Laura's stamina podcast. Tough!? 😱

Well this morning I set off for my first attempt at this podcast. I was feeling quite positive and kinda looking forward to it... How wrong could I be.

Forgot my glasses, it was bin day -phew!, Sun came out, wind, flies, debris. Plus the main thing was I just couldn't keep up! I'm a bit of a plodder and think the pace was too fast for me at the start, so I just felt tired too soon! I had to keep stopping for a quick walk and honestly couldn't wait for it to finish. Also I found it difficult to run to the beat, never did have good coordination. Found myself repeating 1, 2, 3 , 4, 1, 2, 3 , 4 and concentrating on this maybe too much.? Partner sometimes says I'm like corporal Jones (dad's army.. for those that can remember!l as I'm often clapping a at a different speed to everyone else at shows etc. πŸ˜‚

Anyways I was glad when it was over . However, despite my issues I might try it again in a few weeks, as Laura did have good advice about techniques, posture etc... Which I found very beneficial.

Maybe it was just a bad run in general, but I reckon still better than an extra hour in bed, maybe πŸ˜‚

Well done for sticking at it and completing your run! I always feel I’ve achieved something after a tough run πŸ˜„

Yes Laura has the advice.

Shorten your stride by shortening the stroke of your coordinating arms.

Quick, light, short footfall and calm natural breathing.

Laura will get you there.Stick with it , you will love it. You will get that feeling.

Worth just listening to all her 3 graduate podcasts.πŸ€”

Thanks . I hope so! Think I do little steps naturally. It was the pace and beat I struggled with! πŸƒπŸƒπŸƒ

But it is harder initially,if you do not shorten your stride.

It’s about increasing your cadence gradually.

Try it just running on the spot for a few minutes.πŸ€”πŸ‘πŸ‘

There is no pace in the podcast to struggle with. Pace is all in your head. The podcast only suggests a cadence/tempo to run to. If you're finding it too fast then you need to take smaller strides.

I stuggled a lot with these podcasts after c25k as noone was around to explain the science. But ideally we should be running with a cadence of 165 to 180 which helps prevent us overstriding and also by forcing more quicker steps helps ensure we are less likely to heel strike.

As a tall runner at 6'3' with long legs my cadence was naturally quite low even though my pace wasn't bad, so my initial response to these podcasts was just to go faster to try and keep up with the 'pace' as I wasn't altering my stride length to compensate.

So for the stamina one, consider reducing stride length if you find it is too hard or your going too fast, but persevere as the reward to your running form of a faster cadence and turnover is immense.

Very concise and just spot on as usual.πŸ’₯πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸ’₯πŸ‘πŸ‘

That helps me a lot and is a reminder of the direction of travel.πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘.

Well as long as the direction of travel is forwards Bob, only time I go backwards running is when I'm flying off the back of a treadmill :P

Dreadmill with your long legs.

You need an extra longπŸ€”

Is there such a thing.πŸ€”

For the average short ass,πŸ™ˆ

just selecting the correct belt speed that lets you feel you are pulling the belt back and not the other way round is a help to most.πŸ€”

Hope you are good and all happening as you wish.

Thinking now of a marathon after the Oct Speed Challenge.πŸ€”πŸ™ˆπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
