Well, I missed Parkrun πŸ₯Ί I didn't get a lot of sleep last night because of OTHER people's shenanigans.. who needs enemies when you've got drunk friends?

So I decided to go for a nice long run today! Water bottle, great music and off I went. Bliss, really enjoyed it. However, I tried a new route and got lost and with 2-3 km to go, I ended up at the bottom of the biggest mountain in Hertfordshire.. I didn't even know they had mountains in Hertfordshire but here it was πŸ™„ I just gave up at 9km, I couldn't do anymore climbing.

I was happy, but a long way from home.. So I put on C25K "Welcome to week one of C25k" I did it to get home a bit faster... I absolutely loved it! I think I'm going to do it after every long run, or after every 'disappointing' run just to remind me of how far I've come. I lOVE that I have that to cheer me up, some perspective. I still remember how hard that was.. Brilliant.

Oh, and they've put some exercise equipment in my little local park! It's awesome, pull up bars, dip bars, monkey bars... REALLY happy with that. 😁

Happy Running

Lovely report, Clubberlang. Hope you can catch up on some well-earned sleep.

in reply to Stephen_UK

Yes, I had a lovely sleep this morning. I really wanted to go to Parkrun but that bed was just far too comfy this morning. πŸ˜‚

Oh you just gave up at 9km did you πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ that's amazing. Funny you should mention the exercise equipment, a park in my area has done it as well

in reply to Buddy34

Interesting! πŸ€” It's a great idea, I see loads of people using them.

sounds like a fun run :D

we have lots of exercise equipment down by the river

in reply to backintime

The problem is... I can't do one pull up 🀣 Well I can, but it's a struggle. I'm good at everything else, but I just can't do pull ups. I'll have to go down at night with a head torch πŸ˜‚

strength and flex promises to get you doing pull ups :)

Yeah, I need to venture over there πŸ’ͺ

Good run for you today clubberlang, I sometimes for oldtimes sake put the C25K app on and run one of the longer runs, last Wednesday I had run 3 of week 5 with Laura, although today I ran a 7K with Mapmyrun and Alexa telling me the distance, pace etc, next Wednesday 3 days before parkrun I'm going to put the C25K app with Laura on run 3 of week 9, a little reminder of my πŸŽ“ graduation run. πŸƒ 😊

in reply to AlMorr

I'm glad I'm not the only one Al, It was nice to hear MJ's voice again! 😁 I really enjoyed C25K, good memories.

Blooming Mother Nature, sticking blooming mountains all over the ruddy shop! πŸ˜‚ Sounds like a great run, even if it was "only" 9k, you've come a long way baby!

in reply to Debston

😁 9k still feels like a LONG way to me. That wasn't easy, I'm always just happy to get past 5K.

You should’ve seen me going over the slight undulations in the meadow today then! 🀣

in reply to MuddledGardener

The runner that went up a slight undulation and came down a mountain.

For me it always seems the other way around when I venture outside, they always seem steeper going up and so very slight to come down

I think any unexpected incline can feel like a mountain. It’s like your legs weren’t expecting it, so why should they run it! If it’s a planned hill, no challenge! Well done on 9 excellent kms nonetheless! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ Hope you slept well.

Right, you’ve reminded me. That’s what I’ll be doing for my graduation runniversary in a couple of weeks ..... I’ll be running with MJ again. Yesss, can’t wait! πŸ˜€πŸ˜€

in reply to cheekychipmunks

Your runniversary!? Yay! Exciting 😁 A reunion with MJ! I didn't expect it to be such an emotional experience, I had a smile on my face but I was welling up. It really does remind you how far you've come, graduates should do it more often.

