I know I have Mr T as my avatar, but unlike him, i’ve never been interested in bling until my time on here. Seeing people post pictures of their bling has corrupted my fragile little mind. Now i’m put off by runs because the medals don’t look good. In fact bling is becoming the deciding factor! Not the location or price; it’s all about the bling 🤩🎖The Hastings HM is a ridiculous choice for me, but I really like the look of the medal. I think there’s something wrong with me. Look at it, we wants it, we needs it... precious. 😫

Oh, isn't that you in your avatar? 😂 That's a mighty fine medal, will the 2019 one be as good? I just heard today I didn't get a place in the first ballot for the London landmarks half marathon in March and can't decide if I am relieved or disappointed! Hmm, might have to Google the Hastings HM... 🥉

I got a "meddle" many years ago that literally put me on the front page of the major newspaper in my place of origin.
It's in a proverbial drawer somewhere in the house.
But - my 5k,10 miler and HM bling hang in full view in my den.
The other I got because I was in a certain place, at a certain time, with certain asserts and skills. In other words - it was by chance.
Those Running medals - I absolutely earned those by sheer willpower, dedication and investment of personal time and effort. 
They do NOT make me "better" than anyone else...however, they do mark the me who is definitely "better than I used to be"
It is not "wrong" to be pleased for yourself or anyone else who has honestly earned something - if you do get that "bling" it'll be because you earned it
Love your outlook on this! I hadn't realised it, but that's exactly how I feel about it.
Haha that is exactly why I entered my first 10km but the bling wasn’t impressive enough. I am looking at races that have good wc and amazing bling

Hi clubberlang you’ve given me an idea- all being well I am going to aim for this too!!! I’m very familiar with Hastings and it will be my runniversary (1st) too!!! Running last night I was contemplating Parkrun so I get used to running with others as I run alone around my field - so March 29th here I come!!!

The furthest I have run so far is 8km.... I saw the bling for a half marathon yesterday and seriously considered entering even though it is only two weeks away, because I loved the medal so much 😂

Do it!!! Hastings is to date my first and only Half Marathon - MutleyShuffle Runsome roseabi and I did it this year. The course is challenging and the atmosphere is fantastic - I'm definitely doing 2020 😁

I have to say, I'm looking forward to a bit of bling (next Sunday, with any luck!). I've never had a medal and even certificates for sport are unheard of... I've proudly kept a hand-written certificate for "Rounders" from junior school!
