First Run with a Human Being

So down in Wales and out for a run with my sister this morning. Weird feeling to be running with another human being, but I coped 😄🏃🏼‍♀️🏃🏼‍♂️

She is currently in training for a half marathon and has a couple of 10k’s lined up in the next 6 weeks or so, the second of which is the one I’ll be doing. However, with my other (superfit) sister not around this weekend, it was just the two of us and in fact we discovered today that her “happy pace” is very slightly slower than mine. So the end result for me is that this run turned out to be a nice relaxed 10k in the early morning sunshine.

Lovely route with a mix of roads, trails, woodlands, sea views and a countryside park.

Great to get another 10k under the belt and definitely felt easier than either of the other two.

Then the big surprise at the end - whereas I normally have a 5-minute cooldown walk, we had a 90-minute hike back to our start point. So that’s my steps target tripled for the day!

Anyway, it was a lovely way to start the day - we are off (another walk!) to the pub for lunch shortly🥂😎

Oh my god. I would have cried to have had a 90 minute hike at the end of a 10km. So nice to run with your sister. Well done.

Brilliant! I know how much you've been looking forward to this run Hoagy, so I'm super-pleased it went well.

You can totally see the family resemblance. Great pic! 😊

Thanks Sharon, and yes it was a lovely day - albeit a tiring one - 22km in total, including the run, the walk back, and the subsequent walk to and from the pub! My phone told me I quadrupled my step goal for the day😳 😀

You'll get a text just shortly asking your security question in case your phone's been stolen!! 😆 Jokes aside, have you changed your step goal since starting running? I'm not sure if it's time for me yet as I'm still quite sedentary at work. 👩‍💻

I have, although as it’s the Apple version the goal figure is actually calorie-based rather than steps. It’s now set to 600, which seems to equate to walking circa 12,000 steps, not as many if running.

I typically easily beat that goal if I run or play golf, but don’t make it on those few days a month where I do neither.

I used to have a rule that I always had to make my steps target, but have eased that off now so that I can get some true rest days, like tomorrow will be. I think with all this running, that’s reasonable 😀

What are you doing with your steps goal atm?

Mine is low as I don't walk anywhere near enough when I'm not running. Don't take a lunch break as such and only walk to the copier and back during the day. During term time I'm also sitting at Uni studying until 9pm, having left work at 4pm to get there. So yeah, my steps are a mess. Don't know what to do really?

I know I should go out at lunch but I'm generally in heels in the office, so it'd need a change of footwear and possibly clothes.

This is one of the main reasons I need an organised fitness plan.

Wearing heels in the office really takes it toll on me too. As well as the looks and sniggering...

Yeah that’s tricky - of course I have a bit of an “unfair advantage” with this stuff. Being retired means I can pretty much run (or walk) any time of any day I choose 😀
