The Parkrun hill conquered again and exciting birthday pressie! πŸ˜€πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

I did parkrun at Ashton Court again today. A damp dreary cold morning - hey, perfect for running! πŸ‘

There were loads of first timers and I wondered how many knew exactly what they were in for! Watching the first timers’ briefing from afar I could see the Run Director gesturing upward towards the cottage which is the 1k mark. A brutal 1k, and it doesn’t end there - the path has a β€˜false summit’, flattens out a tad then there’s another steep bit. Even that isn’t the end of it, next there’s the gravel path, 90% of it uphill! Poor newbies, they all looked a bit pale. πŸ˜…

Anyway, it took an eternity to get running - us dog people being at the back had about 20 seconds to wait before going through the start, as was confirmed by my Garmin/MMR time vs the official result. I’ve grown used to that! πŸ•πŸ•πŸ•πŸ•

Anyway, I had nearly negative splits again! It was a faster 5k time than during my 6k run on Tuesday, so I was pleased with that. πŸ˜€ Unless I crawl on my hands and knees for the first km, I’ll never achieve fully negative splits with that hill, so I’ll be content with what I did today! πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

I’ve also moved up an age category this week and for my birthday my hubby has booked me an all bells and whistles gait analysis at a running lab on Feb 5th. It lasts 60 minutes and they do all sorts. πŸ˜… I’ll be cream crackered! Maybe I’ll wear my Garmin and treat it as a β€˜run’ πŸ€”πŸ€”

Anyway, I now have that lovely fatigued leg feeling and I’m doing very little this afternoon which is just my kind of day! ❀️

Happy running you fab bunch of VRBs. πŸ˜€

Happy birthday cheekychipmunks and what a good run you had. Yes negative splits are only possible on a flat run, unless the hill is in the 1st km.

It’s funny I didn’t see any pushchairs or dogs today but UTS says they were there. They obviously didn’t start at the back and overtake me like our parkrun. In fact I didn’t see any in the runners running in the opposite direction- I’m usually so observant but maybe I was in the zone 🀣🀣

We were saying today that it’s good to get out early to do Parkrun but by the time we’ve had breakfast, showered , slumped on the sofa and looked at the stats, the day can be gone! It’s a great feeling though

I’m always in awe of people who push buggies - there was a lady at Eastville a couple of weeks ago with a double buggy plus a tiny baby in a front sling. Of course she flew past me too! πŸ™„πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ˜…

And yes this forum doesn’t half take up my time! My phone alerts me whenever anyone I follow posts, so I’m always having a nose and/or posting myself! And as for stats ...... well my Garmin has a lot to answer for. More time wasting opportunities! πŸ˜…πŸ˜… Saturdays fly by! 🀣

Happy birthday Cheeky, πŸŽ‚ and what an exciting birthday present! I can't wait to hear all about it.

Your negative splits are becoming a habit! You'll have to find a flat parkrun to see if you can nail the 2k split as well. It's all good!

Thanks TC. I met a friend at Ashton Court this morning and she’s planning on going to Burnham which is a flat seafront parkrun. Might need to give that a whirl!

I know I’ll be nervous before the gait analysis. Hope I don’t make a fool of myself, but it does sound interesting. πŸ˜€πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

Me neither. I’ve always been active, I rode horses for years and worked with them too which is very physical, but running has brought a whole new level of fitness which I never realised I had! It’s helped me in all walks of life and it’s fabulous. Walks I did with my dog are now effortless - some are pretty hilly - and I’m physically stronger too. πŸ’ͺ Isn’t it great? πŸ˜€πŸ˜€

Well done CCM! It sounds like a tough park run.

Happy birthday for sometime soon!

What a great present your husband has given you - you must report back on here what it is like. I am thinking about gait analysis and weighing it up against another pair of decathlon trainers. The ones I have are meant to be for beginning running and/or one run. week and I am doing a bit more than that.

A full hour of analysis sounds like you will learn a lot about your running style, hope you have fun as well!

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply to sunshinefish

Thanks SSF, it is a tricky parkrun but very rewarding. It’s ranked 495 out of 512 in terms of elevation but if I can do it, it’s certainly doable!

My Asics Patriot 7s are fabulous trainers, but like yours I don’t think they’re designed to go miles and miles. Mine have taken me happily from W2 of C25K and have covered many miles now, and whereas they’re still comfy I do wonder how much supportive life they have left. Who knows, they may go on longer - I’m sure to find out! Can’t wait for the gait analysis - more running info for me to pore over as they give you your videos too I think! πŸ‘πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

sunshinefish profile image
sunshinefishGraduate10 in reply to cheekychipmunks

Oh that will be an experience, watching yourself run on video!!

My trainers started c25k back in July. I will be sad to see them go, but I got another pair in the sale to wear as casual shoes, and the difference between the two is amazing.

I will have to look up the table of steep park runs! although I have only done one so far.
