9 months a runner. Can I run consecutive days yet?

I’ve been finding the running hard this past couple of weeks. Well hydrated and not too tired. Not sure why. I managed 6km today, with a break in the middle as I ran in to town, paused Runkeeper then ran home. I tried the C25k+ podcast stamina. I think it is just a bit too fast for me. I might do a 2km 🐌 warm up next time, then start the podcast. I finished on a short sharp hill. I could have walked up it faster! I’m just 2km off my 58km monthly target, but that’s ok, it’s a short month.

So my question is: tomorrow I will have been running for 9 months. Is it ok to run 2 consecutive days now? Obviously I won’t go mad and follow a long run with another long run, but 2 little 5kms back to back? Or my outstanding 2km?

I’m no expert. But in the new year I started running 5 days in 7 when I could. That entailed running consecutive days. I survived.

This weekend I did 5k Friday, 3k Saturday. 10k Sunday.

It may not be right for you but it doesn’t seem to be harming me. Obviously being sensible is the thing. Don’t breach the 10% rule for instance.

I've been running almost a year and am occasionally doing two days on the trot. I did 7k yesterday and another 3k tonight. I've been fine so far. One Saturday I did the park run then a short afternoon run with my sister. I wouldn't do it all the time but I've felt fine.

I'm no expert but it sounds like you could do a couple of consecutive days if you're not doing several long runs. Let us know how it goes. 👍👍😀

I would say go for it and see how you feel. I run two days in a row, and sometimes 3.

If it feels right for you, then do it 😁

I’ve been wondering too Baddie. I’ve been running for just over 8 months and the other day I snook a consecutive day run in for the first time. It felt great.

I think as long as we listen to our bodies and don’t go overboard we should be fine, as long as the distance or speed (haha to the latter in my case) get silly.

It would help me to fit runs in. Also I quite often feel motivate the next day, but not 2 days later.

I started c25k in June, and started running consecutive days a month ago. I run 2 and have run 3 days consecutively. My first run tends to be the longer one with shorter runs on the following day(s). I've been ok . But I listen to my body and rest if I need it.

I read it takes 9 months to 'grow running legs', so I'm hoping I'm there!🏃🏼‍♀️

I've also run consecutive days occasionally and last month did a three day streak! It was a bit naughty and I took the third run very easy, I've been running eight months..

As others have said, listen to your body and hopefully you're also doing strength work to balance things out.

I have been patiently waiting until my one year runniversary to start consecutive runs, after reading advice on here before. Especially now that I've developed a niggle in my left butt cheek, I am going to do extra strengthening and stretching before I go for two in a row. But as others have said, if your body is feeling good you could go for it and see how you get on. Remember to listen to that bod! Have fun 😊🏃‍♀️👍

Ive been running 10 months and have done a couple of cosecutive days, but kept the runs short and easy. I really dont want an injury, so I dont do it unless I'm desperate!

I’ve bern running since last April. Before Christmas I did the run up to Christmas challenge, I ran everyday from December 1st to 25th, it did take it out of me and was really ill most of January, so not doing that again. Saying that, the odd consecutive day won’t do any harm, but don’t overdo it like I did.

Only one way to find out and that's to try it and see how your body reacts.

The important thing is to check your total weekly mileage. If you normally run say 2x 5K's and 1x 10K then you could do 4x 5K's with two of them run on consecutive days with no impact because all you're really doing is splitting up your 10K over two days instead of running it in one hit. Then, all you have to do is gradually increase one run if that's what you want to do.

I ran a 4 day streak three weeks ago and it was fine. I ran 5 days in a row this week from Sunday to today without problems.

I have dropped my effort though and run at 50% of my max heart rate, which works out a lot slower than my usual pace. A recovery day is only necessary if your workout has stressed your body. I plan to take rest days when my resting heart rate (RHR) on waking is 10 bpm above my average. Interestingly, my RHR has fallen since I've been running on consecutive days!

If you make sure you only increase your weekly training load within the 10% rule and never follow a hard run with another hard run, then you will probably be okay.

I think you are ready, just keep to the 10% rule, listen to your body and make sure you mix up the long/short runs :)

Thank you HW. I would like to try a run streak of daily short runs for a week, but with the snow forecast and the pile of things to do at work it won't be this week or next. Have promised myself a massage if I do a 7 day streak. That should get me out there when spring comes back.
