Running 5K - TICK!!!

I did it!

I took the opportunity in my parkrun this morning, to get to the magic 5K mark, running from start to finish. I have done 5K, and even longer, with some walking in the middle, but this is my first end-to-end run.

It was a lovely morning at Osterley Park. Sunny, slight breeze. Thoroughly recommend this parkrun, it's flat, dry, nice straights, and paved paths. Also, lovely house and grounds - I have a thing for lakes.

The first km was the worst, as is my way, and I was seriously doubting whether I could do it. But by the time my phone told me I had done 3km, I knew I could do it, so just kept going.

It felt fantastic. And a PB, although only slightly faster as my running and walking paces are very similar.

Being able to run a parkrun all the way is one more achievement ticked off my list.

Now to build up to the next milestone - running 7K around my local lake.

Oh, that sounds lovely. Well done on running all the way, too.

Do you happen to know how easy it is to get to Osterley Park from Earlsfield? I stay with a friend there when I’m in London and last time I went to Wimbledon Common parkrun, but yours looks absolutely beautiful.

About 30 minutes by car, and plenty of free parking. Public transport would be tricky, as the nearest bus appears to be quite a walk away.

Thank you Charliemouse. I don’t have a car when I’m in London so not really feasible, unfortunately, but it does look and sound lovely.

You can do it by tube from Wimbledon, changing at Earls Court. Short walk from Osterley station to the house. Don’t know whether you think that’s easy ...... might take a while!

I’ll look it up and decide nearer the time. I don’t have a trip booked at the moment, but thank you for the info.

I just checked on TFL and it’ll take an hour to Osterley station, so I’ll definitely do it in summer but perhaps not in winter (I don’t like getting up when it’s cold and still dark). Thanks again to you and Charliemouse - it’s certainly on my parkrun wish list now.

You are right. District to Earls Court and Piccadilly. About an hour, including a 20 minute walk at the end.

😀 Brilliant! It's always great to tick another goal off the list, isn't it? Good luck with building that distance up too!🙂

How are you feeling ? It's great that you feel well enough to do it.

I feel great. Legs were a little stiff afterwards, but that seems to be sorting itself out.

My illness is almost gone. Not completely, but apparently enough that I am back running form.

Hope you are enjoying your hols!

Well done on your first straight 5k Charliemouse. It is a great target to reach .

I love Osterley House and have walked around the grounds a few times. That parkrun is on my list for next time my OH plays hockey nearby.

Well done! What a pretty lake - I thought it was my PR when I first saw it, but apart from our lake section ours isn’t flat. 🙄

Well done on completing it! 👏👏👏
