Final week of ‘Run for Fun’ February Quest! How is it going Runners?

Hello runners!

So how’s it going so far this month everyone?

The brighter days are great for us runners............Spring is definitely in the air!!!

So folks, this is the final week of our ‘Run for Fun’ February Quest.

What the Quest is;

The Quest takes one calendar month . You can at join any point during that time.

The aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.

I ask that you will be a Graduate to join the Quest. The main reason I ask this is that while you are completing the programme, your plan is very structured so I wouldn't want the Quest to interfere with that.

Most popular goals are:-

To run three times a week

To slowly increase distance

To train for a specific race

To add In Stretch and Strength exercises

As you can see they are personal to yourself and it's totally your own choice. So if you want to join, all you have to do is put;

I would like to join the Quest, or, count me in and then, I would like to. ..............

Every week of February I will put up a new post and we can have a good old natter together on how we are each doing. Let’s be awesome folks😃

At the end of the Quest, there will be a certificate that you can download to keep should you wish to.

It's all left to do in the final week!

February 2019 has been quite the month and I'm OK with not achieving most of my fitness goals this time.

However, I'm on track to complete my yoga goal of at least 16 days and I am pleased with that.

As well as being busy seeing my father out of life and the work involved after, and my son's Tribunal case, I've had a nasty chest bug which has made running and swimming just plain imprudent. On the mend now. My swimming goal for the month was just to get back in the pool and start a new virtual swim, so that's on the cards for early next week (The leisure centre and especially the pool was my father's second home so that might be a bit emotional). I'm not going to go after the 12k total running but I'm going to aim to get a run in at least.

Weight loss started well, swung all over the place (including to my target for the end of the month) so there's potential for my goal to be achieved but I'm not expecting that. A job for next time.

So i'll be ending February with a hilly 10km race next weekend. I think hills were my November quest so I'm a bit behind ;) I'm a little apprehensive about the race as my knees have been complaining. I ran a hilly (ish) 9km last weekend and a 5km. I'm winding down this week with a 7km run tomorrow and a 5km and probably a strength class and a Pilates class. I was going to run some of the 10km route tomorrow but i've decided not to as it's on road. I prefer to run on forest trails and they are easier on my knees. I'm getting fitter and stronger but I don't want to get injured so I think I'll take it easier. I wonder what my March quest will be ?

Thanks Bluebird. After all the lovely spring sunshine, there is heavy rain and strong winds forecast for Saturday. So my race will be hard work!

Week 3 of the Quest and week 3 of my HM training plan was unusual. Only 2 runs - and interval session and 4.5k. As it was half term I took it easy and had a day out with my nephews.

Managed 2 Pilates sessions took it a bit easy and no strange thigh pains. No swimming but lots of walks in this beautiful spring weather.

Onwards to week 4.

Ooooh, you're doing a HM. Respect! Do you have a HM booked ?

I haven’t been brave enough to book a HM yet. I’d like to get beyond 10k before booking. So far (week 4 of 21) the Long Run will be 10k. I have been doing intervals which I hadn’t done previously so has given my training a different structure.

My month has gone well, consolidating 30 min runs after graduating C25K at the start of the month. Eased up to 35 mins run last week, and today has PB for 1k and 1mile when I did an easy 2k back from dropping the car in for service. Now up to 4.5k in 35 mins and am pleased with that, won’t win any races but hey for my age it’s not too shabby. Was passed by a gazelle on Saturday, but as she looked about 50 years younger than me I could be philosophical about it 😉 Must say it’s rather nice being able to play with new routes, hills and speed without worrying that I should be doing x minutes.

Well it’s been fun....... having started my journey at the end of November it’s brilliant to run in sun, without loads of layers.

Hi Millsie, lovely photo....is it one you have taken, are they real snails?🐌

This week seems to have been full of walks but I only ran once!😐

This was my Speed Challenge 5k though and I shaved a few seconds off my pace which was pleasing...( but hard work)

I had hoped to go out for a Sunday run, but I felt like I had a razorblade in my throat on Saturday night and now have that stuffy/runny ache all over feeling so am resting up.

Hopefully this will pass as quickly as it arrived and I will run again later in the week.

Hi Jan.... yes the snails are real, although I have turned the photo 90’ . As you know I generally use my own photos, but I didn't take this one, my son did, in Columbia late last year...... arnt they amazing!

I am suffering a similar bug Jan..... I am resting up too! Hope you are feeling bettr soon xxx

Oh wow Millsie, what beautiful snails. I’ve always loved them, but since starting running I’ve become even more fond of the little critters. 🐌❤️🐌

I’ve had an odd month really. Started with gusto, but it fizzled a bit towards the end. Plenty of running, but rather bitty. I ran another 10k, have done parkrun (unofficial PB last weekend) and I’ve done some intervals and trails. But I also had a slight cold which knocked me back a little I feel. A few of my runs had my legs feeling like lead, but I never gave up. 💪

Onwards ..... 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️
