My VO2 max made me smile !

Week 2 of the Magic plan completed this morning by doing 5k and sweating like I’ve never sweated before πŸ’¦πŸ˜“πŸ’¦

Just checked my stats on Garmin and VO2 max has now gone to the green area which means β€œgood” fitness levels and previously fair !

Not sure if really accurate or what it really means but looks like I’m getting fitter and put a smile on my face.

Good luck for everyone starting Week 3 next week - will be my longest run ever of 7k (send help) πŸ˜³πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

No clue what VO2 Max is but well done! Especially in this heat!

Thank you, think it’s about how much oxygen you get and general aerobic capacity etc whilst doing fitness but it’s always nice to see improvement !

Thank you, I keep finding things on my Garmin that never knew was there but when I saw the word β€œgood” then that made my day 🀣 (little things)

It means steps in the right direction; progress without over exerting yourself.....that is what I tell myself when mine increases anyway!!!😊

I find it hard to predict. It seems to like runs which keep the average heart rate down. So I did a really slow 11k over a hilly route two weeks ago and VO2 max went up. Last week I did 12k over the same route in less time it took to run the 11k (so I was feeling good about it) and VO2max went down one. I followed up with my quickest 5k over part of the same route and VO2 max went up again! Keeping average heart rate down, either by going slowly and/or by being fitter was the determining factor. The 12k must have required me to run too close to my limits for Garmin VO2 Max's liking. Anyway, seeing an improvement in VO2 max as meaning that you are headed in the right direction seems about right to me! 😊😊

Thank you for the info as I really have no idea why or when it increases but I’m a slow runner so will stick to that and hopefully it keeps going in the right direction πŸ‘

Vo2Max is a measure of the ability of your body to absorb oxygen from the lungs, and get it to the muscles. The measure given on Garmin watches is a very rough estimate based on length of exercise at various levels of heart rate (as measured, rather badly in my experience, by the optical pulse monitor on the back of the watch). If you wanted a proper scientific measurement of Vo2Max you'd need to go to a sports clinic (and pay about Β£200) for a session on a treadmill with an oxygen mask on. It's not worth it unless you are applying for a professional athlete job.

So now you know.

You are getting better, and that's the long and the short of it.
