Tomorrow will be my 50th ever run

I had miscounted and thought this had happened some time ago.

Tomorrow’s 3k is run 2 of week 2 of ju-ju-‘s plan to 10k. It is also my 50th run.

I started on the day the clocks changed, Sunday 25th March, exactly 4 months ago today.

When I’ve run tomorrow that will be 50 runs in 124 days, averaging one run every 2.48 days (including a week on the IC with a back strain).

For a fat lad who had done nothing for decades before, that’s quite a change!

Thanks for all of your support, guys

That’s an amazing change Jay and I think you are probably not such a fat lad any more. I think there should be posters about c25k in every doctor’s waiting room with stories like this. Who’d a thought you could start running at 60 like me (or even later). I was seeing a consultant about my dodgy knees last year and now I don’t seem to have a problem. What a programme and well done you for sticking with it. 10k Isn’t far away.

Great stuff Jay, it is utterly amazing isn’t it 😀🏃🏼‍♂️👏👏👏

Just checked my own stats - they are near-identical... 46 runs since stepping on that treadmill for the first time on 15th April, 101 days ago... a run every 2.2 days 😳

And like you I’ve shed some serious weight too - currently a whisker under a stone lost since that day in April 😀

I started keeping track from W9 and had done 8x3 before that.

Just stubborn and insensible 😁 Wait! No! I looked at the wrong thing. I've done 70! Aw, I missed my half century run :( (stubborn and insensible still stands though)

Fan-bloody-tastic Jay!! What an inspiration!! I’ve been logging my runs since week 8, but as I’ve only just graduated, I’ve got a way to go yet, lol. Personally, I think this programme is amazing. Well done 😃

Wow 50 runs that’s excellent ... now I’m gonna to have to try and work mine out ... I expect yours is on a spread sheet I wish I was that organised I will now spend the rest of the evening going from Strava to runkeeper to zombies run and still probably get it wrong 😊

Jay66UK profile image
Jay66UKGraduate10 in reply to Bridget007

Yup. Spreadsheet from W9 onwards.

I’m jealous! Mine’s so hit and miss I can’t even work it out! 🙄

Dexy5 profile image
Dexy5Graduate10 in reply to Bridget007

I know I was one run ahead of you on wk 7 Bridget. But it would involve getting the calendar out and working out reduced runs for IC post grad and additional runs before I fell off my bike and had to give up my 1st attempt at c25k. I didn’t join the forum until week 7 and didn’t download Strava until after post grad. Shall we agree that life is too short to work it out and just say we’ve done lots. 😂🤣

Bridget007 profile image
Bridget007 in reply to Dexy5

I think that’s best as I haven’t got a clue 🤣🤣🤣

That’s fab! I’ve done a spreadsheet 😜 but it’s nice to see yours and what you were doing at 36 runs in - feel a bit more on track now! Great how quickly you have upped pace 🏃🏻‍♂️💨

You continue to amaze every day Jay, getting stronger, fitter and healthier taking each new challenge after busting the old challenge.

Forever your mantra now: Feel the fear and do it anyway!!!

Happy 50th run!!! Make it count 😘

That’s amazing Jay! I haven’t kept count but I don’t think I’m there yet. You just keep going and keep going. I can imagine you running marathons eventually! 😀😀

Jay66UK profile image
Jay66UKGraduate10 in reply to _SimonT_

Ambitious given that my longest run to date is 5.5k!!

I do like the idea of being fit enough for that but I think I’d prefer to reach the point where I could comfortably run 4 and 5ks every day through the week and a 10k+ on a Saturday.

I don’t know how long you need to be running before you are ready to drop the rest days.

_SimonT_ profile image
_SimonT_ in reply to Jay66UK

Well I’m pretty sure I remember iannodatruffe posting that 6 months was the minimum time before doing consecutive days running.

You are well on your way to 10k! 😎😎😎

mrrun profile image
mrrunGraduate10 in reply to Jay66UK

Errrm... Please do run a bit longer before you start dropping your rest days because that can backfire. You will know when you are comfortable with certain distances, you’ll feel it. I may be more careful than some but l had reached a stage where 10K was comfortable before l tackled HM training - where consecutive running is a must. Even then l was extra cautious but, thankfully, the legs were fine by then. You’ll get there if you want it, but do not rush. ;)

Jay66UK profile image
Jay66UKGraduate10 in reply to mrrun

A HM isn’t on the cards for me. I’m nowhere near generally fit enough for that.

mrrun profile image
mrrunGraduate10 in reply to Jay66UK

Apologies, wasn’t clear enough! I wanted to say that l only started to run on consecutive days when l reached that physical level. I got injured badly when l attempted it before the body was ready, but we are all different and l only speak for myself. All the best!

Jay66UK profile image
Jay66UKGraduate10 in reply to mrrun

Thanks, mrrun. I am a way off of daily runs. I just quite look forward to it.

Tasha99 profile image
Tasha99Graduate10 in reply to Jay66UK

I’m dropping a rest day now but only to do a little 2k and to see if I’m ok with that. I graduated in April so August will be my 6 month since starting. I’ll see how it goes.

Hi Jay, I'm not far behind you. I'm currently on 47 runs with one more run due this week at Parkrun on Saturday, so I'll pass the 50 milestone next week if all goes to plan.
