It was ‘warm’ this morning

It was...relatively...’warm’ this morning. And dry. If I could just think of WHERE to run I could do a run and watch the dawn...

I checked the weather forecast. Today is the only nice day forecast for ages. Snow soon! So off I went. It needed to be a longer run if I’m serious about getting back up to 10km.

I decided to run along the road to the Sett Valley Trail and run back along it. Is it really healthy running along the roads breathing in the exhaust fumes? Yuk! But there were street lights. By dawn I found a cut down on to the trail. No idea how far I was from the end therefore what the total km might be. I was happy to reach 8km before reaching home, and still had a way to go and gas ⛽️ in the tank so continued. Getting a bit close to home to reach 9km so on the last hill turned and ran away from home until Runkeeper said I’d made 9km. Walked home happy.

One question: how come the bit where you feel you could go on forever doesn’t last for ever?

No two questions: why is it SO difficult to get out in the first instance, coz once you’re out there it’s great!

Well done Baddie, that 10k is within reach again! 👏👏 That was a good run by the sounds of it, and isn’t it fabulous when you hit the sweet spot and it feels almost effortless (you know what I mean!)

I know what you mean about exhaust fumes. I often wonder. My parkrun is in a lovely pretty green park, past a lake etc, but it’s an inner city park right near the motorway and one side of it is adjacent to a busy street.

It was warm today wasn’t it? And a bit wet, but pleasant for a run. All the walkers I encountered were bundled up, but I was lovely and toasty. Last one of those for a while! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️ 🥶 🥶

I was perfectly warm once I got going. In fact I had to take my fingerless gloves off. Loved being out there at a time of day I never used to see!

Pretty cool (as in chilly) up here today. Answers to your questions: 1. At some point the searing pain of tired muscles or the ton weight of lactic acid which represents reality eventually penetrates the endorphin fuelled euphoria. 2. I think it is lack of adrenaline and the cold weather( yearning for Oz?). I get the same feeling when I prepare to dive into the swimming baths. Ok once you are in swimming. If I had to choose , I think it is better to feel great at the end of the run rather than at the beginning.....some deep puritanical instinct about needing to earn your buzz probably !! Nice to have you back !!😊

I stayed awake all day at work after that run! Never thought it'd be me running around in the dark in Lycra! Tee hee hee🤗

Yes most of my runs (except parkrun) are on pavements, some on busy roads, and every time a car goes past I smell the exhaust and think 'not good for respiration'! One reason why I now avoid rush hour if poss.

Anyway well done on your run Baddie - knocking on the door of 10k once more! 😀

I wonder if I can beat the snow...

Well done!

Yep I think the same about fumes... But often can't be avoided especially in the dark.

Question one... I don't know. Maybe your body is staying ok ready for its next adventure

Two .... Gremlins... Faffage? But yep always feel better once out,and often even better when finished the run

😀

Faffage and indecisiveness. I don't seem to have a gremlin problem at the moment which is great.

I wasn't the first to say faffage, I like it too and picked it up from the forum, but I'm not sure from who? 😀😂🤔

Hi Baddie, Sorry I have got behind with your posts since Australia! Welcome back! What an adventure you have had!

On the second question I am trying to convince myself that three runs a week is a given, Mon, Wed, Fri. No fuss, just do it! Ha ha! As I realise I also have exceptions. Parkrun would change my days and rain today (Wed) while sun forecast for tomorrow. Sunshine increases the grin factor while running, always good. So I completed Joe Wicks HIIT for beginners today and plan to run tomorrow and then again on Saturday. It does help if you have a plan about where you are going to run and what type of run. For me 2x30minutes and 1xhour or longer. Two easy pace, one intervals.

Continue having fun and keeping fit or getting fitter. Happy onward running journey to you! 😊☀️🏃‍♀️

I like your plan. Mine is much more flexible to fit around work/life/weather. I have printed out a chart where I can record each run and see the total build up towards my 700km Year goal. Hopefully that will keep me on track...!

Sounds very good. I only work 3.30pm-7pm Mon to Fri, so lots of flexibility for the earlier part of each day. So much easier than the many full time working folk on the forum. Looks like your 700km is based around averaging 3 runs at 5km ish a week. All the very best with that! Brilliant!

Thank you, yes 15km per week but with a couple of weeks off in case of injury/work/life etc. Not aiming for the stars, just to keep going at a decent distance each week 😊
