Yet another 5k, so nearly a PB too...

Hello lovely running buddies :)

First of all big thanks to all of those who have taken the trouble to find me on Strava. Thank you all, it’s nice to be wanted!!

I continued with my road back this morning. I was considering going for 6 or 7k, but thought better of it as my current 5ks are going pretty well. I did the same 5k route as I have the last couple of times.

I did however listen to a slightly faster running track. The last few runs have been at 161bpm, so I went up to 162 today. I also tried to keep more of a consistent pace. I tend to lose time on the uphill sections unsurprisingly, but also the downhill and twisty turns bits. I made a conscious effort to increase my stride just on the downhill bits, as much as I felt safe to, and I think it paid off. Also I tried to keep up my pace on the last uphill push too. It was really hard and I felt like my lungs were going to explode, but the result was my second fastest ever 5k time, and this one had hills.

This one was 32:22, my PB is only about 10 seconds faster and that was on the flat, so pretty pleased with that :D

Happy running folks!

Those 5ks seem to be going well Neil, well done.

in reply to Dexy5

Thanks Dexy, adding way more stretching in seems to be paying off it seems :D

Running fast downhill is scary for me! I shuffle! 🤪 well done!

in reply to Ang33333

True! I was still cautious though, just not *as* cautious, and shaved a minute off my 5k time. That split was where I really lost time on my last couple of runs :)

Good for you - sounds like a great run again Neil 😊🏃‍♂️

in reply to Dizzysmum17

Thank you!! I’m back to enjoying it now, which is what I wanted. Going to up my distance for the next run... not 10k yet, possibly 6 or 7. We’ll see how that goes :)

Well done Neil on getting a 5K PB of 32.22, and that being on a hilly course. Not sure what my PB is, On Wednesday 10th October I officially ran a 5K in 33.40, but looking at the 1K splits on the Mapmyrun app at exactly 5K split it shows 32.25, that's a difference of 1.15.Not sure which time I should go for if someone asked me what my quickest 5k is.

in reply to AlMorr

Thanks Al :) Go for the faster time, it sounds better 😂

Great run Neil, you sound really happy too! Brilliant. xx

in reply to Bluebirdrunner

Thank you Jan, yes, I have to say the last km was blooming hard work, but given the pace that’s obviously why :D

Never Give Up must be your mantra. Good run. Good for you attacking those hills.

I don’t know if it’s my phone or the data plan I’ve got or where I live but strava does not seem to work. If I can get it to work I will join you.

in reply to Goforitmama

Thank you! I’m usually rather good at giving up, but given the very positive effect running has on my mental health, giving up isn’t an option...

Regarding Strava, I only know this from the iPhone point of view, but is mobile data enabled for that app? Also does Strava work when you’re at home on WiFi?

Great run Neil - with hills included!

in reply to DebJogsOn

Thank you!! The hills are a challenge, but I really need to start getting used to them :)

Hi Neil, may I follow you please on Strava? If so, what is your user name? x 😊

in reply to quirkybee

Of course! Not quite sure where to find that... I’ll see if I can find a link and email it. I haven’t quite found my way round Strava yet!!

Your name will show when you go onto Strava Neil, you won't need to look for it. Just tap on the app and you're in 😊

Woo hoo! What a great run, Neil. I can feel all the joys. 😁 You were quick too - must be feeling more confident at that pace! Do take care with longer strides though; in terms of less impact on your joints, shorts strides with feet always landing under your body is better apparently (lorks, I am a nag! I apologise. Been reading lots how to run without injury.) I literally mince with the tiniest steps downhill!

Hope you had a nice runner’s high after that! And as for distance, you will be fine. I hadn’t done a 10k in over a month before this morning, and just built up gradually again - 6k one week, 7k the next - then leapt back up to 10k again today because it felt right. I am learning all about the joy of slower running at the moment, and today felt so good, the whole run. 😁

Keep us posted, Neil! Lovely to hear about your running. 😘

Fabulous 👍👍I have a 5 k in the morning, hoping to get a time like that

in reply to Walshy3

Thank you! I’m kind-of working my way back up to 10k after a bit of an issue with my left leg, and I’m really loving the 5ks at the moment. I’m sure you’ll do fine with yours. Don’t race at the start, and you should have enough left for a decent finish and hopefully a consistent pace. :)

5k done ! think I clocked in at around 32 mins, the 5 and 10k all started at the same time so you were a few minutes in the melee before you could hit a pace, results are posted tomorrow I’ll keep ya posted👍

in reply to Walshy3

Very well done. 32 minutes is a pretty decent time with all those people getting in the way!

Well done Neil, that’s a great 5k time, and with hills too! 👏👏👏😀🏃🏃🏃

in reply to cheekychipmunks

Thank you :D I am starting to like hills... I just don’t think my legs yet agree :P

Haha, me too! I don’t find the breathing part particularly difficult, but my legs refuse to go any faster up hills, so I go very slowly indeed! 😅
