Well I wrote about Maffing on my last post and how I was slowing to try to get my average HR down. Got up this morning for my 9k week 7 run, which Id talked myself out of yesterday morning ๐, and I completely forgot all about slowing down. I was just really enjoying the running, didnโt bother looking at the times and just ran.
I knew where Iโd got to on my Tarka Trail run for 4.5k last week ( and then double back to complete the 9k) so I just set off for there and just looked around me at the scenery. It is really beautiful at the moment...lots of wading birds pootling around the shoreline along the Taw. The hedges are a glorious riot of blossoms ( playing havoc with my chest but still lovely) and there are so many birds building nests and courting along the way. Just before I get to the halfway point there is a little small holding on the tight hand side, and they have always had chickens but now they have Pygmy goats too. Very tempting to stop and watch them as they played up and down little ramps that have been built for them but I kept going.
Then i glanced at my watch and thought I might be inline for a PB for my 5k so I kept running for the 5k but didnโt quite make it so I turned round and headed back again towards home.
The rest of the run was pretty uneventful except for the fact that I kept going and realised Iโd done 10k in the end (Iโd forgotten Iโd run to 5k before I turned round) so I then had to take a triumphant redfaced photo, with the backdrop of Castle Mound behind me, to celebrate!! First 10k since my ankle injury last year and a new PB. I shaved 23 seconds of my time.
Whoohoo!! All showered and dressed now ready to enjoy the sunshine again.

Amazing!!!!๐๐๐๐๐. What a fabulous way to accidentally start the day. 10k is all yours. Super proud feeling and hope that glow lasts all week and beyond. ๐๐๐
Congratulations limberlou, it sounds like that was a most enjoyable run for you. And now you get a shiny graduate 10 badge too. Whoop whoop, I hope you are celebrating ๐ฅณ๐พ๐ฅ๐โ๏ธ๐
I would be celebrating but have a nasty headache ( too much sun and pollen maybe) and nausea so Iโm off for an early night but still smiling to myself in triumph ๐๐๐ฅ
Yes, it is there. Are you going to do it again? I worked back up to 10km again after my first one. Now I can run 9 or 10km without worrying about it. It's a nice feeling ๐๐ผโโ๏ธ๐๐ผโโ๏ธ
Yes I want to get to that stage eventually. I donโt think Iโll try to go much beyond but my plan is to be able to do a 5k and 10k in a week and one other run of varying length at least.
Well I fell out walking last June, and sprained my ankle fracturing the outer ankle bone too so that was 3 months , no running...( I did walk a lot whilst convalescing - in my โbootโ for 6 weeks then in a supportive pair of trainers. ) and then Iโd been back running for about 4 weeks gently working through C25k again when I rammed my toes either side of one of my sliding wardrobe doors and dislocated two toes- lots of bruising and pain on weight bearing.
Then I had a bad asthma bout and lots of coughing over xmas and new year, then put my back out moving large plant pots with young fruit trees in...
Then I had a couple of bleeds in my eyes and no running again for a while...
The key is to start again gradually and work up to where you were, not worrying about speed just plodding. Good luck!! ๐ค
Oh my goodness, you have been in the wars, which makes your 10km even more impressive. Hope you are all mended now? Broken bones may continue to ache, but your running should build them up again. Well done for getting back to it each time! ๐
Ai yi yi! Hope Iโm not competing for the injury prize - think youโve got it in the bag. ๐๐ฑ. Youโre even more of a shining example than I realised, so thank you and I will DEFINITELY take everything steady! Just dusted off my bike, as Iโve been told I can go back to that, so: progress, and I will not moan!
Hope your good streak continues unabated. ๐๐๐ผโโ๏ธ๐จ
Thanks!! Yeah I thought about my bike but it makes my bum bones ache ( even with a gel saddle!! - itโs the only area of my body with not enough padding) riding it so itโs only for extreme emergencies ๐คฃ
Well done and congrats limberlou ๐๐ on reaching 10k and beating your PB. What was your time? And how come I see no red-faced picture in front of Castle Mound ๐
I've asked RFC to link you to the page where you can get your new shiny badge from, but you need to visit the page she's linked for you: healthunlocked.com/bridgeto... and say on there that you ran 10k today and need one - she won't be able to do it based on your reply to her comment on your post.
I look forward to hearing how your other runs go and wish you the best with the Maffing. x
Haha yeah I tried to post the pic but it wouldnโt load. It was a dreadful pic as I can never see what Iโm doing with my phone when itโs sunny out so I am always squinting into it when I try to take a pic
Ok just because you've said that I'm going to update my post about the workout I did with what I looked afterwards lol. I'm sure I looked worse than you did after the run. In my last couple of posts, I have had to post and then amend to successfully add a picture, maybe try that? Or it might be the file size is too big so maybe it needs cropping ๐ค
