I actually overtook 2 people on the hideous hill at parkrun this morning! How is that possible? πŸ˜… And, to be honest, even though it’s still vile, I dare say it wasn’t as vile today. I think I even passed my snail (sorry buddy 🐌).

Now you have to understand we’re still not talking swift. Far from it. But it was my 2nd fastest PR time (PB was in the rain a few weeks ago), and it felt really good! Today’s official time was 38.05 and MMR recorded 37.54 at 5k. Pleased with that.

Can you spot which km includes the hill?!! 🐌🐌

In other news. I’m well excited as my Christmas pressie from my dear husband is arriving today! Garmin Forerunner 235 in Frost Blue! I won’t open it until the big day though. Seriously, it’s as exciting as getting a horse for my Action Girl back in the 70’s! πŸ˜…

Happy running lovely peeps. πŸƒβ€β™€οΈβ€οΈπŸƒ

See you do whizz!!!, and that garmin in that colour is just what I have ordered for myself πŸ€—, mine should arrive on Monday.

I love that colour! Absolutely can’t wait to play with it and go for my first run! Did you say yours was the same model too? πŸ˜€

Yes I had just posted about it earlier. Black Friday Amazon deal.

I'll be in touch with you if I'm struggling to set it up 🀯🀯

More like me being in touch with you Jell! I’m no techy! Hope you’ll report back after your first run with it - with stats! πŸ˜€

Oh wow, overtaking on hills! No snails today CCM and a very good run from the sounds of it, well done! Your Christmas present sounds lovely, nice husband!

Thanks SSF! I helped him out by adding it to the Amazon basket and even got him a good Black Friday deal (Β£149 I think). All he had to do was press the button! πŸ˜…

That looks like a fine bit of running Cheeky, it sounds like you’re getting the measure of that hill. You'll love your Garmin. I have the same model - it’s great being able to get all geeky over the reams of stats it produces after each run.

Oh yes Mike, I feel my inner geek itching to emerge! πŸ€“ Can’t wait to ditch the annoying arm band, where I can’t operate my phone even with special phone fingers on my gloves! πŸ‘Ž

Well done on your hilly Parkrun; I’m sure your snail will be back with you for the long distance runs. That’s what you’ll notice, the longer you can run, the faster your parkruns will be.

Well done Cheeky, brilliant times for your run.

The 235 in frost blue looks gorgeous- I was very tempted by that one too. I've just got the Vivoactive (in the sales) - you are going to love yours I just know it! Ive just started the Jeff Galloway training plan that's installed on it, that promises to make me faster ( from 🐌 to 🐒). Though how you have the willpower to wait till Christmas I do not know, you're a far stronger person than me!

And yes, it beats getting action girls horse (though not by much. Gosh, those were the days!)

Thanks TC! It’ll be a massive exercise in self control, that’s for sure. But I’m going to be strong ...... (I hope 🀞)

Hi CC nice run, that hill looks a killer, but now your overtaking folk perhaps your getting used to it. Great jobπŸ˜€ on the other news I’ve asked Santa (wife) for the same watch in lava red hopefully I’ll be lucky🀞glad you had a good Parkrun πŸ˜€

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply to Runsome

Thanks Runsome. The first part of the hill up from the lake is steep but not too long. The killer is that it links up to the main path which is about a kilometre of steady uphill! Luckily we only do the whole thing once, on the 2nd lap. We do the main path on all 3 laps, so each one has an uphill element. But we still go back each week! πŸ˜…

Hope Santa brings you your lovely Lava Red Garmin! 🀞🀞 πŸ˜€

I’m tempted to do a flat parkrun one week to see what my time would be. There is one I could get to, but it’s 20 minutes further away, so about a 45 minute drive for me. Maybe in the New Year ...... πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply to JonathanP

Thanks Jonathan. The first part is steep, the rest of less so but it’s about a km long. Each of our laps has an uphill section, but fortunately the steep/long combo is only on lap 2. Good thing too! πŸ˜…πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

JonathanP profile image

I think you're right that longer runs and 'regular' hills do help build up our strength and stamina - but it is nice to do a flat 5k to see what time is possible!

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply to JonathanP

I totally agree. There are a couple of flat ones I could get to which are a bit further away, but I think I’ll give them a go in the New Year! πŸ‘

Haha! I bet your snails were saying β€œwhat on Earth is cheeky up to that wasn’t part of the plan!” Overtaking uphill... the world has gone crazy! 😜 good for you cheeky!

I have to say it felt bizarre overtaking on the hill. I was slowly closing in on them, and I almost slotted in behind, but i thought I should go for it! Snail was confused, especially when I went past someone else! He joined me again while I recovered from my exertions! πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ˜…πŸŒ
