Fun Fun ParkRun (with cheeky PB)

Evening fellow running bugs!

I should have posted this hours ago, but, well, I didn't :P

As I was working yesterday, and am still trying to leave a day between runs, I thought I may as well do the Marple Parkrun as my run for the day. So off I toddled this morning, and arrived nice and early, which gave plenty of time for warmup walking and running and then a few stretches pre-run.

Despite my best intentions, I still set off too fast somehow, even though I was running to a fixed-tempo track of some sort, and sure enough at about 3k I was running out of steam, as per usual for me!

So - I did the sensible thing for once, and dropped the pace for a few minutes, and I think it worked. Still didn't make the holy grail of 30 minutes, but my official parkrun time was 32:40, not quite a PB for a 5K, but definitely a PB for the parkrun. I'm happy with that :)

So there we go. Another 5k in the bank of runs. It's all part of the plan! Not quite sure what the plan is, but it's definitely part of it :P

Run safe folks, and have fun!

Neil

Well done Neil. A solid run.

Thanks Richard :) It felt more solid than the last parkrun anyway. I still misjudged my pace, but I did a better job of it than last time round, so I'm happy with that.

Well done Neil! I completed my first ever Parkrun today and posted after the results were in. I think that I have finally stopped buzzing! It was such different experience. How many Parkruns have you clocked up?

Well done, sounds like a good run. I'm with you about the elusive 30 mins, my time today was almost exactly the same as yours! 😉

Looks like it was a glorious day for it, Neil! So proud of you, doing park runs! I still have doubts about how I’d fare running with lots of other folks...

I think that’s an excellent time for a park run, you should be proud. Glad you are listening to your body too, and slowing it down to regain energy (I do this ALL the time.)

Enjoy your rest day, buddy. xxx

Thanks Sadie, I have to say I don't especially enjoy being with lots of other people like that, and the way I get through it, drawing on my vast experience of two whole parkruns, is by sticking my headphones in and ignoring everybody else! If I want, I can turn up, not speak to a soul, and head back, though it is nice to chat to other runners beforehand and pick up tips and encouragement.

The slowing down thing really does work, and I'm starting to use it more and more myself. More wise advice from you there Sadie :)

Hi Neil

I was a bit behind you at 35.50

After a long run and a long walk during the week which left my legs tired all day Friday, I took it steady so was pleased to be under 36 minutes.

I just zoomed in to look at the photo - I am not entirely sure but I may well be there, in the distance :)

Hi Sue, that’s amazing, I wish I’d known you were there, would have been nice to have some moral support!! I’ll let you know when I’m next brave enough to give it a try :)

We are there most weeks. Not this Saturday though, we are going to Conkers again. That is where I did my 1st parkrun. And my 25th. This will be my 70th.

I will be unlikely to knock another 6 minutes off my time again like I did last year though. But the first time was just one week after finishing C25K.
