10k Done and Dusted. What next?

On Saturday I completed a 10k race.

Having done a 5k in 29 minutes in March, I had break of a few months from running then started a 10 week programme of training, culminating in taking part in a 10k race.

Ran a time of 56.36 - which I am quite pleased with.

Came 352nd out of 749 runners: n my age group - 60 plus - I was 7th out of 21 runners (four of those ahead of me were Club runners).

Got the shirt and the medal.

Question is - what next?

And do I need some new shoes?

My shoes are now over 11 years old and looking a bit threadbare - but I feel some loyalty to them, having carried me this far!

Half marathon 😊

Might be nice to get some new shoes, I reckon you deserve them! They won't have quite the ventilation properties of the old ones, though...

Shoes are ok, but may want to cut that scratchy toenail :P

What's next surely is whatever you feel like. If you enjoy the challenge of endurance running go do a marathon or more, if you like the company of others then join a club. You clearly are an ok runner if you can do a sub 1hr 10k so should be able to tackle further or faster if you desire.

Your feet are so going to love you when you get your new pair of running shoes. 🏃‍♂️👟❤️👣

Well done on the 10k - I’ll leave everyone else to give advice as I haven’t got there yet! 😂

Well done! Great 10K time! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😃😃😃

Really think you need new running shoes after 11 years, though! You should definitely notice the improved shock absorption! 😂❤️

Thank you for all the comments and advice.

Having reflected on what has been said I have decided:

1. To cut my nails (again)

2. To look at getting some new shoes (though it breaks my heart to part with the shoes that have been my partner in crime so far)

3. To think about a half-marathon, but worried that I might find it a bit boring running such a long way will also look at improving my 10k times.

Thanks everyone!

You can always use your old shoes for gardening!

Good idea but I already have sturdy safety shoes with soles suitable for digging for my gardening activities.

Might just retire the old shoes gracefully.
