My IC Confusion.

My very first injury in my very first year of trotting.

Arrived like a silent assassin, my right ankle grumbling and could not make up its mind and was confused and did not want to trot.

Mr brain is also confused and was initially in denial about how and what caused all this stuff.

The advice on here to keep a diary is so sound, even although mine is not thorough, my Strava record has helped.

My Jan 19,starting the 2nd,is wk 1, 15 sessions, wk2, 12 sessions, wk 3, 7 sessions, wk4, 2 sessions.So that is a real fall off, and I guess 36 done of a planned 60.

Trying to figure out honestly the reasons. Not quite there yet because I am waiting to see a physio.๐Ÿค”

I have an Osteoarthritic condition psuedo gout, that I have kept dormant since I started trotting. For me I find a regular daily routine of strength and trotting does that. Just perhaps, changing my lead leg and plyometric jumping caused this right ankle strain, but now this morning my left foot/ankle is grumbling,so my old dormant friend has come to visit I think. So it is maybe out with the tramadol and naproxen and see how it likes that welcome.Zapp and cheerio to you and hello trotting again.

Not going to bore you with diary details but it is and has been a tester to know what this is and what caused it.

The good news if it is psuedo gout,

then it rules out for me anyway, overuse, programme overload and of course we all try to find a good balance of modest adaption.

I do think for me, rigid routine is key for me, no distractions, like all the other stuff that gets chucked our way and whether we want it and indeed we want to give also.

Gosh what a fuss about going on the couch.Cannot believe I am saying that and itโ€™s thanks to this magic forum.

Stay good everyone, stay healthy and happy.

A mere glitch and a wee break Tbae. As Arnie says Youโ€™ll be back. Take care. ๐Ÿค“

Itโ€™s funny Lexi we of course have the sole responsibility of knowing our bodies feelings and history, so the expert, but without qualified professional help it can be confusing and if you can get it.๐Ÿค”

You know the definition of an expert of course, ex is a has been and spurt is a drip under pressure.๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ I think we know our bodies best, but always acknowledge and listen to the professionals who advise us what they think. Drips and spurts? you are a whole fountain! ๐Ÿค“

Determination could be your middle name.๐Ÿ’ช๐ŸŒŸ

We are all ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ with you.

Just be laid back, no pressure,

let it happen, modest adaption and Flossโ€™s tried and tested slow and steady.

You have got it in spades.Nine of spades the last time, 10 of spades this time.Skip the joker then the ๐Ÿ‘ธ and after that the ace.๐Ÿ’ฅ

I'm sure these grumbles won't keep you from trotting for long! It is frustrating not to be able to get out there though isn't it?

It is Debs.๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Not quite knowing what you should be treating can also be frustrating.

Ho Hum, I am just shuffling along and making it up the best I can.

When you have to take the big guns ๐Ÿ’ช medication.I say, go for it and let side effects do there best or worse.

The mend strategy is going to be a zapp job.Out comes the fly swatter.

Pesky gout, how dare it arrive uninvited.๐Ÿคœ๐Ÿ‘ฃ๐Ÿค›

I have two aunts,my motherโ€™s sisters, one 102 and the young one100.I think they both still believe that.๐Ÿค”

Is it just the ankles that are giving pain Tbae, if so is that usual with an outbreak of your pseudo gout?

I do hope you are back to running soon.

Tbae profile image
Tbae

Your right MJ, this is not usual.๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Normally a psuedo gout episode, for me, has been previously a 2-3 day seizure of all body joints.

Had to hit it with 8 tramadol+8 paracetamol + 2 naproxen, as prescribed by a gp/budding registrar some years ago.

My right ankle is strained probably as the nurse thought, and pain oddly moving around now. Also initially, different grumbly, then fine, also I am being ultra cautious, but itโ€™s won for the minute and stopped me trotting.

My left ankle starting to grumble and seize, stiffness , restricted movement, lack of feeling, so l began thinking is this my old friend.๐Ÿค”

Because I am much fitter now

thanks to C25k and this magic forum I am novicely thinking maybe the gout episode has altered/different and or maybe has not arrived at all.๐Ÿ™ˆ Certainly kept it dormant for a year or more.๐Ÿค”

The practice nurse took bp, pulse, dissipation something ๐Ÿค” said I was 98% where I should be and you could not be much better.

She did insist/suggest I rest and just stick with ibuprofen, but I did not talk to her about gout. She ruled out planatar fusciitis, which I was pleased with.Tbh spoke more about running and HealthUnlocked.๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ‘

Resisted taking the strong meds, and comfortably under control, as you will know itโ€™s the night and mornings and keeping topped up when required with the ๐Ÿ’ช meds when needed.

Thanks MJ for your kindness, you Admins are just amazing.

Rest up a few days my friend.

Do you think the second ankle is due to you compensating for the first ankle? Our bodies are such complex yet clever machines!

Tbae profile image
Tbae

Thanks MJ.

Yes our bodies are clever.๐ŸŒŸ

Strangely I have been leading with my weaker leg the left.Unconsciously I guess following with my stronger right.

Recently and with an eye on Abiโ€™s winter speed challenge thought I will try leading with my stronger right and see if I can pick up my pace a little. Then the niggle.๐Ÿค”

Of course neutrition unchanged for uric๐Ÿค” acid/gout, been treadmill interval sprinting in Dec., but always thorough warm up, also started plyometric jumping to go with the sprinting and again all the precautions, not too much and slowly getting longer and higher. Now at 24โ€ plyo soft box.

Do not know if the Dec/ Xmas lurgy hanging around and causing delayed reactions๐Ÿค”.

It could well be imbalance and compensation MJ.Its confusing as a non medic and a novice.

Interesting though to try and learn something.

I think I am going try and get ahead of it tonight and hit it with the strong meds.I am laid up now and treating this as a reset time now anyway.Hopefully start a fresh on the 1st Feb at green gym and have a gentle reintroduction.

Sorry, but it is lovely to be able to chat and share. It just helps to clear the head and see things more clearly.

As many others have said on here,

When you think of the courageous, inspiritational people on here and what they have to cope with.WOW.

I am just whinging. ๐Ÿ™ˆ

Take care Bob, and donโ€™t worry about taking a bit of a break until things settle down again. Sometimes we just have to adapt around what our bodies throw at us. I hope this eases soon, so you can get back to your happy trotting routine. โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ
