Half Marathon Plan... 3rd time lucky🙏

Hey everyone!

I’ve got some confessions 🙈

Last week was a rubbish week & although I tackled a few runs, I totally fluffed the first week of my half marathon training 🤷‍♀️🙄

It started the day I was going for my first run... all ready with my plan of attack, two 5ks per week... one fartlek, one tempo, & a long run at the weekend... I don’t know what came over me, but before I got out the door I suddenly heard a little voice telling me, this will never work... you’ll never stick to it... you need more structure, blah blah blah...

So... bring on the Nike training plan 🙌 I put all my info in & it set me up a great plan, now I felt ready! 🙌 However some weeks, like the first week had 5 runs😱 some weeks had 3... I thought I’d just go for it!

I think I can officially say 5 runs per week is probably far too many for me at the moment!🙈🙄😅

I did enjoy the runs I completed... except the benchmark run... that was awful 🤫 But I think overall it was far too challenging for me 🐌🙈

So here I am today with shiny new... plan number three 🤩 ...It does look much better! 3-4 runs per week & 14weeks till the HM...

I’ve had a super 4k run today & feel like I can do this now! All that is left for this weeks runs is 10k over the weekend & another dreaded benchmark... which I’m thinking of doing on Thursday 😬

Happy running you lovely lot 💛

Get out there & be awesome 👏

Wow - you do like to make life hard for yourself. It all sounds very technical. I liked the Asics plan I got when I was training for my first half marathon - which I was able to input my data. Bits of it didn't work for me, so I adapted it a bit, and was able to slot in my cross training and gym workouts too. It must have been OK as I finished the official race in 2 hours and 3 minutes.

I hope your shiny new plan works well for you. Good luck.

You should join us in the Marathon Running and Race Support forum too. It's there for Half Marathons too , plus you get another graduation badge . :-)

Well done Dreams79. I remember reading about Thundersloth’s benchmark run of running full pelt. An hilarious post. And 5 runs a week? Eeek!

Good luck with version 3 and your onward journey. I’m not sure I’m going to extend much further than 10k , although the 10 mile Great South Run keeps winking at me. Never say never.

Thank you Dexy,

Those benchmark runs are something else... 🙈😅

I think 10k is a brilliant distance, but it’s crazy how tempting it can be to build on it isn’t it... when is the Great South Run? That would be an amazing goal & huge achievement... nudge nudge 😉😉

20 October , so plenty of time.

Equi-geek did it last year just after B210K

Good luck with this version of the plan. I set up a NRC plan yesterday with the option of 2-3 runs a week. I must admit some of the weeks confuse me with very little running but will give it a go and see if it helps with pace.

Happy running.

Brilliant 0505k! Good luck with your plan! 🙌

I feel the same with regards to some weeks having very little running... & some very short runs too!

I’m sure they know what they’re doing tho! 🙌🤞

I’ll look forward to hearing about your journey to HM 🤩

Hi O505k, great to hear you've also setup a HM Nike plan. I have mine setup to 3-4 runs a week, but you do have the option to add more runs. On the lighter weeks where they replace a run with a Nike Training Club workout, I have been adding an extra run and maintaining 4 runs a week when it feels comfortable. I may take advantage of the extra rest days as the distances get longer...!

If you do record an extra run, you can easily edit the run and then apply it to your plan.

Do feel free to get in touch if you have any questions, I may have already encountered the same issues. Happy to share my experience of the app so far.

I hope you find a race around June that you like the look of, it'll be worth earning some nice bling 🏅 after achieving that Half Maraton status - all the best with it!

Thanks, appreciate the support. I’ve spotted the Royal Park HM in October so may apply for that. I do think on the lighter weeks I’ll add an additional run as I really want to maintain overall fitness.

Will be good to compare notes from time to time.

Thanks

One thing that I have found good so far, is if you end up going a bit further on some of the runs, on the days that you might fancy doing a bit more (even by increasing it by 500 meters) the plan will then take this into account and adapt accordingly. I’ve been really impressed with it so far.

One thing is for certain Dreams, and that is you’re absolutely going to smash HM training. 💪 You’ve had a bit of trial and error, and now you’ve found a plan that works for you. 😀

I’m looking forward to reading about your progress and imagining it was me training for a HM - which isn’t going to happen any time soon or even ever! But it’s great watching everyone’s progress! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️👏

Go Dreams! 👊

Will be following you all the way Dreams, and cheering you on at each stage! 😀👏🙌

Are you sure you have the right person...?
Definitely not super hot, unless I’ve been running...! 😝🔥

That's great to hear Dreams, I'm glad that you're happy with your new plan. Yes 3-4 runs a week should be much more manageable. I hope you enjoy the rest of you week of runs and once those distances start to build up you’ll appreciate the extra rest days! 😅

Go get that Half Marathon!

I'll have to tell you to cancel your plan more often... after receiving compliments like that! 💛 🙌 🍦⚡️
