6km recovery run

My chest infection at long last is completely defeated and I woke up feeling on good form. After a bit of faffage I was ready to go out and tackle a gentle 6km to build on the 10 minute, 15 minute and 5km runs from the previous week. I re-read the article that Irishprincess posted a while back runtastic.com/blog/en/runni... about running after a cold and am taking the advice on board and not pushing myself too much too soon.

It was a lovely run, and although it was quite chilly, it was dry and I gradually managed to coax the sun out from behind the clouds. My shadow was stretched out in front of me, and for some reason I seemed to be kicking my legs out to the sides. I'd never noticed this on my form but after checking by looking at my actual legs and then deliberately running with a girly side legged flick I realised it wasn't me at all. My shadow seemed to have taken on a life of it's on and developed a really weird running style!!!

I carried on regardless, and just assumed that even if my shadow might end up on the IC at least I would still be fit and well to continue my recovery back to 10k and beyond.

I got to 6km without any trouble and I felt as if I could continue for another kilometre at least. But my sensible self took me in hand and I decided to do a sprint finish for 200m and call it a day.

I’m so glad for you Razouski. They’re nasty things, chest infections. I bet your recovery run felt all the more amazing having been laid up. 🏃‍♀️

I’m well impressed with your sprint finish too! I just did 7k and most certainly didn’t sprint at the end! 😅🏃‍♀️

According to the article recovery should take as long as the time off for illness has been. So I shall have another couple of weeks building back up to where I was before the dreaded lurgy.

I went out myself yesterday R. First time in a month or so. Freezing cold - instead of warming up, I actually got colder as I ran!

Only did 2.1 miles around the Park but it's a start. It does feel good to be back out though, doesn't it 😊

Yes, it's good to be back outside but I'm glad it's not as cold here as it is for you. Sounds like you need a few more layers, John.

Minus 35c - a different animal :( Biggest danger apart from exposed skin is sweating :(

On the plus side, with the layers on that I had if I'd taken a fall I would merely have bounced :)

Yay, you're back. Well done on a comfy 6km 👍

Slowly but surely... :-)

I just hope the forecast weather doesn't hamper me later on this week.

well done (please you are feeling better) and a sprint finish!! your "running buddie " must have helped too :-)

Thanks Deals1 , mind you my sprint is probably other people's jog. 😂😂😂

I love the idea that your shadow has a different running style - I kid myself that mine looks like Paula Radcliffe - but I still think your favourite Max Wall is much more likely.

Lovely run though nice and easy does it

I've never noticed my shadow before, but I'm going to be keeping an eye on her form in future. 😂😂😂

You need to get your shadow to bulk up a bit then you'll be able to do shadow boxing once your off the injury couch. ;-)

Brilliantly done Razouski ...easing yourself into it, as you well know, is the only way...my 6k felt like someone had their hand on my forehead pushing me backwards!!

I love that you have a Peter pan shadow!!! X

Razouski in reply to Mummycav

I'd completely forgotten about Peter Pan's shadow. :-)

It sounds like your run was a tough one. Maybe that was your shadow pushing you backwards. These shadows have a lot to answer for...

Glad you're feeling better and the chest infection is in the past. That's funny about the shadow....... and a bit spooky 👻

When I see race photos of me running I look as if I have a weird thing going on with one of my feet but I've been assured it's not like that in real life 😕

I thinking about running in town so that I can check myself out in a shop window...

OK, I lied. I am not thinking about running through town - that would be horrendous, and probably embarrassing too. 😂😂😂

Glad to hear that the recovery runs are going well Razouski. You’ll soon be back to where you were. I agree the long shadows are so funny at this time of year.

Thanks Dexy5 I feel like I'll soon be back to my usual self, and even my voice is nearly back to normal (just missing a couple of top notes).

I hadn't noticed the long shadows before, but it was really odd this morning.

Ah that’s great news. So glad you are feeling better and put your sensible head on. I can’t usually find mine 😀

I just wish my sensible head hadn't told me to sprint at the end, as my legs were a little achey this evening.

But you can’t beat a good ‘run like the clappers’ finish. Always puts a smile on my face 😄

Glad to hear you’re recovered Razouski. The shadow thing made me chuckle. I like long shadows - they make me look slim!

Lovely description Razouski and back on form. As someone says on here slow and steady. 👍

Razouski profile image
Razouski in reply to lexi6

Thanks lexi6 , yes I was keeping that mantra "slow and steady" in my head. Hopefully if there's not too much snow I can get a 7km under my belt tomorrow. :-)

Glad you're back out there, it was a lovely day for a run, so nice to be running, even if it was a little nippy! Just looked outside and it's snowing, so that might have been it for the week. 🌨️❄️

Razouski profile image
Razouski in reply to grumpyoldgirl

Yes, I've just got in and it's snowing, but so far it's not laying, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed as I need to run 7km tomorrow. 🤞🏽
