New to the Bridge! 😬

After quite a bit of thinking and quite a lot of fear, I’ve decided to come aboard the Bridge to get a feel for it and see if it’s something that I feel I can do.

I’m not yet running 5k, 3 times a week, so the jury is definetly out. But progress is progress and I’m definetly doing that. Here goes!! 🤞🏽❤️

Fantastic & Fabulous 😍😍

You don’t need to run 5K x 3 - the plan is 1 x short, 1 x med, 1 x long run per week.

Each week the distance (not time) gets further.

I did a 7k in the week and it took 58 mins - I really slowed down to make sure I could cover the distance.

Hope you decide to stay on the bridge! ❤️❤️ Good luck ❤️

Hello 👋😃

Have you thought about stepping stones podcasts

Also in here you can watch the Ju-Ju film weekly film clips about the 10 us the Magic Number programme

theoldfellow profile image
theoldfellow in reply to misswobble

Be warned though, the stepping stone podcasts have some of the most revolting 'turn-off' musak on them. And they start at ridiculously high 150 spm pace. I have tried three times to use them, and each time turned them off in frustration.

I'm pleased they work for some people. But they don't work for me.

I suggest you just hang here for a bit, Fab, and see what takes your eye (legs)....

Mmmm I love my music theoldfellow! So, I’m going to hang out with you guys for a bit of help along the way! The 8 week plan sounds good. Still trying to find the right pinned post to join the next one, but thank you!! ❤️

There speaks someone who didn't come through the crucible that is the podcast presentation of NHS Couch to 5K. The mistake people make is to think that there is some kind of necessary equivalence between 'music for pleasure' and 'music for running' An unexpected bonus for me of doing C25K and the C25K+ is that it gave me an appreciation for the music my son produces (still waiting for the promised compilation though!) Would I listen to it when lolling around on the couch - no way. Do I typically want an accompaniment to my running these days - not usually. Is this sort of music useful if I am wanting to work on a specific aspect of my running - yes.

Some people complain that the bpm is too *slow* for them!

theoldfellow profile image
theoldfellow in reply to GoogleMe

Too true. I tried the podcasts and ... yuk! The app was fine though (no music). Which is why I'm here. Each to their own....

Fabulous450Graduate10 in reply to misswobble

Hi MissWobble I tried to look for the podcasts on ITunes, then got them on download from someone who has shared them. I’m a little confused with all the options at the moment! 😬, so I think I’ll try the next round of JuJu’s 8 week plan. I think that starts next week. ❤️

Yay! Glad you came over :) I'm not running 5k 3x a week yet either, but I've been on here a couple of weeks and everyone seems to be as nice as on C25k, so don't worry.

Echoing the comments about not needing to do 3x5k. I went graduate, reach 5k, 2x4k + a 5k, 2x5k + a 4k, ju-ju-‘s plan. Just done the 8k for the first time and was ready for it.

You’ll be fab.

For me the right moment was when I was comfortable doing a 5k. Take it at your pace and you’ll fly.

UpTheStanley profile image
UpTheStanleyGraduate10 in reply to Fabulous450

Jay's got the key point there. While 5 is a struggle, there's not a lot to be gained from struggling for another 500m. But when you finish a 5 feeling good (or at least not too bad :-) ), maybe that's the moment to go a bit further.

Fabulous450 profile image
Fabulous450Graduate10 in reply to UpTheStanley

Thanks very much! Everyone has been incredibly helpful. I really appreciate it.

I’m back home now and have decided that I’m not going to try JuJus plan just yet, but I’m going to try to build up to regular 5k’s and then see what’s next. ❤️

😉👍

Welcome - everyone's very supportive on here. After graduating C25K I pootled around for a bit just running 3x a week. I then used the C25K + podcasts that misswobble mentioned, which helped with my pace and stamina and then I just started running longer distances in my weekend runs (though not strictly following Ju's plan) and now run 10k happily (though not very fast!). It's your journey - run what makes you happy.

Hi Fab, I see it didn’t take you long to be tempted back in after your hols 😀 I didn’t do 5k 3 times a week in consolidation - just plodded about for a couple of weeks having fun. Starting week 3 of ju-ju-'s plan this morning. It's good fun because each week you can mix up the 3 runs in any order you like, so it’s less rigid than C25K, and there's a 5k in every week of the programme which you can do at parkrun.

Good luck wherever you decide to take it 😀

If you go into pinned posts and tap on ju ju’s name and scroll through her posts you eventually get to a 10 K programme written in felt pen 😀 I wasn’t sure what to do after that either xxx

I got very confused at all the options and it took me a while to realise a farlek wasn’t a bowel condition 😀 at the moment Im just focusing on recovering from injury then I hope to start the 10K programme... have fun 😘

Fabulous450 profile image
Fabulous450Graduate10 in reply to amanda2463

🤣🤣🤣! When I first saw that word, I thought it was some sort of polite swearing!! I see now that there’s some running terminology to learn, but the programme is still something that I choose really! Got there in the end!! 🤣🤣❤️

Welcome Fabulous 😊 this is a fantastic forum, lovely people and very supportive. You could do what many of us did and just keep doing your 30 minute runs till you feel ready to increase your distance a little at a time, and then think of doing ju-ju- ’s 10 is the magic number plan, which is really nice, or another 10k plan. Just take your time and move on when you feel ready. We will all be here to cheer you on x

Hello 👋 Been lurking on here for a while. After graduation I spent a few weeks getting comfortable with 5k. Like Jay66UK I wanted to be comfortable with that distance which I hadn't achieved during C25k before moving on. Just finished wk3 of Juju's plan 🏃‍♀️
