First full 5k run since ‘running MOT’

Hi everyone! So you may remember that back in early September I had a ‘running MOT’ to check my form and it was all wrong. Since then I’ve been getting used to running with proper form by redoing C25K. It’s nice to hear Sarah Millican on the app again! I’ve been using it as interval training this time though. So I would still do 5k by doing each day’s run twice and each 5k would be made up of different amounts of running and walking. Well, today I got on to week 5 Run 3. Remember the really scary one where you had to do 20 mins run for the first time? Well I did the 20mins and I’d done just over 3k so I thought I might as well round it up to 4K. Then, of course, I thought as there was only 1 more little k to go, I might as well go for it!

Pretty pleased to be back to a ‘normal’ run again. Though I’ll be doing another week of intervals at least and then settling into the new 5k for a few weeks before I can think about trying b210k again.

This form correction was all in aid of helping my hurting left hip. It’s still achy but I’ve noticed I might be leaning to the left when I run. So I can shift about a bit and straighten my back when it hurts and it seems to help. Will see how it goes. I am also running on roads now and avoiding the beach, which might be helping.

I think I’m a lot speedier. I’m trying to go as slow as I can whilst keeping in time with 180bpm music and am equalling my best speeds when I was really going for it in the past! Will be interesting to see how fast I am when I’m settled in.

Cheers!

Jim

That all sounds very positive. Hats off to you if you've changed your form as it's a challenging thing to do.

Sounds like it’s going well, jimmers! 😃❤️🏃‍♂️I’m impressed you can keep up with 180bpm music at all. I’m still struggling to keep up with 170bpm stuff. 😂😂

That was a big change for me! I’m doing many more steps but making much smaller circles with my feet.

Thanks! I’m looking forward to building up to a reasonably comfortable 5k again at the moment!

You're still pretty speedy there Jimmers! Great to see you are feeling back in the groove. As you know I run with arthritis in my right hip and the gait changes you've inspired me to to make have worked brilliantly. I also make small re-adjustments when I run because, as fatigue sets-in and my core weakens, or I start over-striding, I can experience joint pain too. I'm keeping a mental track of the number of times I have to compensate for aches and pains and, overall, they are reducing. So I think you'll find your awareness and adjustments will work for you too. Very best wishes and happy running!

This is great! Glad to hear it helped and I hope my aches and pains settle down as well as yours. Did my second full 5k with proper form today and hoping to consolidate it over the next 3 weeks. Cheers!
