Why am I doing this to myself? 😩

After my first foray into hills at the weekend, it was β€œin for a penny” and a try out of JogRunSprint. After all the rain we had yesterday, the ground is sodden, so my warm up was past the winery and to the top of that hill rather than through the vineyard. First set was great, as it was downhill and I recorded my 3rd fastest 400m. I was heading for a flat bit of road alongside a wood which is about 300m long and I reckoned I could go backwards and forwards a bit. I hadn’t counted on the large chocolate lab which came shooting out of a lane off to the side. Now, I had come across him before when out with Ben and he was a little threatening (why do the french let their dogs roam free?) so decided he may not take kindly to a sweaty, breathless woman staggering past him. Upshot was that my last set was up an incline and my cool down back up that blasted hill. Surprisingly, after a shower, I don’t feel too bad. Happy running πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸ»β€β™‚οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

Hey Sandie!! πŸ‘‹πŸ½ It sounds like you did something different and you’ve got your fastest 400m in the bag! The lab seems to have made it more of an adventurous run than planned for, but the uphill finish will no doubt work it’s magic for future runs in many ways. Well done. 🀩❀️

JogRunSprint is tough enough without going up hill Sandie. Well done you.

Glad you are getting used to the hills, Sandie. Yes, they hurt at times, but almost every uphill struggle has a downhill on the other side. Like Keswick Parkrun, only a gentle climbing 2.5 Km out, but then a lovely 2.5K downhill to the line... (well almost all downhill, for fun they stick in a short uphill section just 1 Km out)

Probably the Labrador thought you were a playmate, not a threat, but it's hard to know in advance - and do you speak Dog in French?

Lovely post,

❀

Ooh, sounds as though I need more hill practice if I’m going to join you in Keswick then! He might have been friendly but I wasn’t sticking around to find out

It is very gentle as hill's go. Ummm... as the hills round here go!

I grew up in Penrith and lived in Cumbria until 2001 and we had a steep hill up to our last house in Kendal. The shock of moving to the flatlands of Lincolnshire, but now I’ve just grown soft!

Brave! I have been doing hilly workouts lately but wouldn't dare combine them with the JogRunSprint! I've downloaded the app for that to try out at some point when I'm going to be somewhere flat! Really seeing progress with the hills and getting a real buzz from it! I can feel my lungs getting stronger and think it is good for my saxophone playing too...added bonus!

Dogs are a worry, I am always wary! Glad you were unscathed! Happy running to you too!

It was quite noticeable that the final set was somewhat slower than the first one! Still very much a hills novice, by I must admit just my usual flat running has helped my singing.

Sounds like a great workout and a new PB in the making when you get back to Lincoln parkrun! πŸ‘

Going to be a little while before I get back to Lincoln - entered the Bergerac 10k at the end of next week though (after considerable expense of getting the obligatory medical certificate required in France!). Back in the UK at the end of June - planning Keswick and Stratford parkruns, then back to France for August. Also planning a little outing to the Wild Wine Run near Loughborough on 15 September with a few VRBs if you’re up for itπŸƒπŸ»β€β™‚οΈπŸ·

Entries aren’t open yet for September but I think you do have to pre-register. I’ll keep an eye out x

Fantastic Sandie! I always hate JRS after the first couple of intervals, then afterwards I feel awesome. I’m going to do some next week. Would have done today, but my bra popped undone yet again (😑) so I changed my plan and did my slow hills instead. Too stubborn to stop and fumble so continued on! πŸ˜…

So, with your hills and intervals, you are turning into an even gazellier gazelle! Go you! πŸ‘ŠπŸ‘πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ‘

Well done πŸ‘πŸ» uphill with Labradors (although when I first read it I thought it said chocolate slab) 🀣🀣🀣

I tried my first foray into the 30-20-10 intervals last night. It was tough!!! I can't imagine trying to do that with hills! I was pleasantly surprised on my interval times though. I'm not sure if I'll do this interval workout every week, but will definitely work it into the mix. Why oh why do people let their unsocial/aggressive dogs run free 😑?!? And of course those are the people who also claim "he'd never bite you" as they're trying to take off your leg 😀

Sandie1961 profile image

I’m definitely going to include a variety of things to keep the interest going. I was surprised just how out of breath I was - at my normal pace, I hardly get breathless, so I guess it’s improving my fitness.

Off to Biarritz and the Pyrenees for a week in the van tomorrow and I’m taking my running kit. Hoping for a nice flat seafront promenade. Then back for the Bergerac 10k next Sunday! Hope your leg isn’t too uncomfortable and that you aren’t completely climbing the walls yet x

Oooo that sounds lovely. Have a great week and seafront running is perfect. You will be speeding along πŸ‘. I am in a world of frustration and dependence. It’s only day 2 and I am driving everyone nuts already πŸ˜‚.
