With our resident running coach at work out of action for a week or two, I decided not to go running by myself yesterday lunchtime and waited for things to cool off in the evening. I put on my new day-glo running top (the first item I have bought that isn't black) and set off just before 9pm, just as the sun dropped below the horizon.
All felt good as I headed out, no sun beating down on me and enough breeze to keep things a bit cooler. 3km in and it was feeling easy, no earphones (I've discovered I prefer running without the noise in my ears), the sunset glowing orange, birds singing in the trees, and then the breeze dropped completely. Yuck! It suddenly felt like running in an oven. Any idea of running 10k disappeared very quickly.
Still, I completed my local 7k route which I haven't run for almost 4 months in record time and got a couple of PBs on some Strava segments. I got home and did my stretches outside, feeling like I was melting as the sweat was literally running off my head onto my top. As usual, all the negatives disappeared within 10 minutes. A quick shower, a bottle of cider and a nice relax before bedtime, enjoying that wonderful post run feeling that we all know
Nice grafting, I managed to find some shade last night when I went out at 8pm. That helped a lot, is there no woods or parks you can use to give you a bit of relief?
I have to go out tonight and do 11-12k and certainly not looking forward to that But I will go...
There are woods, and to be honest I originally intended to go that way and run in the park, but for some reason my shoes turned left and headed out on the lap of Flitwick route.
Phew, when the breeze drops it makes such a difference! But that perfect feeling afterwards makes it all worthwhile...nice run Mike 🏃♂️👍🏻 I love relive
I was out yesterday tea time and it averaged 27.2 degrees. Sweat dropping off my hair all over my neck shoulders and arms 😤. I did a slow 8k on the trail. It’s ok as long as you don’t try to push things 😃
It's easier running alone in the heat. When we go from work there's a feeling that I need to keep up with the coach. Silly really as he's been a county champion and I only completed c25k in January.
That’s an impressive pace Mike. You must be very pleased with that. I’m running the South Downs later today so I hope it cools down and the breeze is there from the coast.
Thanks Brian. It felt a bit slow after running 6.2k last Friday at 4:41/km, but I was happy with the pace considering the heat AND the fact I'd had a big stir-fry about 3 hours prior to running!
As I ran slowly along the country lane yesterday afternoon, listening to Somewhere over the Rainbow by Eva Cassidy, with the sun on my back, I thought I could die happy 🙂
It was lovely, and it was all I wanted? Running is very simple isn’t it 👍💕
nah I bet you didnt, old and knackered is the new black anyway... I just had to take a pic ( in the loo at work) for my new passport and I dont think I have ever seen such an old knackered pic of me. And then it got rejected!!!!
Its the onlly place with a white wall that I could find without PEOPLE!! I am going on an expedition at lunchtime to locate a good position and I may even have to ask someone!!
