We both did our first ever race today. (OH finished somewhat ahead of me - no surprise there!) Had been a bit worried about the forecast - wet with a strongish headwind for the 2nd 5k... Turned out to be pretty grey, but not too bad. Only a bad headwind for the final 1k.
I was surprised to find I could still manage a sprint finish for a 10k, and delighted to come in at 59:59 (can’t get much closer to just under the hour than that!) My Garmin says it wasn’t 10k, but I’m taking it! 😂😂
So we now both own our first ever bits of bling! Rather pretty metal medals. Think we need a couple of wall hooks to start our collections. Am already realising how bling could get addictive...🏅🏅😍😍😂😂

Thanks Steve! Kind of surprising to realise neither of us has ever had a medal that goes round your neck before of any sort by our age! (Sadly they didn’t do them for the egg and spoon race at infant school!!😂😂)
Excellent time for you 'mountaindreamer' 😀 🏃, well done, I was a spectator at our local annual 10k run this morning, the winning time was 32m45s, however, just before the hour several runners were sprinting🏃 up the home stretch to complete their run to beat the hour,😊 felt sorry for the guy who was 1 hour and 1 second. 🤔😢
Thanks - I’m still not sure it is a true 10k, so will just see the sub hour time as a fairly arbitrary personal goal! 😃❤️ I thought I’d gone over too, but then realised my true “chip” time I had was lower than my “gun” time (ie allowing for how long it took me to get to the start line after the start, as I didn’t start at the front.)
Haha...not really, he’s only 5’8” - he just looks tall next to my 5’3” 😂❤️ Hmm, looking at the photo there looks quite a big difference, though, so perhaps I’ve shrunk. 🤔
Well done! Not only did you get your first bit of bling on a 10k, you cracked the 60 minute mark! Nice!!! Display those medals with pride, and make room for more, it is definitely addicting!
Thanks - yes, we’re loving the medals. Planning another 10k race together in October...🏅🏅😍😍 I’m not sure I’ll see this one as truly cracking 60 minutes yet, as my Garmin did declare it short.

Thanks Eileen! 😃❤️ No T-shirt, but it was only a £12 entry fee, so I was impressed with the medal quality for that. It was called a fun run, and a much smaller event than the next 10k race we hope to try. Not really any bigger than our 400-500 people Parkruns - that made it a bit less daunting.
You did it MD and what a time. If it was a 10km race, you can be sure it was 10km. So well done 👍 that’s great to gave another race lined up. Hope you managed to have a shower afterwards in your new bathroom ?
Thanks Paula! 😊❤️ Yes, we both had showers at home afterwards this week! (We also had a cold rain one just before the start! 😂 I nearly decided to take my waterproof jacket.)
Well done both of you! My nan lived in Hoylake, I have fond childhood memories of time spent on red rocks and Thurseston (hope that’s right!) and swimming at the leisure centre at West Kirby. Not been there in about 20 years but my sister and I plan to take a weekend there at some point. Beautiful part of the country 😊
Well done you two! 😁 I also did my first race yesterday, the Rother Valley 10k, it was very hilly so tough but so elated to finish! I am very proud of my bling too! Well done us! 😁
I really didn’t feel super speedy. I tend to gradually get slower the longer I run, so a lot of experienced runners who go at a steady pace overtake me over time. Over a 10k distance, that feels like far more people going passed me than at a 5k Parkrun! 🙁
