Shingly run report

Well I was feeling a bit rubbish last week and had a lot of pain in my left arm but put it down to giving blood at the end of July and the general heat. On Sunday i really struggled round my 9km route at a significantly slower pace than usual and was tired for the rest of the day. Went to the pool on Monday but found I just couldn't be bothered so only stayed 30mins and put more soreness in my arm down to "something in the pool water".

Turns out, that is what shingles feels / looks like before you get a rash! Rash appeared on Thursday and doctor put me straight on anti-virals. Went for a nice relaxed 5k to try to bring out a bit more rash (hurts less) and went out for a leisurely 6km this morning. Randomly my first three and final kms today were the fastest I've ever been!! (Let's not mention the fourth and fifth.)

Having to run in a burkha cos the rash has to be covered (looks gross and is the contagious bit of me). Was far too hot for long sleeves. Now feeling the waves of fatigue again but at least more rash seems to be appearing... sooo bored of being ill already, apparently this might last a month!! At least i can still run! 😂

Sorry you’re poorly, Sweatyfaced. 😔❤️

Not sure if this is any help or not, as I’ve not had shingles, and my Mum didn’t run, but when my Mum had the shingles rash on one arm she used to wear soft 100% cotton longsleeved pull-on tops. (I think hers were from M&S.) She said she found the soft cotton less irritating on her annoyed skin. (Even in the winter she then only wore sleeveless fleeces etc over these, finding anything heavier too uncomfortable.)

Hope you find what works best for you, and that it doesn’t go on for too long. ❤️

Thanks! I like the phrase "annoyed skin"; my skin really does feel annoyed!! 😁

Oooch sweatyfaced, I've heard shingles is painful. I do hope you are feeling better soon and it doesn't drag on for too long.

It is properly painful - I don't recommend it as a pastime to anyone... more and more rash is appearing, i don't know where it will spring up next. Too fatigued to run today... don't think this counts as the IC though...??

No, just rest up though until you feel better
