Well....just home now at 1am here. I ran in 30 degree heat and managed 1hour 8mins...quite pleased with that for my first ever race

Gutted I have no bling to show for it...only top 3 get bling.

Already itching to do another....should sleep tonight. Thank you all for the support and good vibes.x

Congratulations, especially in that heat! I don’t run if it’s above 20 degrees so you have my admiration. Here’s some bling from me 🥇🏃‍♀️👏👏👏

Thank you so much Jill.

Congratulations Franglaise on running your first 10k race in 30C/86F heat, like SeejillRun I don't run if the temperature is above 20C, although I might make a parkrun a exception, pity about not getting a bling, at least you now have the word GRADUATE10 🎓 next to your username, just hope that your next 10K is ran in cooler conditions.

Thank you so much....sensible decision on running in chat temperature.

I will have to do that race again though next year to beat my time, if im still in France. Its always that date as its a bank holiday here today...the assumption. Other than this one, I will avoid July and August for events...thank you for the support...enjoy your running.

O I am surprised on your quick response, I thought after the run you would be sleeping, yes, I think it's better to run in cooler weather, however, that particular run is always held on that date in August so you will have to be prepared for it if the weather is again hot.

Congratulations! I knew you’d do well. That temperature sounds truly horrific, though. Hope you feel OK.

Did you resolve the “co-runner conundrum”?

Franglaise profile image
FranglaiseGraduate10 in reply to Stephen_UK

The temperature was energy depleting....the pompiers were hosing people down with hosepipes.

The situation with my friend resolved naturally...we set off quick, sucked along by all the quick runners and she needed a walk at 3k...she said the magic words..."you carry on if you want to" and I wanted to. She didnt bring her water and relied on water stations, which didnt come when she needed, so I shared mine with her to 3k

It was tough and I had to have a few reviving walk breaks....but allowed myself 10 steps then made myself get going again.

Had enough for a sprint finish and raised my results as I passed 20 flagging finishers...including the power walker.

I didnt sleep well at all, all the excirement.

Bit disappointed there was no medal for my first race, not a total surprise as the french dont seem big on that....a lady I know did a 38k trail run and got a plastic cup. Thank you for the vote of confidence.

Sounds like you did brilliantly. And I’m pleased to hear that you found a good solution to running separately.

Heat aside, it sounds like a good event. Spraying the runners is a nice idea. Bling-wise there will be other races to come and medals aplenty, I’m sure.

Hope you have hydrated now and can catch up on sleep later.

Need to hydrate well today and maybe find a river for picnic and swim in a shady spot...catch up on jobs tomorrow.

Huge well done Franglaise! Shame about the bling but you know there’s loads of it coming from your vrbs! So glad it all went well for you!👏👏

Thank you. I was wondering what i was doing at 48 years old competing in my first race ever, being shoved by some very tall athletic looking people, when I was waiting in the baking sun to set off. I now wish i had found running years ago.

Thank you...its my pb for 10k just realised. If i hadnt had a few little walks it would have been better but i needed them. I now have a time to work on.

Many congratulations😊. And in that heat. I managed my first 10K (non-race) a week ago and it took me quite a lot longer and in cooler English conditions!

Franglaise profile image
FranglaiseGraduate10 in reply to Notsoslothfulnow

This was my pb...my others were around 1:15. Looking forward to some northern England running at Christmas....thank you....you are doing great. To run 10k is a massive achievement in itself.

Well done!!! I don’t know where in France you are but September 14th is town run day in Céret, south of Perpignan. Choice of 6km in the hills (that’ll be mine) or 20km in steep hills (don’t !!!!). Look it up.

PS did you need a doc’s cert to run in France?

Franglaise profile image
FranglaiseGraduate10 in reply to HeavyFoot

Sorry....just spotted your comments....missed that race but sounded good.

Yes to the medical certificate in France which costs 25 euros and lasts a year.

Thanks for the info

Hi, Just had a little read. Belated congratulations! Brilliant and in heat too!🏆🥇🎉

I was squirted at by lads with hosepipes on a warm June evening during my only race so far. I thought it was such great fun! Me, then 62, running along and enjoying lads squirting water at me. I called out, 'Get my face! Get my face!' How mad does this running make us!? Well sometimes.
