One of my official event photos from Sunday - by way of thanking you all:

I'm not sure if I could have reached this point without the companionship, love and support of my running family, but I do know the journey would have been a lot harder without you.

Now to work on eliminating the podgy bit round my middle! In my mind's eye I'm a slim and elegant gazelle, so this was a bit of an eye opener!

And meanwhile I'm so inspired and hooked by this public event running malarky that I've entered the Rotary Club 10k run for Macmillan Support on 21st of this month, at Blenheim again. I did think of doing the 5k instead, just as a nice easy option and to see if I could better my 5k time - but I think I might have been a bit disappointed with doing a shorter run.

Thanks again everyone!!! xxx

Lovely photo😍of you and your running friends Flick, yes those leggings you are wearing do strike😜 the eye. Good to hear from you that you have entered for The Rotary Club 10k for Macmillan Support, good luck for that run😊

in reply to AlMorr

Thank you :) No idea who the other two were, but everyone was very friendly. And, yes, i do rather stand out against the sea of red t-shirts!

Well done you. And I really don’t think you’ve got anything to worry about in reference to podgy bits. You look slim and gazelle-like to me. Brilliant achievement!

You look absolutely fab Flick, honestly. I know it's personal to you, but if I had just that teeny weeny bit of tummy, I'd be happy. Lovely photo and well deserved for you completing it 😘😊 xxx

It’s only when it’s windy that it becomes a nuisance. I think it’s long enough now to mostly stay put 😊

Lovely photo Flick - you look so relaxed! And happy! And you are a slim gazelle - there are no wobbly bits that I can see! Beautiful! xx

in reply to Dizzysmum17

Thank you, you are kind. Some of the photos showed it up better - or worse rather 😂 Ot was such a lovely run in so many ways xx

Well done Flick 😃👍🏃‍♀️🏅. In cruise mode I see 👍

in reply to misswobble

Thank you. I had slowed down a bit - that was the nasty up a long gradual slope to the finish bit. I was fine going round the hilly bits, but that last slope to the finish is just plain mean! 🤨

misswobble profile image
misswobbleGraduate10

I know! It’s rotten ☹️ We keep doing it though 😁

in reply to misswobble

Yrs indeed - I will be back there in the 21st to do another 10k charity run! 😂

Heel striking .. tsk

in reply to pinkaardvark

I don’t think so, though I was quite tired by then and that was a steeper slope than it looks in the pic. I can feel my feet coming down on the ball of my foot first the whole time I’m running

pinkaardvark profile image
pinkaardvarkGraduate10 in reply to

Heel is hitting first in the pic, that's what I was reacting too.

in reply to pinkaardvark

well like i said, i was pretty tired by the last km so anything is possible. kind of you to point it out :( Now i'm going to be worrying about it!

pinkaardvark profile image
pinkaardvarkGraduate10 in reply to

Sorry, didn't know you would take such affront.. *eeep* Nothing wrong with heelstriking and lots of so called elite forefoot runners including the kenyans can be seen heelstriking as they get tired. They often swear blind they didn't do it either.

in reply to pinkaardvark

I would hate to heel strike. I got rid of the Brooks ghosts because they encouraged it. But, as i said, i was tired so (far from swearing blind i didn't) anything was possible by that stage. I was certainly dragging my feet those last few yards, where the photographers were. My shoes, however, are not wearing on the heels more than the rest of the sole.

in reply to pinkaardvark

Actually this is interesting. you've led me to examining the soles of my shoes. Right and left wear differently, as expected because of the weak left leg. Most wear is on the instep to the front of the shoes, but there is some wear on the outside edges at the back. And also, curiously, on the instep area. i wonder if that's due to running up and downhills such a lot.

pinkaardvark profile image
pinkaardvarkGraduate10 in reply to

Most people roll inwards on landing(too much and you need supination support) and some also flick their foot outwards. I tend to flick a bit. I also don't feel that I heel strike and don't show it in a wear of my shoes but when watching videos I have seen myself heelstrike. I think we all can change our gait at different paces and cadences and also as you say when tired. When going up hill your more on your toes though, so assume the photo is downhill? If uphill then you were probably heelstriking more than you thought, though not as much as the lady next to you(your daughter?)

in reply to pinkaardvark

Not my daughter. My daughter is in the pics from the other post I did. My videos from gait testing show for to midfoot strike and most of the wear on my shoes bears this out but, as you say, gait changes with cadence and tiredness.

pinkaardvark profile image
pinkaardvarkGraduate10 in reply to

Yeah that was the same for me, as you don't run that fast on the shop treadmill. I tend to find as I speed up my gait lengthens and that is when the heel comes in a bit more. So I am trying to up my cadence more lately but it is hard on the calves if your not used to it.

in reply to pinkaardvark

Since I’ve been running faster my stride has shortened. Not consciously but it seems to be happening - the gait line on Garmin is more regular too

pinkaardvark profile image
pinkaardvarkGraduate10 in reply to

That's good, sounds like you have good form ;)

I think it’s hapoening because I’m more out of breath, but I do have Oldfloss ’s voice in my ear saying small steps!

