getting out into the fresh air for a run is helping me keep things in perspective.

Happy running everyone!

Hurrah you are back! I wasnt going to message you tomorrow if I hadn’t heard from you. That is blinking fast! Seriously impressive and great to know how your strength exercise helped it along. I think a ling detail post is needed :-) I want to run as fast as you!! Was delighted to see this post

Oh, bless, thank you. I know I've been very absent recently. I'm convinced gettingnproperly.back to running will benefit my happiness as well as my health!

It definitely will! I’m back too after a long absence, going to try and stick to the every other day run pattern as it was great in C25k. Not even going to worry about running more than 30’, will just try and keep it regular

Good luck to you for your forth coming Southport 10k, that could be interesting if you ran it with that 27kg dumbbell strapped to you, however, wiser not to have it, some of the SAS training involves running with deadweights attached to their bodies

Maybe I’m Sas training...

Well done Pianism- absolutely brilliant. The weight loss ,

The increasing speed, it’s all sounding good. Running certainly helps with coping with life’s problems too. Wishing you all the best.

Welcome back! Was beginning to wonder if you’d been beamed up. 😄 glad the injury seems to be on its way out - reward for all that hard work fitness training. We should probably all take a lesson. 👏🏼

And you’ve sure become Mr Speedy. 🎉 You’ll need a gazelle picture soon! 👏🏼

Thank you :) Not quite a gazelle yet... perhaps an Old English sheep dog as, apparently, that's now what I've lost! Haha

It's nice to see you back and with a great update! Sometimes a rest is exactly what is needed. I know my legs are so heavy right now as I'm in the final weeks of my HM training. I'm looking forward to taking a couple weeks off after my race to recharge and reset.

Wise advice. :) Sometimes we have to go slower to go faster.

Nice one. Interestingly I was listening to a coach a bit back who advises virtually no running at the start of his marathon plan... a month of strength work is his focus. Strength makes us less likely to pick up an injury and can also lead to some speed... maybe he was onto something!

Not sure I could do 100yards with a 27k dumbbell... would be interesting to try it in a backpack or something, but I won’t do it at a parkrun... there’s a limit to how long I could keep those volunteers waiting!

Always here for you if you wanna vent... but you’re doing a great job with that perspective and jour inspirational journey that is now resumed.

Thank you. I really appreciate the offer of support. I've been feeling exceptionally lonely and, in my introspection, I'd momentarily forgotten how great you guys are!

Hellooooo. Long time no hear. Glad the strength work is showing results. Well done on your 'wasn't trying' PB. I wonder what time you'll get next time you are trying? Sub 30' I hope. 27kg! You must feel very, very pleased. Well done you. Glad you're back 👍
