The best run yet. By far.

That was a run I’ll never forget. Started at the base of the down and headed up the rather intimidating incline. Remembered misswobble’s words and walked it as I was out of breath after about 10 metres.

Finally made it to the top, which is the highest point in the Gower apparently, and felt good so took a photo or two and trotted off across the top. The views were just spectacular and the smell of the sea, even at this height, was thick in the air. Lovely jubbly. Found the descent far too tricky to run so took it very easy. Ran through the camp site and into the dunes.

Oh my god how hard is running through thick sand! Stopped for a chill and a walk. Made it out to the beach and my garmin told me I’d only done 4.6k so headed right towards Burry Holms instead. Wind was right in my face and the sea spray helped keep me cool.

Stopped for a quick stretch off and photo there and then headed back towards Rhossili. I must admit it looked tiny in the distance but I felt good. Picked up the pace at this point as the sand was just flat and perfect for running on. Ran on past the carcass of the Helvetia shipwreck from 1887 and headed for the cliff.

I knew I was getting close to 10K but when I got there my garmin showed 9.6 so rather than stop there I turned back and did another 400 metres towards the bottom of the steps leading back up to Rhossili.

Got to the top to find my very patient sister waiting for me with her lovely dog Saffy. So we posed for a few more photos before heading back to Mumbles. I reckon I’m gonna be sore tomorrow but to be honest I don’t really care. I loved every minute of it and can’t wait to do it again. Just not yet 😃

Wow looks like an amazing run and a fab time too what with all the uphill, rough terrain and sand. Bet you feel amazing!

Thank you Deb! Time isn’t entirely accurate as I paused the garmin when I was taking photos. I really, really really dislike running in sand. Never mind the bit where it gets in your shoes, it is so energy sapping.

It always looks so tempting though doesn't it?

So true! And the sea too! Was so tempted to just run along the beach with my toes in the water. But I didn’t want to ruin my running shoes. 😂 How sad is that!?!! 😂😂

Thanks Mike, time isn’t accurate as I paused the garmin when taking photos and that gave me enough time to recover too! 😀

Love it.

I lived in Swansea in the early 1990s and my partner at the time was an Environmental Biology student who did a plant study just off the beach area where you ran. A beautiful place.

So glad it was everything (and more!) that you hoped for. Stunning views, I am so jealous. And look at your pace! You are super speedy! 👏👏👏

Thank you Sadie. 😊 It really was so much more than I hoped for and then some. Pace isn’t accurate as I paused the garmin for photos. Not that speedy after all. 😂