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply to

Oh I totally agree! I don’t think anybody embarking on C25K for the first time could remotely imagine how far it could take us. I did my first 10 miler for the runniversary of when I started the programme, so I think MJ should be with me when I celebrate the graduation one! No brainer! πŸ‘

in reply to cheekychipmunks

There's no stopping you Cheeky. From that 10k Bristol race to where you are now is absolutely amazing. You'll be doing ultra marathons next year πŸ˜‚

Yes, we have some bars now! Not those ones yet but the pull-up ones πŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺ😁

Oh dear the hills. They’re flippin everywhere. I always find them in front of me when I’ve got a planned tempo run 😩 or at the end of a long, hot run πŸ₯΅. They are very good for us though and cheaper than the gym To make myself feel better when running uphill I put my hand across my abs Ooooh definition right there. Makes me feel much better 😁

I’ve got the Cardiac Hill race coming up Best get practicing 😳

in reply to misswobble

πŸ˜‚ I REALLY wish I had "Ooooh definition right there" abs. I'm just happy I can see my feet again. 🀣 Good luck with the Cardiac Hill race, I look forward to reading your post! I'm sure you'll smash it!

I’ve lost nearly five stones in weight so I know where you’re coming from with regards to seeing your feet again Running uphill is the best and cheapest way I know to shred your mid section πŸ˜ƒ

Sounds like a nice run!

in reply to Snailspeed

It was SS, really nice. I actually like these 'adventure' runs, getting lost. I found a lovely hidden path that takes me into town. You see so much more when you're a runner.

misswobble profile image
misswobbleGraduate10 in reply to

You’re not lost as such, just temporarily misplaced. You soon pick up your route again or orientate yourself to a known landmark. We do get more intrepid though. I used to recce routes with the dog if I was a bit unsure about safety

Oh yes they have mountains that wld make Everest blush! Well that is what they feel like. Maybe I’ll do C25k again to prove to myself that if sometimes I find it hard, I’m still running 50times longer than when I started. Thanks for the idea!

in reply to Couchpotato2

πŸ˜‚ Anything that has you running up for more than 500 metres is a mountain in my eyes.

I really do think graduates should do the occasional week from C25K, maybe W1 or a week they found difficult. It takes you right back, makes you realise how far you've come.

Couchpotato2 profile image
Couchpotato2 in reply to

Yes it’s a good idea. Maybe we can PR inTring, that starts with a km mountain or I was hoping to come over to Dunstable as it sounds like a nice one.

in reply to Couchpotato2

It's about an hour from me, so that's not bad and it looks more scenic than my parkrun. I did take the dog for a run/walk in Wendover Woods once... absolutely gorgeous around there. Interesting πŸ€” I shall look into it.

Couchpotato2 profile image
Couchpotato2 in reply to

There is a park run there too and that’s katiepop’s local run although it looks... steep...

Funnily enough I played Laura on C25K on Friday morning. It is amazing to me when I look back and see how far I have come. I’m slow but steady, and when I started I never dreamed I would be running for 55 minutes ( I’m trying for the 60). After that I will be trying for the 10 K on the magic plan. I have had so much encouragement on the forums, thanks to all !

in reply to Myzinnyboy

It's brilliant isn't it!? Seeing how far you've come. Well the new 10k magic plan starts on the 26th August... And I'll be there, cheering you on! WHOO HOO! πŸŽ†πŸŽ‡πŸŽ‰

Myzinnyboy profile image
Myzinnyboy60minGraduate in reply to

Yes I’ll be trying for the 10 k then.Even if it takes longer than the magic plan lasts!

What hill was that?! I went to the running club a couple of times in January and the first time I was in the newbies group. It seemed to be W1R1 and, like you, I was amazed and just a little smug. Apologies to the two people who were actually newbies!! Always meant to use it (W1R1) as interval trading now that I think about it . . . . . . Decided I’m not cut out for running club.

in reply to Sybilw

It's Martins way in Stevenage... I'm calling it Mount Martin..

I know what you mean about the running club, I like running on my own, I keep saying that I'll join a club but I haven't. I want to do some cross country races in winter, that's the main reason I want to join a club.
