So I arranged to start work a little later and hit the road early. Wearing very little! I was quite shocked at myself; not half as shocked as my flesh, however, which rose up in great hilly goosebumps, every fine hair alert and quivering in shock. Within a couple of minutes, of course, my body realised we werenโt going to get anywhere near hypothermic and we relaxed into a steady rhythm. It was such a relief to be able to breathe through more than just my mouth and nose! I thoroughly recommend baring as much flesh as possible.
I had a plan this time; nose-breathe as much as possible, run the regular circuit, run for 30 minutes without stopping.
I felt comfortable... I tootled along breathing through my nose, absorbing the wind and even enjoying the cooling and invigorating effects. I had put on some folksy music someone I know has written; not my usual fare but I found myself relaxing and enjoying it. The sun was shining and it really felt great to be out.
As I turned for home just past the halfway mark, I had a little delay holding a gate open for someone, then off it was for the last stretch uphill. I looked at my watch at that point and realised I was on target for a 5k PB, which slightly sabotaged my easy run! The last 4 minutes or so were very uphill with three gates and a cattle grid and I was pushing the pace...
I finished just outside my PB and was pretty out of breath for 30 seconds or so, but wow, that was a good run! What a difference a couple of days makes. What makes it even better is that it is now absolutely lashing it down outside so Iโm feeling a bit smug that I got out early.
E27 told me about the Recovery Adviser function. It seems I needed 26 hours rest.
We will see!

Just looking at your stats (obviously not comparing myself to you at all) but you run fast AND you have big strides....... are you really tall? Well done on remembering to dress down, I think we are all going to cook when the summer arrives, especially if it is like last year!
lol! Iโm 5โ3 and a bit, my average stride length was 0.74 today, thatโs the longest itโs ever been yet ๐๐ Think I need to practice stretching my legs!!
I take quite short fast steps I think, and Iโm working on trying to spring โupโ, so the feet are kind of pushing me forwards as opposed to just absorbing impact... and I do work my arm swing... itโs only 14cm difference... whatโs your cadence? I usually average between 170-180 spm...
165spm seems to be my happy pace. But 14cm difference at 165spm is 23 metres in every minute. If we both ran for 30 mins you wouldโve run almost 700m further than me.... so to get my time down as well as upping the cadence a little I need to increase that stride.
Hehe. I just took E27โs word for it but now feel compelled to follow the trail...
So 0.14 metres (difference in stride) x 165 spm (the number E27 takes) = 23.1 metres per minute. Multiply that 23.1 metres by 30 minutes and you get the 693 metres (almost 700) figure.
But... as well as stride length, my spm is greater, so...
Over 30 minutes E27 takes 165 spm @ 0.74 mps (metres per stride) = a distance of (165 x 30 x 0.74) 3,663 metres.
Over 30 minutes kt takes 175 spm @ 0.88 mps (metres per stride) = a distance of (174 x 30 x 0.88) = 4,593.
So thatโs a difference of 930 metres over 30 minutes running.
That sounds like a really lovely run! You certainly can run fast uphill and over gates and cattle grids ๐ฒ Iโm not surprised you were a little out of breath! I couldnโt run that fast on the flat!!! Well done ๐๐ป ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ
Thanks Bridget. Yes, I noticed today that I seem to naturally speed up on inclines; unconsciously I lean into the hill and give it more welly and just dig in. I am absolutely knackered at the top though!
Great running... PB would have gone if not for those gates for sure! As a winter long member of the shorts and t-shirt club, well done baring that flesh! Enjoy that next one.
Fab run, I think you did a bit more than toodle , very speedy . It was a bit like running backwards today at some pints but very exhilarating. ๐จ๐จ๐
