My first run of the new year on Jan 2nd was a frosty delight through thatched cottage villages in Dorset. But the dreaded weak ankle struck again after long walks over rough ground and I didn't dare run until today.
I'm so glad I was patient. I thought I'd only manage to go round the block but I felt quite energetic and the going wasn't too tough (despite a furious wind at certain points) so I pressed on to complete a steady 4k pootle through woodland, field and good old pavements.
A week ago I was quite down about running & couldn't see a way forward with my annoying biomechanics. The support of others on this lovely forum has lifted me up and given some inspiration notably the 'run without any fixed agenda' during January and I've realised I'd like to do Ju-Ju's 10k plan again. I know I can do this distance, it's the nice, steady plan that I like.
As for the ankles, well, I'm just an emu with kinky knees and feet with high arches which roll inwards. I have orthotics & suitable running shoes etc & do Pilates & Yoga every week but despite this, occasionally I have niggles. But, this time, I'm resolved to get on top of them and have started an online course for foot/ankle problems to understand more of what's physically going on & have a new range of exercises to try. So far so good....
Thanks for being such a great bunch of people with your inspiring posts and supportive comments.
Happy runnings and positive thoughts to anyone stuck on the IC. X

Good for you SM. You sound determined to get the better of your ankle and your pootle has clearly lifted your spirits. I hope you can work out exactly what’s going on. Good luck with the exercises!
And enjoy your road to 10k again! You’ll make it for sure! Good old Magic 10! 👍😀
Sounds like a good pootle. I hope you manage to work out what works best for your feet through the online programme. It sounds very positive. I’m sure you’ll soon be on your way back to the magic 10. 😀
So glad to hear you had an enjoyable run, Slinky. Sounds like you are doing all the right things, and taking control of your challenging feet/ankles issue. Ju-ju’s 10k plan is fab and definitely one worth repeating! xxx
I really surprised myself with how much I enjoyed the plan first time round but this time I don't have to fret about whether I really will ever get to the elusive 10k!
Your frosty run was on my birthday! I’m glad you are back to it. ❤️😊
Happy belated birthday! How nice to start the year with a birthday and make plans for the rest of the year. I'm at the end of Feb and always desperate for some warmth and spring by then! 🌷☀️😊
You sound really positive and that online course sounds interesting. You're right though, I think the more we understand our bodies then the easier it is to get to the bottom of the problem. Good luck and enjoy your pootles in the meantime 🙂
Thanks IP. I seem to have tacitly accepted my knees & feet throughout life so far but running has really highlighted the issue and it's the one thing I really don't want to lose in my life. So here goes solving the problems...👣😁
Very happy to hear that you are feeling much more positive about your running Slinkymalinki😊 after that lovely pootle through the woods...
Problems have solutions, and your resolution to sort out your ankle niggles by understanding the physicality and doing specific exercise is brilliant. Well done for taking such a positive approach...👌
I think we will all look forward to hearing how you progress and fingers crossed, you will enjoy some more happy pootles before starting Ju Ju Magic No. plan and hitting that 10k mark again with confidence and having fun along the way.