Lovely photo Flick. Great momento of the day. I always have my hair scraped back, I wish I could run with my hair down! That finish being on a deceiving looking harsh slope was mean! Xx

in reply to Clairecandothis

Thank you! And, yes, that last slope was very deceptive. nice at the start though :) xx

Yes, now that you refer to the leggings I am going to totally blame you for the fact that I now seem to have an account with this company, and another pair of the bloody things on the way!!!!!!!

I wouldn't mind, but I am rarely out in the daylight, but they are soo comfortable, and they stay put🤨

You look pretty trim to me by the way!

in reply to Jell6

Lol sorry about that 😊 which pair did you get? And thank you 😊

Jell6 profile image

Pair?!!!

Fantasy (ordered)

Paint Swirl

Serenity (capri)

They sneak up on you, a pair of capris...

now it's cooler, I'll go full length, Oh! I like those I NEED another pair. 🤯🤯🤯🤯

in reply to Jell6

I have paint swirl in capris. They have dragons coming at the end of the week, and I want starfish when they come back in stock. Also got wild Africa, comic book, Aurora, fiesta, I might have forgotten some - eek not good if I’ve so many I can’t remember them 😳

I tried but out of my size in the ones I really liked 🤣👎

She does sell out fast, especially in medium, but he restocks once or twice a week. She's a small business so lacks storage space

GoGo_JoJoGraduate10 in reply to

I'll keep checking back 👍😉

Jell6 profile image
Jell6Graduate10 in reply to GoGo_JoJo

I had to send my size back and go a size up!!!!!, they do have a draw string at the waist so that worked well for me. They do stay put 🤣

in reply to Jell6

I'm glad you got sorted. I usually order a medium and the last couple I've bought have been more like a small. that's fine, they still fit, but i let her know so she can check with the suppliers. I always take the drawstring out as they stay up anyway.

Jell6 profile image
Jell6Graduate10 in reply to

My most recent pair was smaller too, I did let Charlene know, and she sent me a replacement pair, plus a returns bag, but I measured them against my original pair and they were a good cm smaller.

The replacement pair was smaller too! but I kept them, they do fit, I just like things less snug I think.

I do love the brand though.😊

in reply to Jell6

I'm glad you told her too. My dragons and starfish were definitely smaller, tighter to get over the ankle bone too when putting them on.

A lovely photo! You look very comfortable and not struggling at all. I wouldn't have guessed that was at the end with a hill that kills 🙂.

in reply to SaskAlliecat

Thank you :) I actually tried to sprint at the finish but was literally dragging myself along. i've run hillier 10k before, but not as fast as this. And this wasn't the steepest bit but it went on for a very long time! I really don't know how Clairecandothis managed it after a half marathon x

SaskAlliecat profile image

I find the longer less steep hills more challenging than short and steep..... they just keep going and going and going 😆

in reply to SaskAlliecat

It’s true! 😳

Well done Flick. I think you look amazing, definitely a highly coloured, Lycra’d gazelle. Well done for your race, brilliant job!

in reply to Bry64

That did make me chuckle. Thank you both x

You look great Flick, and not like you’ve just run 10k. Was the red T-shirt everyone else is wearing out of your goody bag? Seems strange to get them before the run, but probably easier to administer. I’ve yet to see a parkrun picture I would be happy to put on the forum!😂

Steanhiscat profile image
SteanhiscatGraduate10 in reply to Dexy5

i don’t know about FlickM3s race, but it seems to depend on the organisers... St.Helens 10k - goody bag, Port Sunlight - race day tent - just show your number, Wigan - 10k race - by post if you buy one. Dream trail race - none, but £14 to enter- nice bling ( T’s advertised a few days later along with hoody’s).

Dexy5 profile image
Dexy5Graduate10 in reply to Steanhiscat

Thanks for that. I’ve entered a Santa run but don’t know where or when I get my Santa suit but hopefully i will be advised. 🎅🏻

in reply to Dexy5

Somebody on Sunday was running dressed as an enormous fluffy red heart

Dexy5 profile image
Dexy5Graduate10 in reply to

That would have been warmer than a t-shirt ❤️

in reply to Dexy5

Thanks 😊 I collected my T-shirt but didn’t want to wear it for the race. They handed them out beforehand so people could run in them though. There were changing rooms and baggage drop off. My daughter wore hers, but that was because she was going to run in a vest but was too cold. As for a goody bag, no such luck - all they gave us after was a medal, a bottle of spring water and a leaflet about raising more money.

Well done. And signing up for another 10km. Wow.

Don't worry about the middle bit, it comes with the change of hormones and I don't know anyone who has got to the menopause and not got it. I used to hope 'middle aged spread' was a type of chocolate spread reserved for adults. Now I know better as I have a spare tyre that has to come with me everywhere. If you do find a way of getting rid of it please share!

in reply to BaddieThePirate

Mine arrived with medication when I had Cancer three years ago. and no change in shape till the medication. I’m a stone over the weight I was before that, it’s all round my middle, but it’s going gradually. But not something I particularly like discussing on social media!!

And thank you re your kind remarks about the run 😊
